In short

A Personal Year 8 is the year your birth day, birth month and the current year reduce to 8; in 2026 that needs a day and month reducing to 7. The engine calls it a results year, and the books agree it concerns money and effort, but one places the cycle's harvest in the 8 while another places it in the 9.

A Personal Year 8 is the eighth step of the nine-year count, after a Personal Year 7 and before the closing Personal Year 9. It is computed like every other Personal Year, and the books treat it as the year where money and effort come to the front. They differ sharply on whether it is the reward or the run-up to it. The general method is on the Personal Year number.

How a Personal Year 8 is calculated

The engine's calculatePersonalCycles adds the birth day, the birth month and the full current year, then reduces the total by repeated digit sums, collapsing any master number on the way. It reads the current date on your own clock, India time when your browser gives no zone. With 2026 reducing to 1, an 8 this year needs a birth day and month reducing to 7. The scratch script counted 41 such birthdays in a 366-day calendar, starting 6 January, 15 January, 24 January, 5 February, 14 February and 23 February.

The second figure on the Personal Year calculator is the Vedic personal year from Advanced Vedic Numerology: the Mulank, the birth month, the last two digits of the year and the weekday number of that year's birthday, reduced, and valid from one birthday to the next.

Worked example: 9 July 1970, read on 13 October 2026

  1. Calendar method: 9 + 7 + 2026 = 2042. Digit sum 2 + 0 + 4 + 2 = 8. Personal Year 8.
  2. Personal Month for October: 8 + 10 = 18, then 1 + 8 = 9.
  3. Personal Day for the 13th: 9 + 13 = 22, then 2 + 2 = 4. The 22 is a master number in other parts of the app, but a personal day is never left there.
  4. Vedic method: Mulank 9, month 7, year term 26, and 9 July 2026 was a Thursday, worth 3. So 9 + 7 + 26 + 3 = 45, then 4 + 5 = 9. Valid from 9 July 2026 to 9 July 2027.

So the calculator would show an 8 and a 9. The engine's line for the 8, from PERSONAL_YEAR_MEANING, is: "A results year. Money, authority and recognition are in focus." This birth date has a further quirk: its Bhagyank is 33, a total of 9 + 7 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 0 that the engine keeps as a master number 33. The fixed number keeps its master; the yearly and daily numbers, including the 22 on 13 October, do not.

YearDay + month + yearFirst digit sumPersonal Year

20259 + 7 + 2025 = 204177
20269 + 7 + 2026 = 204288
20279 + 7 + 2027 = 204399

20299 + 7 + 2029 = 2045112

The personal months of this 8 year run 9, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1, 2 from January to December: February and November are both months 1 (8 + 2 = 10; 8 + 11 = 19, then 10, then 1). The Vedic 9 that began on 9 July starts its nine Pratyantar periods with Mars, the lord the book assigns to 9; a Vedic 8 would start with Saturn.

The Saturn period inside this person's year

Saturn, the lord of 8, still appears in this person's Vedic year, but last. Run for this page, the engine's pratyantarDasha split the window from 9 July 2026 to 9 July 2027 as follows: Mars to 20 September, the Sun to 28 September, the Moon to 14 October, Jupiter to 7 November, Rahu to 10 December, Mercury to 19 January 2027, Venus to 9 March, Ketu to 5 May, and Saturn from 5 May to the next birthday. On 13 October 2026 the Moon period was running. Each lord keeps its share of the book's 360-day table, stretched to fill the real year. The Numerology Dasha calculator shows the long periods these sit inside, and the numerology dasha entry defines the system.

