What the numerology books this app is built on say about number 6, how it reads as a birth number, a destiny number and a year number, where the master number 33 fits, where the books contradict each other, and how to check each one against your own date of birth.

Article text is currently English only. The calculation below and the rest of the interface follow your chosen language.

Number 6 is the number of Venus in every numerology book this app draws on, and the words those books keep returning to are home, responsibility, harmony and beauty. But 'being a 6' is not one fact. Your Mulank is 6 if you were born on the 6th, 15th or 24th. Your Bhagyank is 6 if your whole birth date sums to it, and it may be written as 33 instead. You are in a Personal Year 6 for twelve months at a time, whatever your birth numbers are. And the digit 6 may or may not be written in your birth date at all. These are four separate calculations with four separate readings. To see which apply to you, run the Life Path calculator for the two birth numbers and the Personal Year calculator for the year.

What this page is and is not

It reports what named numerology books say and how this app's code applies them. Numerology has no single canon. On number 6 the books agree about its planet and its character more than they do for most numbers, and then disagree sharply about its friends, its colours and what its marriage prospects are. Where they split, both readings are given. Nothing here predicts what will happen to you. Several of these books make blunt claims about marriage and fidelity for a 6; they are reported as each book's line and not endorsed. Anything said about the body is not medical advice, and no remedy from any of these books is repeated here.

Why 6 belongs to Venus

Advanced Vedic Numerology lists 6 for Venus in its Number and Planet connection table, between 5 for Mercury and 7 for Ketu, and Vedic Numerology Basic prints the same line. Erik Tao's Western book agrees: number six, Venus, birthdays 24, 15 and 6, with Venus as the ruler of Libra and Taurus. The 1930s pamphlet The Power of Numbers, signed 'Numero', opens its Chapter VIII by placing Number Six under the guard of Venus, and concludes from it that six people find their strength in peaceful pursuits and not warlike ones. No source in the corpus gives 6 to any other planet. A birth chart reads Venus in similar terms, which the Venus in Vedic astrology page covers.

The Professional Course Notes explain the choice on a slide that treats the numbers as stages of growth. By the sixth stage a person has learned that the greatest growth lies in cooperation: helping others and building partnerships brings abundance, and abundance brings the enjoyment of luxury and of the senses. So a 6 has two halves, duty to other people and comfort, beauty and pleasure, and different books lean on different halves.

The link to astrology ends at the symbol. A numerology 6 is arithmetic on calendar digits. It says nothing about where Venus sits in your chart, how strong it is, or when your Venus Mahadasha runs. A person can have Mulank 6 and a weak natal Venus, or the reverse, and the two systems can point different ways for the same year, which is the subject of when astrology and numerology disagree.

Four ways a 6 can appear in your numbers

The Mulank is the day of the month reduced to one digit, so the 15th and the 24th both become 6. The Bhagyank, or Life Path, sums every digit of the full date. Both are fixed for life, and Advanced Vedic Numerology separates them this way: the Moolank is our nature, the Destiny Number is what happens with us. The Personal Year adds the birth day and month to the current year and changes every year. The grid digit is how often a 6 is written in the date. The first two are explained from first principles in Mulank, Bhagyank and Life Path. One rule from this app's rules document matters more for 6 than for most numbers: the Bhagyank keeps the master numbers 11, 22 and 33 instead of reducing them, and 33 is the one that would otherwise become 6. So a destiny 6 comes in two forms, a plain 6 and a 33, and the section on Bhagyank below treats them separately.

Mulank 6: born on the 6th, 15th or 24th

What the books say about the nature of a 6

Advanced Vedic Numerology describes Moolank 6 in two lists. At its best: loving, caring, healing, protecting, fair, just, responsible, graceful, dutiful, romantic, loyal, honest and nurturing. At its worst: meddling, over-involved, self-sacrificing, intrusive, jealous, self-righteous, anxious, martyr, domineering, controlling and a poor judge of character. The word idealistic appears in the book's keyword list as a quality and again in the worst list as a fault: the care is real, and the cost is not knowing where another person's business begins.

