In short
The Lo Shu grid is a three-by-three square, 4 9 2 over 3 5 7 over 8 1 6, in which each cell counts how many times that digit appears in your birth date. Zeros are ignored. This app reads missing and repeated numbers, arrows and planes from it, and adds nothing to it beyond the date's own digits.
What the term means
The Lo Shu grid is a magic square: the digits 1 to 9 set in three rows so that every row, column and diagonal adds to 15. Numerology uses it as a set of nine boxes. Each digit of the birth date is dropped into its box, so a box can hold the same digit several times or stay empty. The result is a count, not a sum: it says which digits the date contains and how often.
Where the term comes from
Numerology Masters Notes, the second AIFAS set, calls it an "ancient Oriental method" (p.130): the digits of the date of birth are placed in a three-by-three grid that shows which energies are present and which are missing. It disregards the zero (p.133) and notes that every line sums to 15 (p.134). Metaphysical Secrets (Ch.5) mentions it only in passing, as the Chinese square its own Pythagoras grid resembles. The Masters Notes also describe the Kua number as a helper inside the grid (p.183); this app keeps the Kua separate.
How this app computes it
- The engine counts each digit 1 to 9 in the unpadded day, month and full year. Zeros are skipped, and nothing else is added: no Mulank, no Bhagyank, no Kua.
- Digits with a count of 0 are the missing numbers; digits with a count of 2 or more are the dominant numbers.
- The same counts feed the arrows of Pythagoras, the Lo Shu planes, and the Sepharial Grid calculator's combinations.
- The display order is always 4 9 2 / 3 5 7 / 8 1 6. The Vedic Grid is a different cast in a different layout: it drops the century and adds the Bhagyank and, for most birth days, the Mulank.
A small illustration
For 11 March 1994 the digits are 1, 1, 3, 1, 9, 9 and 4. The engine fills the 1 box three times, the 9 box twice, and the 3 and 4 boxes once each. The missing numbers are 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8, and the dominant numbers are 1 and 9.