What the books say about a Personal Year 8

  • Numerology Made Easy (William Mykian): a period when energy, force, power, discipline and good judgment are available; devote the year to planning, organisation and action; opportunities for advancement in business and finance will present themselves. He adds that it is also a cycle of philanthropy, recommending volunteer work for a worthwhile cause, and says you will have more freedom than for a long time (p.86). His summary calls it a business and financial activity year in which hunches and judgment are accurate (p.81). His own worked example of the method, a 21 September birthday, comes out as an 8 (p.83); the Personal Year 7 page shows why the engine gives that birthday a 7 for the last months of the same calendar year.
  • Motivational Numerology (Sally Faubion): you will enjoy the harvest of all the labour of the past seven years. She calls the 8 the most telltale year of the nine, with rewards in direct proportion to how hard you have worked, and the most profit-making and remunerative year of all; career changes, moves, new businesses, partnerships and calculated risks are favoured, and luck, she writes, is in your corner until your next birthday (Ch.8, p.136-137).
  • Life With Number Magick (Rrachita Gupta): "Material Rewards", the money year, when effort goes into multiplying resources and obtaining payoffs, and money transactions go in your favour. It adds a caution to take time to unwind, as overwork may tell on health (p.112); that is the book's reading, not medical advice. Keywords: go out, make money and challenge yourself physically (p.113).
  • Advanced Vedic Numerology: mostly a good period for finance-related matters, in which wishes are completed.
  • Numerology: Metaphysical Secrets (Erik Tao): wisdom, independence, prospering and progress (Ch.8).

Where the books disagree

  • Where the harvest falls. Faubion puts the cycle's reward squarely in the 8. Advanced Vedic Numerology puts it in the 9, saying the 9 brings the result of the previous eight years, and also says the 4 brings the fruit of your work. Gupta's course notes call the 4 the year when results show. The engine's 8 line, "a results year", follows Faubion.
  • Giving. Mykian alone pairs the 8 with philanthropy and volunteering. Faubion, Gupta and Advanced Vedic Numerology are entirely about gain.
  • Partnership. Faubion favours partnerships in an 8 after warning against them in a 7. The other books are silent on partnership in an 8.
  • Planet. None of the five assigns the 8 year a planet. This app ties the number 8 to Saturn in NUMBER_TRAITS.
  • Silence. Oliver Tan's Power of Numbers, "Numero"'s The Power of Numbers and the 233-page guide give no personal year; Vedic Numerology Basic gives only the formula.

How often a Personal Year 8 comes up

The scratch script read all 16,802 birth dates from 1 January 1960 to 31 December 2005 on 13 October 2026. 1,886 were in a calendar Personal Year 8 and 1,840 in a Vedic Personal Year 8; 322 were an 8 by both methods. The app's timing check, which sets numerology beside astrology, labels an 8 favourable, along with 1, 3 and 5.

What a Personal Year 8 does not tell you

The books' promises for an 8 are financial, and that is exactly where a reading of a date sum should be weighed most carefully: the same 8 applies to everyone born on your day and month, in any year, and ignores your circumstances, your birth time and your name. Faubion's own wording makes the reward conditional on prior work. The number 8 in its fixed roles is on Number 8 in numerology. The Numerology Profile shows the year beside your fixed numbers, and the Numerology feature explains how the app uses each.

Is a Personal Year 8 a good year for money?
Faubion, Gupta and Advanced Vedic Numerology all read it that way, and the app's timing check labels it favourable. These are readings of a sum of your birth day, month and the year, shared by everyone with your birthday; the engine predicts no financial outcome.
My personal day today went through 22. Why does it show 4?
Personal days, months and years are always reduced to 1-9 in this app. For 9 July 1970 on 13 October 2026 the personal day is 9 + 13 = 22, then 4.
Why do some books put the harvest in the 9?
Advanced Vedic Numerology describes the 9 as the year you get the result of the previous eight. Faubion puts the harvest in the 8 and treats the 9 as a year of endings. They are different readings of the same nine-year count.
When does my Personal Year 8 end?
The calendar 8 ends at midnight on 31 December on your own clock and becomes a 9. The Vedic figure follows your birthday instead, so it changes on a different date: for 9 July 1970 the Vedic window running in October 2026 is a 9, and it ends on 9 July 2027.
Which birthdays are in an 8 year in 2026?
Those whose day plus month reduces to 7, such as 6, 15 and 24 January and 5, 14 and 23 February. The scratch script counted 41 in a 366-day calendar.