The Indian course material paints the other half of Venus. Vedic Numerology Basic's Venus slide puts attractive, brand conscious, romantic, fond of luxury, born foodie, creative, well groomed and a big friend circle in its positive column, and jealousy, comparison, living for acceptance and people pleasing in its negative one. Life With Number Magick Part 2 says number 6 people enjoy a refined lifestyle, fashion and jewellery, and adds a pointed line: for them the show of affluence matters more than having that amount of money. The same slide says they feel responsible and caring towards family and are skilful in the arts.

The Western books stress peace and service. Numero sums the six people up as peace, happiness, optimism and material well-being, with welcoming homes, a fondness for music and dancing, and a strong leaning towards learning. His criticism: they are not too practical, and contentment lulls them into a false sense of security while rivals move ahead. Tao splits his keywords by tradition: in the Eastern reading 6 stands for abundance and money; in the Western it is compassionate, caring, kind and a caregiver, with emotional guilt as the negative. This app compresses all of it into one line for a 6, titled The Nurturer: 'You carry responsibility for others more than you admit.'

The three birthdays are not read identically

All three dates reduce to 6, but the books let the two-digit number behind the digit colour it. Advanced Vedic Numerology writes a paragraph for each day of the month, and Numerology Made Easy reads each compound total on its own.

Born on theAdvanced Vedic NumerologyThe compound number in Numerology Made Easy
6thPositive, caring, generous and humanitarian; happiest when helping others. Enjoys the responsibilities of marriage and family life. A good mind, strong emotions, and not afraid to show feelings. No compound: the plain 6 of balance, harmony, love, responsibility, teaching and family.
15thUnderstanding and loyal, inclined to be creative, especially in music. Knows when someone needs a shoulder to lean on. Responsible, but likes to keep a degree of independence.15 is the individual (1) acting in a field of freedom and movement (5), called a number of youthfulness. It is read as a magnet for material success and a focal point others are drawn to for help or counsel.
24thCaring, motivated and enthusiastic, with a positive and often dramatic approach to goals that gets a great deal done quickly.24 is partnership (2) on a foundation (4) under the root 6 of family: love of home, with success in people-oriented and family-oriented work. Discipline and focus are named as the keystone.

No karmic debt number reduces to 6

The Professional Course Notes list four Karmic Debt numbers: 13, 14, 16 and 19. This app's reduceWithKarmicDebt function watches for those four on the way down to a single digit. They reduce to 4, 5, 7 and 1. None of them reduces to 6, so neither the 15th nor the 24th raises the flag, and a Life Path that totals 15, 24, 33 or 42 does not either. A person with a 6 can still carry a karmic debt number elsewhere, for instance in a name total. The Name Number calculator runs the check across the birth day, the Life Path total and the name numbers, and says which one raised the flag.

Bhagyank 6 and the master number 33

The Bhagyank adds every digit of the date. A birth on 15 January 2006 gives 1 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 6 = 15, and 1 + 5 = 6: Mulank 6 and Bhagyank 6. A birth on 11 March 1990 gives 24, then 6: Mulank 2, Bhagyank 6. A birth on 24 June 1987 gives 37, which reduces to 1: Mulank 6, Bhagyank 1. A 6 in one position tells you nothing about the other.

Now take 15 August 1990: 1 + 5 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 33. Ordinary reduction would give 6, but this app's calculateCoreNumbers stops at 33 and reports the Bhagyank as 33, because the rules document keeps master numbers on the Life Path. The same happens for 6 March 1986.

What Destiny Number 6 means in the sources

Advanced Vedic Numerology says people with Destiny Number 6 are nurturing, caring and responsible. They accept other people's burdens, become the member of the family the others turn to when things go badly, and can settle problems between people so that everyone is content with the outcome. They are often creative, usually in artistic fields. The entry then says something it says of few other numbers: it is rare to find a Destiny 6 using its skills negatively. The risk it names is inward. Sixes who accept everyone's responsibilities often end up overwhelmed by everyone else's problems.

The Course Notes are less comfortable with the number. Their Destiny slide calls 6 not a very good Destiny Number for people with a strong nurturing spirit, because they stay emotionally attached to other people's affairs and become overburdened with responsibilities and extra chores. Its advice is to stay a little detached. Tao's Destiny reading for Six is service to those who are weaker. Numerology Made Easy names the 6 the Cosmic Parent, a teacher and counsellor whose lesson is the meaning of responsibility and how to balance opposites.

