Venus holds the longest Vimshottari Mahadasha, twenty years. This reference sets out when it arrives, how its nine antardashas are measured, what BPHS Ch. 47 and Ch. 60 and Saravali Ch. 41-42 say about it, where they disagree, and how to check each condition in your own chart.

Venus has the longest Mahadasha in the Vimshottari cycle: twenty of the 120 years, one sixth of the whole. It follows Ketu's seven years and hands over to the Sun's six. Popular astrology calls it the pleasant one, the period of marriage, money and comfort. The classical texts do describe those things, but only for a Venus that passes certain tests, and they describe the opposite for a Venus that fails them. This page sets the tests out with chapter and sloka, and shows how to check each one in your own chart with the Vimshottari Dasha calculator and the birth chart calculator. For the graha itself, start with Venus in Vedic astrology.

What this page is and is not

It reports what three texts say and how this app's code applies one of them. It does not predict what your twenty years will contain. BPHS Ch. 60 attaches ritual remedies and warnings about lifespan to most sub-periods; this app carries neither over, and neither does this page. Classical lines about the body are reported as what the text says and are not medical advice.

Twenty years of 120: the arithmetic

BPHS Ch. 46 Sl. 2-5 lists many dasha systems and calls Vimshottari the most appropriate for the general populace. Sl. 12-14 give the order of lords counted from Krittika: Surya, Candr, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukr. Sl. 15 gives their years: 6, 10, 7, 18, 16, 19, 17, 7 and 20. Venus is last in that list and has the largest number. The general mechanism is explained in what a Mahadasha actually is.

This app keeps the same nine numbers in one table, DASHA_SEQUENCE in astrologyEngine.js, written in the order Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury. It is Parashara's ring started at Ashwini instead of Krittika, which is why Venus sits second in it. The function vimshottariTimeline() takes the Moon's sidereal longitude at birth, finds its nakshatra, uses the nakshatra's index modulo nine to choose the first lord, and subtracts the fraction of the nakshatra the Moon has already crossed. That subtraction is the balance of Dasha at birth of BPHS Ch. 46 Sl. 16. A year in this engine is 365.2425 days, so a complete Venus Mahadasha is about 7,305 days.

When the Venus Mahadasha arrives

Three nakshatras fall on Venus in the nine-lord ring: Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha. A person whose Moon is in one of them is born inside a Venus Mahadasha with anything from twenty years to nothing left of it. Everyone else meets Venus later, at an age fixed by the lord of the birth nakshatra. The table is the engine's own arithmetic. The lower age assumes the Moon was at the very end of its nakshatra at birth, the upper age that it was at the very start.

Derived from DASHA_SEQUENCE and vimshottariTimeline() in astrologyEngine.js. Once it starts, the Venus period always lasts twenty years, except for a Venus-nakshatra birth, where only the balance remains.

The table explains why one Mahadasha means such different things to different people. For a Venus or Ketu birth it covers childhood and schooling. For a Mercury birth it covers the years from school to early career. For a Saturn birth it sits across mid-life. For Rahu, Mars, Moon and Sun births it comes late or not at all. The start date also depends on the Moon to the degree: in a Venus-nakshatra birth the twenty years are spread across 13 degrees 20 minutes of lunar motion, so one degree of the Moon is eighteen months of dasha. If your birth time is uncertain, read what changes when the birth time is unknown and why apps disagree on your nakshatra before trusting any date. You can confirm your own nakshatra with the nakshatra calculator.

What BPHS says: Chapter 47

Parashara opens the chapter with a distinction that governs everything after it. Ch. 47 Sl. 2 says dasha effects are of two kinds, general and distinctive: the natural character of the graha causes the general effects, and its placement causes the distinctive ones. Sl. 5-6 then give the test. The results are favourable if, at the commencement of the Dasha, the lord is in the Lagna, in its exaltation, in its own sign or in a friendly sign. They are unfavourable if it is in the 6th, 8th or 12th Bhava, in its debilitation, or in an inimical sign.

The Venus passage is Sl. 78-89. Sl. 78 describes the graha in one line, as the embodiment of "intoxication, ecstasy, delight and pride" among the grahas. The conditional statements follow.

