In short

A Personal Year 4 is the year your birth day, birth month and the current year reduce to 4; in 2026 every such total passes through 13 on the way. The engine reads it as a foundation year, and the books agree on hard work but disagree on whether the 4 is when results arrive or when they are prepared.

A Personal Year 4 is the fourth step of the nine-year count, after a Personal Year 3 and before a Personal Year 5. It is computed exactly like every other Personal Year, and the 4 has two arithmetic quirks worth knowing: the totals that reach it this year all pass through 13, and none of them passes through 22, the master number that some books treat as a "4 elevated". The full method is on the Personal Year number.

How a Personal Year 4 is calculated

Add your birth day, your birth month and the current year as whole numbers, then take the digit sum until one digit remains. calculatePersonalCycles in the numerology engine does this with master numbers collapsed, reading "today" on your own clock, India time if your browser gives no zone. In 2026, which reduces to 1, a 4 needs a birth day and month reducing to 3. The scratch script counted 42 such birthdays in a 366-day calendar, starting 2 January, 11 January, 20 January, 29 January, 1 February and 10 February.

Every 2026 total lies between 2028 and 2069, and the script found that none of them has a first digit sum above 17. So a 4 this year can only come from a first digit sum of 13, as in 2038 giving 13 and then 4. It cannot come from 22, because 22 is out of reach for totals of this size. The question of whether to keep a master 22 in the personal year, which separates this app from two of the books, does not even arise in 2026.

The 13 deserves a word. In this app 13 is one of four karmic debt numbers, flagged when a Life Path, name total, birth day, Soul Urge or Personality passes through it; the engine comment cites the course notes for exactly those five. The personal year is not on the list, so a 13 on the way to a 4 year raises no flag anywhere in the app.

The Personal Year calculator also shows the Vedic figure from Advanced Vedic Numerology: Mulank plus birth month plus the last two digits of the year plus the weekday number of that year's birthday, birthday to birthday.

Worked example: 7 May 1970, read on 13 October 2026

This is the same birth date the master number 11 page uses, because its Bhagyank is 11. The engine-facts run picked it for this page because its 2026 personal year is a 4. Both are true at once: the fixed number keeps a master, the yearly number does not.

  1. Day 7, month 5, year 2026: 7 + 5 + 2026 = 2038.
  2. Digit sum: 2 + 0 + 3 + 8 = 13. Then 1 + 3 = 4. Personal Year 4.
  3. Personal Month for October: 4 + 10 = 14, then 1 + 4 = 5.
  4. Personal Day for the 13th: 5 + 13 = 18, then 1 + 8 = 9.
  5. Vedic figure: Mulank 7, month 5, year term 26, and 7 May 2026 was a Thursday, worth 3. So 7 + 5 + 26 + 3 = 41, then 4 + 1 = 5. Valid from 7 May 2026 to 7 May 2027.

The calculator would show a 4 and a 5. The engine's line for the calendar figure, from PERSONAL_YEAR_MEANING, is: "A foundation year. Unglamorous work now pays off for years." The neighbouring years for the same date show the steady climb of the calendar method, including the 11 that 2024 passed through on its way to 2.

YearDay + month + yearFirst digit sumPersonal Year
20247 + 5 + 2024 = 2036112
20257 + 5 + 2025 = 2037123
20267 + 5 + 2026 = 2038134
20277 + 5 + 2027 = 2039145
20287 + 5 + 2028 = 204066
20317 + 5 + 2031 = 204399
calculatePersonalCycles() for 1970-05-07, read on 1 July of each year.

Inside the 4 year, this person's personal months run 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 from January to December. June is the month 1 (4 + 6 = 10, then 1) and September the month that repeats the year.

When the Vedic figure is the 4

Advanced Vedic Numerology happens to use a 4 to illustrate what its personal year is for. The Vedic digit picks the first of nine sub-periods, the Pratyantar Dasha, and the book's illustration says a personal year of 4 starts with the 4 period, Rahu, at 32 days. Its printed sequence after that, "4,5,7,8,9,1,2,3", lists only eight numbers and leaves out 6; the engine follows the book's nine-lord order and includes Venus. For a Vedic year of 4 that ran from 1 January 2026 to 1 January 2027 (the 1 January 1970 birth date on the Personal Year 3 page), the engine's pratyantarDasha gave Rahu to 2 February, Mercury to 15 March, Venus to 2 May, Ketu to 28 June, Saturn to 1 September, Mars to 13 November, then the Sun, the Moon and Jupiter, the last ending on 1 January 2027. The Numerology Dasha calculator shows the longer periods these sit inside.

