In short
A numerology dasha is a planetary period in a 45-year cycle that Advanced Vedic Numerology starts from the Mulank. Each of the nine planets rules for as many years as its number, from Sun for one year to Mars for nine. This app starts a full first period at birth and turns every period on the birthday.
What the term means
The numerology dasha borrows the idea of planetary periods from astrology but times them from a number. The nine planets of numerology run in a fixed order, Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Rahu, Mercury, Venus, Ketu, Saturn, Mars, and each rules for as many years as its number. The cycle totals 45 years, and where you enter it is set by your Mulank.
Where the term comes from
The system is from Advanced Vedic Numerology, whose dasha section lists Mahadasha, Antardasha, Personal Year, Pratyantar Dasha, running age and Gochar. It says the Mahadasha "will be start from Moolank", gives the year counts from Sun 1 to Mars 9, and works the birth date 1/4/1988 as an example. The classical astrology texts do not use it; their dashas run from the Moon's nakshatra.
How this app computes it
- The first lord is the planet at the Mulank's place in the order: Mulank 1 starts with Sun, Mulank 9 with Mars.
- Unlike the Vimshottari dasha, the first period is full length, not a balance. Every change falls on the birthday, as in the book's table.
- Each period is split into antardashas in proportion to the same year counts out of 45, starting from the period's own lord.
- A shorter layer from the Personal Year, the pratyantar dasha, is computed by the engine as a third level.
A small illustration
For the book's date, 1 April 1988, the Mulank is 1. The engine runs Sun from 1 April 1988 to 1 April 1989, Moon to 1991, Jupiter to 1994, Rahu to 1998 and Mercury to 2003, each change on 1 April.