Venus well placed (Sl. 79-82)

If Venus is exalted, in its own sign, or in a Kendra or Trikona, the text lists fine clothes, ornaments, conveyances, cattle and land, good food every day, recognition from the sovereign, and gatherings with song and dance. A stronger list is given for Venus in its Mooltrikon: a house, the birth of children and grandchildren, a marriage celebrated in the family, a high position, visits from friends, and the recovery of lost wealth or property. In sign terms, Venus is exalted in Pisces and owns Taurus and Libra. The Kendras are houses 1, 4, 7 and 10 and the Trikonas are 1, 5 and 9, so the house pages for the 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th cover the placements this sloka has in mind.

Venus in the 6th, 8th or 12th (Sl. 83-84)

If Venus is in Ari, Randhr or Vyaya, the text reverses: unfriendly relations with kinsmen, distress to the spouse, losses in business, loss of cattle, and separation from relations. These are the same subjects as the favourable list, turned over. The placements are described on the pages for Venus in the 6th, 8th and 12th house.

Venus in the 4th as lord of the 9th or 10th (Sl. 85-87)

One combination is singled out. If Venus sits in the 4th house while ruling the 9th or the 10th, Parashara lists rulership of a country or village, pious public works such as reservoirs and temples, giving grain in charity, vigour in work, name and fame, and happiness from spouse and children. Venus rules the 9th for Virgo and Aquarius Lagnas and the 10th for Leo and Capricorn Lagnas. The passage is a worked example of the principle in Ch. 48: the house a graha rules shapes its dasha as much as its own nature does.

Venus as lord of the 2nd or 7th (Sl. 88-89)

Sl. 88 first says the effects of Venus in its sub-periods are similar. It then says that if Venus is lord of Dhan or Yuvati, there will be physical pains and troubles during the Dasha, and prescribes a ritual and a gift of cattle. The 2nd and 7th are the Marak houses of the classical scheme. Venus rules both of them for an Aries Lagna, the 2nd for Virgo and the 7th for Scorpio. This page reports the sloka and stops there. The app paraphrases 2nd and 7th lordship as houses needing extra care, with no lifespan language and no remedy, and what the text says about the body is not medical advice.

Which part of the twenty years

Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 add a timing rule that applies to every lord. A graha in the first Dreshkan of its sign, the first ten degrees, shows its effects at the beginning of the Dasha. In the second Dreshkan it shows them in the middle, and in the third at the end. If the graha is retrograde the order is reversed. For a twenty-year period this is a coarse but checkable statement: it points at roughly the first, middle or last third. Venus's degree is on the birth chart and its decanate on the Drekkana (D3) calculator.

What Venus rules in your chart: Chapter 48

Ch. 48 Sl. 1 restates the test in terms of house lords: a lord placed in an auspicious Bhava in exaltation and the like gives favourable effects, and the same lord debilitated in an inauspicious Bhava gives adverse ones. Parashara draws the consequence himself: a natural benefic in debilitation in a bad house "will produce adverse effects". Venus being a benefic by nature does not settle the matter. Sl. 2-8 then give one theme for the Dasha of each house lord. Venus owns two signs, so it always brings two of these themes at once.

LagnaHouses Venus rulesThis app's Ch. 48 themes for them

Capricorn5th and 10thEducation and children; career recognition
Aquarius4th and 9thProperty and home comforts; education, spirituality and unexpected gains
Pisces3rd and 8thEffort-heavy, more testing period; major transformation and financial caution
Lordships follow from Venus owning Taurus and Libra (SIGN_LORDS in kundaliEngine.js). Themes are the app's paraphrase of BPHS Ch. 48 Sl. 2-8 (bhavaTheme1-12 in i18n/dasha.js), with the source's death language removed.

Two things in the table deserve attention. For Capricorn and Aquarius Lagnas Venus rules a Trikona and a Kendra together, which is why those rows carry no cautionary theme. For Aries, Scorpio and Pisces Lagnas both lordships are among the houses Parashara treats with care. The later slokas then qualify even this. Sl. 14-17 say the Dasha of a 6th, 8th or 12th lord becomes favourable if that lord is associated with the lord of a Trikona, and that a Dasha lord receiving the aspect of a Kendra or Trikona lord is also favourable. Sl. 18-20 say the Dashas of the 3rd, 6th and 11th lords, and of grahas placed in the 8th, prove unfavourable. Sl. 5-8 close with the instruction that placement at birth and at the commencement of the Dasha "should both be taken into account". Your Lagna comes from the Lagna calculator.

