In short
Graha drishti is the aspect a planet casts from the house it occupies. In this app every graha fully aspects the 7th house from itself, and Mars, Jupiter and Saturn also aspect two further houses each. BPHS Ch. 26 adds graded partial aspects and an arithmetic for their strength, which the engine does not compute.
What the term means
Graha drishti is "the sight of a planet": the aspect a graha casts from where it sits onto other houses. It is one of the two kinds of drishti in BPHS. The other, rashi drishti, belongs to the signs and works by a different rule.
Where the term comes from
BPHS Ch. 26 opens by contrasting the sign aspects of Ch. 8 with "the other kind", between grahas. It counts from the graha: the 3rd and 10th, the 5th and 9th, and the 4th and 8th receive aspects that grow "in slabs of quarters", and the 7th receives a full aspect from every graha. Saturn, Jupiter and Mars are given special aspects on, respectively, the 3rd and 10th, the 5th and 9th, and the 4th and 8th. Sl. 6-12 then set out an arithmetic, the Drishti Kona, that turns the exact longitude difference into an aspect value, with separate adjustments for those three grahas.
How this app uses it
- Whole-sign houses: an aspect falls on a whole house, not on a degree.
- Full aspects only. Every graha aspects the 7th from itself; Mars adds the 4th and 8th, Jupiter the 5th and 9th, Saturn the 3rd and 10th (the special aspects). The quarter, half and three-quarter aspects and the Drishti Kona values are not computed.
- Rahu and Ketu get the 7th aspect only; the engine gives the nodes no special aspects.
- The table needs an Ascendant, so it appears only when a birth time is given.
A small illustration
For 19 January 1985, 11:14 IST, New Delhi, the engine's aspect table has Mars in the 12th aspecting the 6th, 3rd and 7th houses (its 7th, 4th and 8th), Jupiter in the 11th aspecting the 5th, 3rd and 7th (its 7th, 5th and 9th), and Rahu in the 3rd aspecting only the 9th. The 3rd house therefore receives two aspects, from Mars and Jupiter.
