In short
The Life Path number is the Western name for the total of every digit of your birth date, reduced to one digit unless it lands on 11, 22 or 33. In this app it is not a second calculation: it is the Bhagyank under its other name. It sets the age bands of the pinnacle and challenge cycles and feeds the Maturity, Goal Power and lucky colour readings.
What the term means
The Life Path number is the number of the whole birth date: day, month and year added digit by digit and reduced. The Vedic books call the same total the Bhagyank or destiny number. This app computes it once and shows it under both names, so the two can never disagree.
Where the term comes from
The AIFAS course notes (p.25) describe the Life Path Number as the one "based on your DATE OF BIRTH" and say it can be 1 to 9 or a master number. Their method (p.26) reduces the month, the day and the year separately and then adds the three; their worked date, August 30, 2006, comes to 1. Numerology Made Easy (Ch.5) heads the birth-date number "Destiny, Life Path", Vedic Numerology Basic says the destiny number is also called the life path number, and Metaphysical Secrets (Ch.2) counts it among its six primary numbers. The books differ on the route, part by part or digit by digit, not on the idea.
How this app computes it
- Every digit of the unpadded date is added at once and the total reduced with master numbers 11, 22 and 33 kept. The unreduced total is stored as well.
- The first pinnacle and the first sub-challenge run from birth to 36 minus the Life Path. For that subtraction a master is first reduced, so 11 counts as 2.
- The Name Number calculator adds the Life Path to the Chaldean name number for its Maturity and Goal Power numbers, and the lucky colours calculator reads its colours from the Life Path.
- The compatibility reading compares two people's Life Path numbers against the marriage portraits in Vedic Numerology Basic.
A small illustration
For 30 August 2006 the engine adds 3, 0, 8, 2, 0, 0 and 6 to get 19, then 10, then 1. The course notes reach the same 1 by reducing the parts first. Because a digit sum keeps the remainder after division by nine, the two routes agree on the final digit; they can differ only on whether a master number shows up along the way.
