Destiny number defined: on this app's numerology profile it is the whole-name total; in the Vedic books it is the birth-date total, the Bhagyank. How each is computed and how to tell which one a page means.

In short

Destiny number means two different things. On this app's numerology profile it is the total of every letter of your name on the Pythagorean table, reduced with master numbers kept. In the Vedic numerology books, and on the digit pages that quote them, it is the total of the birth date, which this app calls the Bhagyank.

What the term means

"Destiny number" is one name attached to two calculations. In the name block of this app's numerology profile, it is the whole-name number: every letter of the name valued on the Pythagorean table, added, and reduced. In the Vedic books it is the whole-date number, the Bhagyank. A page that says "Destiny number" without saying "name" or "date" can mean either, so it is worth checking which one it computed.

Where the term comes from

Most of the books in this site's library use it for the date. Advanced Vedic Numerology labels the full-date total "Bhagyank-Destiny Number" (p.13) and works 5/10/1987 to 31, then 4 (p.18). Vedic Numerology Basic and the AIFAS course notes (p.16, "Destiny/Conductor No.") file it under the birth date, and Numerology Made Easy gives the date its own chapter, "The Shape of Your Destiny" (Ch.5). For the whole-name sum the same books use other words: Expression in Metaphysical Secrets (Ch.7), Expression or Name Number in the course notes, Purpose in Numerology Made Easy. The name-based use on this app's profile follows the engine's own labelling, not those books.

How this app computes it

  • Name Destiny: the letters A to Z are valued 1 to 9 in alphabet order, summed, and reduced with master numbers kept. The unreduced sum is returned beside it as the compound total.
  • Date destiny: the Bhagyank, every digit of the birth date summed and reduced, also with masters kept.
  • The name version needs a name in Latin letters; without one the profile leaves the whole name block empty.

A small illustration

The rules document's own example, "Aarav Kapoor", sums to 47 on the Pythagorean table; 4 + 7 = 11, which is a master number and is kept, so the name Destiny is 11. A date-based destiny for 5 October 1987, the book's example, comes out of the engine as 31 and then 4. Neither number says anything about the other.

What it needs

Name and birth date

That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
