In short
Kashta phala is a planet's malefic tendency on a 0-60 scale: BPHS Ch. 28 finds it by subtracting the planet's Ishta phala from 60. A high Kashta phala means the text reads that planet's results as leaning difficult, not that the planet is weak. This app reports it for the seven grahas beside Shad Bala.
What the term means
Kashta phala (BPHS writes Kasht Phala) means "difficult result". It is the remainder after a planet's Ishta phala is taken from 60, so the two always total 60 and one cannot be read without the other. A planet with a high Kashta phala is one whose results the text reads as leaning difficult; how strong the planet is, is a separate question answered by Shadbala.
Where the term comes from
BPHS Ch. 28 Sl. 6 computes the Isht Phala from two rays and then says to "Reduce Isht Phala from 60" to obtain the Kasht Phala. The chapter uses the same 60-point frame elsewhere: Sl. 7-10 grade dignities into benefic points, with 60 minus them as malefic points, and Sl. 11-12 subtract any strength's auspicious share from 60 to find its inauspicious share. Where the inauspicious share predominates, BPHS reads the planet's Dasha and houses as inauspicious.
How this app computes it
- The engine computes Ishta phala from the exaltation and motional rays (BPHS Ch. 28 Sl. 2-6) and reports Kashta phala as 60 minus it, to two decimals.
- If a motional arc cannot be computed for a planet, both figures are left empty rather than guessed.
- The Sl. 5 auspicious and inauspicious rays and the Sl. 7-10 dignity points are not computed, and Kashta phala does not change the twenty-point Shad Bala score or any other reading.
- It appears in the Shad Bala calculator and the Kundali reading.
A small illustration
For 19 January 1985, 11:14 IST, New Delhi, Jupiter sits close to its deep debilitation point in Capricorn and has an Ishta phala of 0.56, so its Kashta phala is 59.44, near the top of the scale. Venus has an Ishta of 42.81 and a Kashta of 17.19. The engine reports these figures; it does not predict hardship from them.

What it needs
Date, time and place
That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