The nine antardashas of the Venus Mahadasha

BPHS Ch. 51 Sl. 1 gives the rule for sub-periods: multiply the Dasha years of the two grahas and divide by 120. Sl. 2 gives the order: the first Antar Dasha belongs to the Dasha lord itself and the rest follow the usual ring. Inside a twenty-year period the arithmetic is unusually clean, because each lord gets its own years multiplied by two, in months. The function subdivideVimshottari() in the engine does the same division on the exact start and end instants. The mechanics are covered in antardasha and pratyantar.

Ch. 60 follows one pattern throughout. For each sub-lord it gives a favourable reading under stated conditions, an unfavourable one under opposite conditions, and usually a line about 2nd or 7th lordship followed by a remedy. Many conditions are measured from the Dasha lord and not only from the Lagna: the sub-lord in a Kendra, Trikona, 2nd, 3rd or 11th from Venus supports the good reading, and the sub-lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th from Venus supports the difficult one. The conditions are summarised below. The remedy and lifespan lines are omitted.

  • Venus-Venus (Sl. 1-11). Favourable if Venus is strong and in a Kendra, Trikona or the 11th: gain of wealth, celebration of a birth, well-being and recognition. Sl. 3-6 add a new house, happiness to spouse and children, success in business and gain of clothes, conveyances and ornaments if Venus is exalted or in its own sign, or in its exalted or own Navamsa. Sl. 9-10 give the reverse, including distress to spouse and children and trouble with officials, if Venus is with or aspected by a malefic in the 6th, 8th or 12th.
  • Venus-Sun (Sl. 12-20). Favourable if the Sun is exalted, in its own sign, in a Kendra, Trikona, the 2nd or 11th, or so placed from Venus: wealth, happiness from spouse, children, employer and parents, marriage, name and fame. Unfavourable if the Sun is in the 6th, 8th or 12th, debilitated or in an enemy sign: distress in the family, harsh speech, trouble to the father. The translator flags Sl. 12, which reads as if the Sun is harmful everywhere except exaltation or debilitation, as "not correctly worded".
  • Venus-Moon (Sl. 21-29). Favourable if the Moon is exalted, in its own sign, with the 9th or 10th lord or benefics, or in a Kendra, Trikona or the 11th: wealth, conveyances, happiness in the family, the company of musicians and learned people, unusual profits in business. Unfavourable if the Moon is debilitated, combust, in the 6th, 8th or 12th, or in the 6th, 8th or 12th from Venus: loss of wealth, journeys abroad, separation from kin. Sl. 27-29 note well-being at the start of the sub-period and physical distress in its last part.
  • Venus-Mars (Sl. 30-35). Favourable if Mars is in a Kendra, Trikona or the 11th, exalted, in its own sign, or with the lord of the Lagna, 9th or 10th: property, land, ornaments and desired objects. Unfavourable if Mars is in the 6th, 8th or 12th from the Lagna or from Venus: loss of position, quarrels, friction with authority, extravagant spending.
  • Venus-Rahu (Sl. 36-44). Favourable if Rahu is in a Kendra, Trikona or the 11th, or with or aspected by benefics: enjoyment, wealth, visits of friends, successful journeys, land. Sl. 38-39 add enjoyment and the defeat of rivals with Rahu in the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th, with good effects for the first five months and trouble at the end. Sl. 40-41 mention successful foreign journeys and a safe return. Unfavourable if Rahu is with a malefic in the 8th or 12th from Venus.
  • Venus-Jupiter (Sl. 45-51). Favourable if Jupiter is exalted, in its own sign, or in a Kendra or Trikona to the Lagna or to Venus: recovery of what was lost, wealth, good reputation, study of the Shastras, the birth of a son, happiness to parents. Unfavourable if Jupiter is in the 6th, 8th or 12th from Venus and with a malefic: quarrels, mental distress, loss of position, going abroad.
  • Venus-Saturn (Sl. 52-59). Favourable if Saturn is exalted, in its own sign, in a Kendra or Trikona, or in its own Navamsa: enjoyment, visits of friends and kin, recognition, the birth of a daughter, conferment of authority. Lethargy and spending beyond income if Saturn is debilitated. Trouble at the commencement, including losses in profession and going abroad, if Saturn is in the 8th, 11th or 12th from the Lagna or from Venus, as this translation prints the houses.
  • Venus-Mercury (Sl. 60-66). Favourable if Mercury is in a Kendra, Trikona or the 11th from the Lagna or from Venus, exalted or in its own sign: a rise in fortune, the birth of a son, gain through a court judgement, the company of people skilled in poetry, happiness from an employer. Unfavourable if Mercury is weak, with a malefic, or in the 6th, 8th or 12th from Venus: losses in business and living in other people's houses. Sl. 63-65 give a three-part course: some good at the start, moderate in the middle, distress at the end.
  • Venus-Ketu (Sl. 67-74). Favourable from the very start if Ketu is exalted, in its own sign, related to a Yoga Karaka, or has positional strength: unusual gains in profession, and success in a contest at the end of the sub-period. The translator notes that it is "not laid down anywhere" in which Bhava Ketu gains positional strength. Unfavourable if Ketu is in the 8th or 12th from Venus or with a malefic: quarrels without cause, excessive spending, friction with spouse and children, loss in ventures.