What the books say about a Personal Year 4

  • Numerology Made Easy (William Mykian) calls the 4 a building year, in the sense of detailing plans and developing a framework for future action. Make connections, work hard and save; consolidate and retrench, because activity will soon pick up; expansion is slow but positive. He also calls it a good cycle for firm friendships, family balance and engagement or marriage (p.85). His summary: in a 4 you give form to the idea (p.81).
  • Motivational Numerology (Sally Faubion) gives the highlight as establishing a secure, stable foundation for your goals: weed out what does not belong, fix finances and spending habits, and expect to feel restricted at times (Ch.8, p.133-134).
  • Life With Number Magick (Rrachita Gupta) heads the 4 "Goal Achievement": planning and stabilising, less time for fun, and the period when deliverables and results show up. Without a specific goal, it warns, the year can feel heavy and restricting (p.111). Its keywords are to stabilise finances, buy property and watch your weight (p.113).
  • Advanced Vedic Numerology says that in a 4 you get the fruit of your work.
  • Numerology: Metaphysical Secrets (Erik Tao): business, hard work and future planning (Ch.8).

Where the books disagree

  • Sowing or reaping. Mykian, Faubion and the engine treat the 4 as preparation whose return comes later; Faubion puts the harvest in the 8. Gupta and Advanced Vedic Numerology say the results show in the 4 itself. Same number, opposite ends of the effort.
  • Marriage. Mykian lists engagement or marriage under the 4. Faubion and Gupta place marriage in the 6 instead.
  • The 22. Mykian keeps 22 as a Master Year and calls it the 4 elevated, a year of universal appeal favouring foundations and humanitarian work (p.87). Tao lists Twenty-two separately: service, financial security, charity. Under this app's arithmetic no 2026 total reaches 22, so the question does not arise this year. Master number 22 covers where the app does keep it.
  • Silence. Oliver Tan's Power of Numbers, "Numero"'s The Power of Numbers and the 233-page numerology guide have no personal year; Vedic Numerology Basic gives only the formula.

How often a Personal Year 4 comes up

The scratch script read all 16,802 birth dates from 1 January 1960 to 31 December 2005 on 13 October 2026. 1,932 were in a calendar Personal Year 4 and 1,898 in a Vedic Personal Year 4; 276 were a 4 by both methods. The calendar count is fixed by the day and month alone, so the same birthdays recur every nine years; the Vedic count shifts with the weekday each birthday falls on.

What a Personal Year 4 does not tell you

Whether a 4 year is the labour or the reward depends on which book you read, and the arithmetic cannot decide it. The figure is shared with everyone born on your day and month, ignores your birth year, time and name, and the app's timing check simply labels it mixed. The fixed number 4, which this app links to Rahu, is covered on Number 4 in numerology. To set the yearly number beside your fixed ones, use the Numerology Profile or the Numerology feature.

Can my Personal Year be 22?
Not in this app, which collapses masters in every cycle number. And in 2026 no total can even pass through 22: the largest first digit sum of a 2026 total is 17.
My total passes through 13. Is that a karmic debt?
Not in this app. It checks for 13, 14, 16 and 19 only in the Life Path, the name total, the birth day, the Soul Urge and the Personality, following the course notes. The personal year is not checked.
Why does the calculator show 4 for me and a different Vedic number?
The Vedic method uses the Mulank, two digits of the year and a weekday number, and runs birthday to birthday. For 7 May 1970 it gives 5 against the calendar 4. On 13 October 2026 only 276 of 16,802 dates were a 4 by both methods.
Is a 4 year a year of results or of hard work?
The books split. Gupta and Advanced Vedic Numerology say results show up; Mykian and Faubion describe building and consolidating. The engine's line says the work pays off later. None is a forecast.