How a 33 is read

The Course Notes call 33 the Master Teacher, the most spiritually inclined number, and say its root number is 6, which is naturally built for compassion and service. Numerology Made Easy reads 33 as a magnified 6, with harmony, love, service, family, teaching and beauty all strengthened, and then adds what the double 3 brings: strong self-expression, high ambition, a public nature and a money number. In this app a Bhagyank of 33 is shown as 33. For the two tables that only have rows for 1 to 9, the 81 Combinations grid and its punch lines, the engine reads 33 at its single digit, 6, and says that it has done so.

Your Mulank and Bhagyank together

Advanced Vedic Numerology rates every Mulank-Bhagyank pair in a table it calls the 81 Combinations, and the 81 Combinations calculator looks your pair up. For a 6 the table is symmetrical: the rating is the same whichever of the two numbers is the 6.

From the EIGHTY_ONE_GRID table in vedicNumerologyEngine.js, transcribed from Advanced Vedic Numerology p.40.

No pair containing a 6 is rated Very Good, and three are rated Bad or worse. The book also attaches punch lines to four of these pairs, and they are the bluntest text on this page: for 6 with 2, 6 with 6 and 6 with 9 it asserts affairs or multiple relationships, and for 3 with 6 a disturbed marriage alongside good professional results. The 6 with 9 line also credits hard work and financial success. No other source in the corpus repeats these assertions, and this app shows them as that book's reading and nothing more.

The digit 6 in your birth-date grid

The grid counts how many times each digit from 1 to 9 is written in your date of birth, a separate question from the Mulank. Someone born on 24 November 1992 has Mulank 6, yet the date is written with 2, 4, 1, 1, 1, 9, 9 and 2: there is no 6 in it. Only the 6th, 16th or 26th, a birth in June, or a year written with a 6 puts the digit there. The Lo Shu Grid calculator shows your counts, and missing numbers in your Lo Shu grid explains what a count is and is not.

Where the 6 sits

In the Lo Shu square as this app displays it (4-9-2 over 3-5-7 over 8-1-6) the 6 is the bottom right corner. It lies on the bottom row 8-1-6, which the app calls the Practical plane, for execution, order and follow-through, and on the right-hand column 2-7-6, the Action plane, for doing and delivering. Life With Number Magick Part 2 gives that corner the north-west, the Metal element, and the theme of mentors, helpful people and friends.

A missing 6

The books read an absent 6 as an absence of what Venus stands for. Advanced Vedic Numerology's list starts with problems in money, family life and marriage and goes on to not getting support at the right time, having to work very hard, hiding feelings from others, and having no love for fine things. The course deck's slide is close: comforts are lacking even when money is there, responsibilities and family ties are taken casually, and feelings are concealed. Those are the books' claims, stated as certainties this app does not endorse; the engine reports only that the digit is absent. The Health Tendencies calculator, built on the same deck, links a missing 6 to the heart, digestion, breathing, and the urinary and reproductive systems as body areas, names no condition, and is not medical advice.

A repeated 6: two readings

This app marks a digit as dominant when it appears twice or more; the 6 March 1986 birth, written with two 6s, is an example. Tao's ladder for the 6 changes character as it climbs: one 6, a good advisor; two, originative; three, high tempered; four, emotional. Advanced Vedic Numerology is harsher. Its entry headed Multiple 6 reads the pattern as an afflicted Venus: ups and downs in finance, possessiveness and weak financial management, along with a claim about multiple affairs.

Lines and shapes that pass through the 6

Advanced Vedic Numerology reads groups of cells that are all present in its grid, and the Vedic Grid calculator checks your date against them. The main ones that include the 6:

CombinationTone in the engineReading from the source
6-7-5 arrowFavourableBusiness-minded; success through trade or investment; a taste for tangible enjoyment of life.
3-6-2 arrowFavourableGood fortune after marriage, success through higher education, an interest in art and music; suited to teaching or counselling.
3-6 conjunctionFavourableGood education and cash flow; can bring conflict between duty and pleasure, and a later marriage.
6-7 conjunctionTestingA lover of music, beauty and luxury with a supportive social circle; the book warns of friction in marriage.
(1,3,6) angularFavourableIntelligent, knowledgeable, good at teaching; growth, with luck improving after marriage.
(6,2,8) angularTestingGood financial standing, with friction in married life and a later marriage.

