In short
The Muntha is a point used in the Varshaphal, the annual chart. It starts in the natal Ascendant sign and moves forward one sign for every completed year of life, and the house it falls in within that year's chart names the area the year is pointed at. This app computes it from the natal Ascendant; the texts in this site's corpus do not mention it.
What the term means
The Muntha is a moving point in the Varshaphal, the annual solar-return chart. It begins in the sign of the natal Ascendant in the birth year and advances exactly one sign with each completed year, so it returns to its starting sign every twelve years. What matters in a given year is the house it occupies in that year's annual chart, which is counted from the annual Ascendant, not the natal one.
Where the term comes from
The Muntha belongs to the Tajika annual-chart technique. The texts in this site's corpus (BPHS, Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras, Daivajna Vallabha and Advanced Predictive Astrology) do not mention it, so nothing here is attributed to them.
How this app computes it
- Sign: the natal Ascendant sign moved forward by the age in completed years, counted around the twelve signs.
- House: that sign counted from the annual chart's Ascendant. The engine also labels the house's group, such as kendra or dusthana, and names the sign's lord.
- The lord of the Muntha sign is the first of the five year-lord (Varshesha) candidates the Varshaphal lists. The app does not pick one of the five as the winner.
- It needs a birth time. Without one there is no natal Ascendant to start from, and the Varshaphal reports that it cannot be cast (see when the birth time is unknown).
A small illustration
The chart of 19 January 1985, 11:14 IST, New Delhi has a Pisces Ascendant. For the 2026 Varshaphal the age is 41, and the engine places the Muntha in Leo. The 2026 annual chart has Virgo rising, so Leo is its 12th house, a dusthana, and the Sun, Leo's lord, is the first year-lord candidate. The engine's own sentence states the same steps.

What it needs
Date, time and place
That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