Read as a set, the chapter makes one consistent demand: look at where the sub-lord sits counted from Venus. That is a count of signs you can do by eye on the birth chart. A sub-lord in the same sign as Venus is 1st from it, in the next sign 2nd, and so on. The sibling pages for the other lords, such as Saturn Mahadasha, Jupiter Mahadasha, Rahu Mahadasha and Mercury Mahadasha, give the mirror image: what Parashara says of the Venus sub-period inside each of those.

One level further: pratyantardashas

BPHS Ch. 61 Sl. 1 repeats the proportional rule one level down: the Antar Dasha multiplied by each graha's years and divided by 120. Inside the 40-month Venus-Venus antardasha this gives Venus 6 months 20 days, the Sun 2 months, the Moon 3 months 10 days, Mars 2 months 10 days, Rahu 6 months, Jupiter 5 months 10 days, Saturn 6 months 10 days, Mercury 5 months 20 days and Ketu 2 months 10 days. The engine's pratyantardashas() function performs the same division.

Sl. 74-82 give one terse line for each of those nine. Venus-Venus-Venus: white clothes, conveyances, gems such as pearls, and the company of a beautiful partner. With Jupiter: wealth, garments, ornaments and conveyances. With the Moon: the birth of a daughter and acquisition of authority. With Mercury: gains of wealth, knowledge and authority. The lines for the Sun, Mars, Rahu, Saturn and Ketu are adverse, naming fevers, quarrels, trouble with authority and meagre gains. These lines must be read with Sl. 2 of the same chapter, which calls such results "general effects" and says the inauspicious ones do not arise if the graha is in a Trikona, rules or occupies an auspicious Bhava, and is in a benefic Varga, adding that all Pratyantar effects are to be judged the same way. A pratyantar line on its own is the weakest kind of statement in the chapter.

Saravali: a different scheme, and a real disagreement

Kalyana Varma treats dashas in Ch. 41, "Moola Dasa", and the first thing to note is that his scheme is not Vimshottari. Sl. 1 says the duration of a planet's Dasa equals the years it contributes under the Moola Dasa scheme, and the order of periods is set by strength and by angular position, not by the Moon's nakshatra. Sl. 2 even records an opinion of Manitha that night births begin their sequence from Venus, and adds that other preceptors do not accept it. His descriptions of a Venus period are therefore evidence about the nature of the graha as a period lord. They cannot be dated with the Vimshottari calculator.