Further shapes, the 6-2 conjunction, (1,7,6) and the four-cell (1,6,8,5), are stored as testing or mixed. The book also reads three aspects involving the 6: 6-5, and two it calls retro aspects, 6-4 (Venus aspects Rahu) and 6-9 (Mars aspects Venus). An aspect depends on empty cells as well as filled ones: 6-5 needs an empty 7, 6-4 an empty 2 and 8, and 6-9 an empty 3 and 1 (PDF p.119-135), and the calculator checks those conditions itself. So many of these readings turn to marriage because the book is following its planet; that is not evidence about any particular marriage.

Personal Year 6: the one that has dates

Mulank and Bhagyank never change, which makes them hard to test. A Personal Year does change, and it names a period you can check afterwards. Anyone can be in a 6 year, whatever their birth numbers. The full method is in your Personal Year number. This app computes it two ways and shows both.

The Western method

Add the birth day, the birth month and the current calendar year, and reduce to one digit with no master numbers kept. For a birth on 15 August, 2026 gives 15 + 8 + 2026 = 2049, then 2 + 0 + 4 + 9 = 15, then 6: a Personal Year 6 for the whole of 2026, between a 5 year in 2025 and a 7 year in 2027. Master numbers are dropped here, so there is no Personal Year 33 in this app.

The Vedic method

Advanced Vedic Numerology's own formula is Mulank + birth month + the last two digits of the current year + the number of the weekday on which the birthday falls that year, and the period runs birthday to birthday. For the same 15 August birth, the 2025 birthday fell on a Friday, Venus's own day, number 6, so 6 + 8 + 25 + 6 = 45, which reduces to 9. The 2026 birthday falls on a Saturday, Saturn, number 8: 6 + 8 + 26 + 8 = 48, then 12, then 3. So through 2026 the Western method says 6 all year, while the Vedic method says 9 until the birthday and 3 after it. The two calculations will often disagree.

What a 6 year is read as

  • This app's own summary (PERSONAL_YEAR_MEANING): 'A responsibility year. Family, home and commitments take centre stage.'
  • Advanced Vedic Numerology, in its table of Personal Year and running-age effects: the native mostly has to spend time with family and makes time for entertainment; marriage, engagement, family functions, parties and celebration. Elsewhere it lists 6 among the Personal Year or running-age numbers (1, 4, 6, 8 and 9) in which it says marriage mostly happens.
  • The Professional Course Notes head the year Home and Family: appreciation of the people around you, helping others and enjoying it, altering the home or moving house, and making the surroundings balanced and beautiful. The slide calls it a year to get married, or to separate and start afresh.
  • Numerology Made Easy calls it a year of domestic responsibility and also of education and adjustment, and adds two instructions: do not be too personal, because you will be needed in many directions, and finish everything you undertake.
  • Sally Faubion's Motivational Numerology gives the highlight as a positive change in home and family and new friendships and love relations, with the emphasis on being responsible to all of them.

The sources nearly agree: the year turns inward to the household and to people who depend on you. The one real difference is tone. The Vedic book reads it as celebration; the Western books read it as duty, and the Course Notes allow that the change at home may be a separation. At the scale of a single day this app follows the duty reading. On a Personal Day 6 the signed-in Numerology page, described under the numerology feature, gives the theme as responsibility, suggests attending to the person or obligation closest to home, and warns against taking on more than you can carry because it was asked kindly. The falsifiable part is modest: looking back on a 6 year, did home, family and obligations take more of it than in the 5 year before, which the Vedic book gives to restlessness, or the 7 year after, which it gives to introspection?

Number 6 in the numerology dasha

Advanced Vedic Numerology describes a planetary period system of its own, unrelated to the astrological Vimshottari dasha, in which Venus runs for twenty years. Here nine lords run in the fixed order Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Rahu, Mercury, Venus, Ketu, Saturn, Mars, each for as many years as its number: Venus rules 6 years out of a 45-year cycle. The sequence starts at the lord of your Mulank, from the day of birth. The Numerology Dasha calculator builds the timeline.

