In short
Bhagyank is the number you get by adding every digit of your full birth date, day, month and year, and reducing the total to one digit, except that 11, 22 and 33 are kept. It is the same number as the Life Path. This app keeps the master number everywhere except in two 1-to-9 lookup tables and the age bands of the pinnacle and challenge cycles.
What the term means
Bhagyank is the destiny number read from the birth date: every digit of the day, the month and the year added together, then reduced. Where the Mulank reads only the day, the Bhagyank reads all of it, so two people born on the same day of different months usually share a Mulank and not a Bhagyank. In this app it is the same number as the Life Path number; the two names are kept because both traditions use them.
Where the term comes from
Advanced Vedic Numerology (p.13) works 22/4/1981 to 27 and then 9, and labels the result "Bhagyank-Destiny Number". On p.18 it defines the Destiny Number as the "total of full birth date" and gives 5/10/1987 as 31, then 4. It reads the Bhagyank as what happens to a person, beside the Mulank as their nature (p.14). Vedic Numerology Basic gives the same sum and says it is also called the life path number.
How this app computes it
- The digits are taken from the unpadded date: 11 March 1994 is read as 1, 1, 3, 1, 9, 9, 4, with no zero added before the 3 (a zero would add nothing to the sum in any case).
- The total is reduced with master numbers kept, so a total of 29 stops at 11.
- The unreduced total is kept too. It is checked for a karmic debt number and, when it falls between 10 and 54, read as a compound number.
- A master Bhagyank is read at its single digit (11 as 2, 22 as 4) in only two places: the 81 Combinations grid and the punch-line table, which the book prints for 1 to 9 alone. The pinnacle and challenge age bands use the reduced digit as well.
A small illustration
The engine gives 11 March 1994 a total of 28, then 10, then 1. For 1 February 1997 the total is 29, which becomes 11 and stays there. For 5 October 1987 it returns 31 and then 4, the same answer the book prints for that date.
