In short

A nitya yoga is the "yoga" limb of the panchang: one of 27 named yogas read from the combined longitudes of the Sun and the Moon, from Vishkambha to Vaidhriti. It is unrelated to the planetary yogas found in a birth chart. This app does not compute the panchang yoga; the engine says it has no astronomy for it yet.

What the term means

The panchang describes each day by five limbs, and one of them is called the yoga. This site, following its engine, calls it the nitya yoga, which keeps it apart from the planetary yogas of a birth chart, such as Gaj Kesari, which are combinations of grahas and houses. A panchang yoga is instead a single running quantity built from the Sun and the Moon together, and it takes one of 27 names in a fixed order.

Where the term comes from

Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (Ch. II, pp. 27-29) lists yoga among the five limbs and gives "27 Yogas mentioned for the 27 Nakshatras", from Vishkambha to Vaidhriti, with Vyathipatha 17th and Parigha 19th. Its method adds 3 signs 3°20' to the sum of the Sun's and Moon's longitudes, "because the first Yoga commences with the Nakshatra Pushyami", and reads the yoga from the nakshatra the total falls in; its worked example lands in Swati and names Dhriti. The book calls these simply yogas; the word "nitya" does not appear there. BPHS Ch. 88 Sl. 1-2 names "Vyatipata, Paridha, Vajra" among "inauspicious Yogas" of birth, and Saravali Ch. 35 Sl. 87 names Parigha and Vyatipata beside a Vishti karana. Neither text gives a computing rule.

How this app uses it

This app does not compute the panchang yoga for a birth or for a day. The engine's birth panchang includes the tithi, paksha and vara and leaves out the yoga and the karana on purpose: "this codebase has no astronomy for either yet". The Panchang calculator does not return it, and muhurat scoring does not use it. When the site speaks of a yoga in a chart, it means the planetary combinations that the yogas calculator detects, not this limb.