A worked Mulank 6 timeline

For the 15 August 1990 birth the engine starts with Venus, from birth to 15 August 1996. Ketu follows to 2003, Saturn to 2011, Mars to 2020, the Sun to 2021, the Moon to 2023, Jupiter to 15 August 2026, Rahu to 2030 and Mercury to 2035. Venus then returns from 15 August 2035 to 15 August 2041, at ages 45 to 51.

Sub-periods and favourable ages

Each Mahadasha divides into nine Antardashas in the same order, starting from its own lord, in proportion to the same year numbers. The book's table for the Venus Mahadasha, in years-months-days, runs from Venus 0-9-18 to Mercury 0-8-00 and totals exactly six 360-day years. The engine applies the same proportions to the real calendar span, so its dates can differ from the book's by a few days: in the 1990 period above, Venus's own sub-period runs from 15 August 1990 to 3 June 1991.

The favourable ages for a Mulank 6 are those where its own number recurs in the running age on a nine-year step. The book prints 6, 15, 24, 33, 42, 51, 60, 69 and 78, and the engine returns the same sequence. The Course Notes give the same good years for a Destiny 6: 15, 24, 33, 42, 51 and 60.

Who a 6 is said to get on with

On compatibility the sources are furthest apart. The compatibility feature takes several of these tables as inputs. The public Love Compatibility calculator uses only the app's harmony list: it calls two people's numbers Strong when both the Mulanks and the Bhagyanks harmonise, Workable when one pair does, and Needs effort when neither does.

Numbers 3 and 9 are where the lists collide. The AIFAS table, Numero and the marriage archetypes all name them as the best company for a 6. Advanced Vedic Numerology names both as enemies, and the graha friendship table marks 3 as the single number unfriendly to Venus. Number 8 is the mirror case: a friend in Advanced Vedic Numerology and in this app's harmony list, an enemy in the AIFAS table and in Numero. No list marks 4 against a 6.

Advanced Vedic Numerology then contradicts itself on 3. Its marriage rules say it is good when one partner's Moolank is the anti of the other's, and its Pure Anti Combination table pairs 6 with 3. So by its marriage rule a Mulank 6 and a Mulank 3 are well matched, while by its own compatibility table they are enemies. The other sides of these disputes are on the pages for number 1, number 3, number 8 and number 9; the pairings most lists accept are on number 2, number 4, number 5 and number 7.

Days, colours, letters and professions

This app's favourables bundle for a Mulank 6 is derived from Venus: Friday as the day, white and pastels as colours, south-east as the direction, the evening hours, and design, arts, luxury goods and entertainment as career fields. Favourable numbers are 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8. The favourable initials are F, O and X, the letters valued 6 in the Pythagorean table the engine uses. The Chaldean table behind the Name Number calculator values U, V and W at 6 instead, so the two tables do not share a single letter for this number.

Advanced Vedic Numerology's own table for Moolank 6 is close: favourable days Friday and Saturday, months June and November, numbers 5, 6 and 8, white shades and all shiny colours to favour, yellow to avoid. Its suitable professions are acting, interior decoration, fashion design, beauty and luxury products, and any work that involves beautification. Under professions to avoid, the entry for 6 is all work of 3.

Colours are where the books split. Numero's table, which the Lucky Colours calculator uses and keys to the Life Path number, gives a 6 pink, emerald and silver as best, and yellow, green and rose as worst. Vedic Numerology Basic, for a 6 with a 6, lists green and light blue as lucky and rose, orange and violet as unlucky. So green is among the worst in one book and lucky in another, while yellow is avoided by two books. There is no neutral way to choose between these lists, and this app does not claim one works.

Where else a 6 turns up

  • Hidden number. Advanced Vedic Numerology adds the number of the weekday you were born on and the number of your Sun sign on the book's own table, which runs each sign from the 14th of one month to the 13th of the next. A Friday birth, or a Sun in Taurus or Libra, gives a hidden 6. Check yours with the Hidden and Shadow Numbers calculator.
  • Pinnacles and challenges. A Pinnacle 6 is read in the Course Notes as responsibility, home, duty and community, with satisfaction from teaching, healing and helping. A Life Challenge 6, from Numerology Made Easy, is being overly idealistic about right and wrong and expecting others to conform to your rules. Both come out of the Numerology Profile calculator.

