In short
Ekadhipatya shodhana is the second Ashtakavarga reduction in BPHS. After Trikona shodhana, the two signs owned by the same planet are compared, and their counts are adjusted according to whether a graha occupies either sign; Leo and Cancer, the Sun's and Moon's single signs, are left alone. This app computes it in the full Kundali reading.
What the term means
Ekadhipatya means "having one lord". Five planets own two signs each: Mars owns Aries and Scorpio, Venus Taurus and Libra, Mercury Gemini and Virgo, Jupiter Sagittarius and Pisces, Saturn Capricorn and Aquarius. This reduction compares the two signs of each pair in a planet's Ashtakavarga row, after Trikona shodhana has been applied.
Where the term comes from
BPHS Ch. 68 Sl. 1-5 says the step is done only if both signs of a pair still carry a number after the first reduction. If both signs hold a graha, nothing changes. If neither does, both take the smaller number, or zero if the two are equal. If one holds a graha and the other does not, the empty sign is reduced and the occupied sign kept. Sl. 5 ends: the Sun and Moon "own one" sign only, so their numbers stay unchanged. Sl. 6 sends the reader on to Pinda Sadhana.
How this app computes it
- A pair is skipped unless both signs are non-zero after Trikona shodhana.
- "Occupied" means one of the seven classical grahas sits in the sign in the birth chart; Rahu and Ketu do not count.
- With one sign occupied, the empty sign takes the difference between the two counts (0 if they are equal) and the occupied sign keeps its count. The other cases follow the text as above.
- The reduced rows, and a reduced Sarvashtakavarga, appear in the full Kundali reading; the public calculator stops at the first reduction.
A small illustration
For 19 January 1985, 11:14 IST, New Delhi, the Sun's row after the first reduction holds Aries 4 and Scorpio 5. Saturn occupies Scorpio and nothing occupies Aries, so Aries becomes 5 - 4 = 1. Taurus 6 and Libra 2 hold no classical graha (Rahu in Taurus does not count), so both take the smaller, 2. Capricorn and Aquarius are both occupied and stay as they are.

What it needs
Date, time and place
That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