How to check all of this for your own date

  1. Find the two fixed numbers with the Life Path calculator. Note which position the 6 is in, and whether your Bhagyank is shown as 33.
  2. Look the pair up in the 81 Combinations calculator and compare its rating with the table above. If your Bhagyank is 33 the result will say it was read as 6.
  3. Count the digit in the Lo Shu Grid: absent, once, or dominant. Then see which lines through the 6 are complete in the Vedic Grid.
  4. Get both Personal Year figures from the Personal Year calculator and write down the dates each one covers.
  5. Find your Venus period in the Numerology Dasha calculator.
  6. To see everything at once without an account, the free numerology tool takes a date, and optionally a name, and returns the whole profile on one page. How the numbers are produced is set out on the methodology page, and the books on the sources page.

Common misreadings

  • 'I am a 6' without saying which 6. Mulank, Bhagyank, name number and Personal Year are separate calculations, and most people have a 6 in at most one or two of them.
  • Assuming Mulank 6 puts a 6 in the Lo Shu grid. It does only for the 6th. Someone born on the 15th or 24th can have Mulank 6 and a missing 6 at once; in the Vedic Grid, which adds the Mulank, they cannot.
  • Reducing a 33 and forgetting it. A Life Path of 33 is kept as 33 in this app, and two books read it differently from a plain 6. For the Mulank and the Personal Year, no master number is kept.
  • Reading a 6 as a promise about marriage. Venus is the relationship planet in these books, so nearly every 6 entry mentions marriage, some hopefully and some harshly. They contradict each other, and none of them knows anything about the other person.
  • Quoting a compatibility rule as settled. Whether a 6 gets on with a 3, an 8 or a 9 depends on which table you open, and one book disagrees with itself.
  • Expecting the number to describe your Venus. For that you need a birth chart and the Venus in Vedic astrology page, not a digit sum.

Questions people ask about number 6

Which birth dates give Mulank 6?
The 6th, 15th and 24th of any month. The Mulank uses the day only and reduces it to a single digit, so 15 becomes 1 + 5 = 6 and 24 becomes 2 + 4 = 6. There are three such dates, not four, because no month has a 33rd.
Which planet rules number 6?
Venus, in every book this app uses: Advanced Vedic Numerology, Vedic Numerology Basic, the AIFAS course notes, Erik Tao's Western book and the 1930s pamphlet The Power of Numbers. This app follows them. The number does not tell you anything about the Venus in your birth chart.
Is Mulank 6 the same as Life Path 6?
No. Mulank comes from the day of the month alone; Life Path, which this app treats as the same calculation as Bhagyank, sums every digit of the full date. A person born on 24 June 1987 has Mulank 6 and Bhagyank 1; one born on 11 March 1990 has Mulank 2 and Bhagyank 6. See Mulank, Bhagyank and Life Path.
Is 33 the same as 6?
It reduces to 6, but this app keeps a Life Path of 33 as 33, following its rules document. The 81 Combinations table has no row for 33, so there the engine reads it as 6 and tells you so.
What does a Personal Year 6 mean?
Every source reads it as a year centred on home, family and obligations. Advanced Vedic Numerology stresses celebrations and family functions; the Western books stress responsibility and service. None predicts a specific event, and the Western and Vedic methods often give different numbers for the same months.
Who is number 6 compatible with?
The sources contradict each other. Advanced Vedic Numerology gives 4, 5 and 8 as friends and 1, 2, 3 and 9 as enemies. The AIFAS table and Numero give 3 and 9 as friends and 1 and 8 as enemies. Vedic Numerology Basic's graha friendship table gives only 3 as unfriendly. Number 4 is the one no list marks against a 6.
What if 6 is missing from my grid?
Advanced Vedic Numerology and the course deck read a missing 6 as difficulty with family life, comfort and showing feelings, and add harsher claims about marriage and luxuries that this app reports only as the books' words. A missing digit is a count of what is written in your date, nothing more. It is common even among people whose Mulank is 6: anyone born on the 15th or 24th, outside June, in a year written without a 6.