With that caution, Sl. 45-46 describe a favourable Venus Dasa: success, gain of lands and residences, comforts of the bed, spouse, garlands, robes, good food, fame, happiness and treasure, a liking for music, gain through rulers and lands, wisdom and friends. Sl. 47 describes the unfavourable one: litigation with virtuous people, troubles from conveyances, furniture, women and rulers, and intimacy with "unsocial elements". Sl. 22-24 grade the strength: an exalted planet or one with full strength gives incomparably auspicious results, a planet in its own sign, Moolatrikona or own Navamsa gives moderately auspicious ones, and one in a friendly sign only feebly so. Sl. 19 adds that a planet in a friendly sign but in an enemy's Navamsa, or fallen in Navamsa, gives mixed effects. That is a direct reason to check Venus on the Navamsa (D9) calculator as well; the idea is explained in Navamsa, the second chart.

Ch. 42 Sl. 42-47 then give six sub-periods of the Venus Dasa, and here Saravali and BPHS part company. For the Sun bhukti Saravali names diseases of the throat, stomach and eyes and punishment from the ruler, with no favourable alternative. For the Moon bhukti it names ailments of the nails, teeth and head. For Mars it mixes blood and bile complaints with gain of lands, patronage and enthusiasm. For Mercury: gain, happiness and fulfilment of desires. For Jupiter: growth of virtues, good qualities and wealth. For Saturn: authority over cities and people and the defeat of enemies. These are unconditional one-line statements, where BPHS Ch. 60 makes every sub-period depend on the sub-lord's dignity and its position from Venus. The two also differ in substance on the Sun and the Moon: Parashara allows a fully favourable Venus-Sun and Venus-Moon period, and Kalyana Varma gives only the adverse reading. The body lines are reported as what the text says and are not medical advice.

A modern casebook view: Venus and Saturn

Advanced Predictive Astrology, a modern case-study compilation, has little to say about the Venus Dasa in general but a good deal about one pairing. Its Ch. 4 list of dasa rules states at number 35 that Saturn-Venus and Venus-Saturn periods are usually "very bad for any native", and adds that the aspect of Jupiter modifies the result in a favourable direction. The same chapter cites the Bengali author B. K. Lahiri for a well-known inversion: a Saturn-Venus period gives results like Saturn-Saturn, and a Venus-Saturn period gives results like Venus-Venus. It applies this to cases, among them an accountant dismissed during Saturn-Venus who soon regained his post (Example 63) and a chart with a combust retrograde Venus where Venus-Saturn is said to have "behaved like" Venus-Venus (Example 64).

This is a real disagreement with Parashara and should be read as one. BPHS Ch. 60 Sl. 52-54 give a wholly favourable Venus-Saturn sub-period when Saturn is exalted, in its own sign, in a Kendra or Trikona, or in its own Navamsa, and reserve the difficult reading for a debilitated or badly placed Saturn. The casebook rule is a practitioner's generalisation from collected charts, without the conditions. This app implements neither the blanket rule nor the inversion. The same book's rule 36, that the Dasa of any planet in the 30th degree of a sign is always inauspicious, is likewise not coded here.

How this app reads a Venus Mahadasha

The app applies the Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6 test and nothing more elaborate. The function buildDashaLordEffects() in kundaliEngine.js takes Venus's sign, works out its dignity, reads its house, and returns a verdict. It is favourable when Venus has a strong dignity (exalted, Moolatrikona, own sign or friendly sign) or sits in the Lagna, provided it is not debilitated, not in an enemy sign and not in houses 6, 8 or 12. Otherwise the placement is called "more testing". The sentence you see on the Kundali page always contains the words "classically read as", which mark the claim as the tradition's and not the app's.

  • Favourable theme, as the app words it: "comfort, relationships, creativity and material gain - often the most pleasant of the periods".
  • Testing theme: "strain in relationships, overspending or setbacks tied to partnerships".
  • A second, three-level grade from dashaQuality(): "good" for an exalted, Moolatrikona or own-sign Venus, "challenging" for a debilitated or enemy-sign Venus or one in the 6th, 8th or 12th, and "neutral" for everything else, which includes a merely friendly sign.
  • The two houses Venus rules from your Lagna, each with its Ch. 48 theme from the table above.

The dignity table the engine uses has Venus exalted in Pisces, in its own sign in Taurus and Libra, and debilitated in Virgo. Its natural friends are Mercury and Saturn and its natural enemies the Sun and the Moon, so before any chart-specific adjustment Gemini, Capricorn and Aquarius count as friendly ground and Cancer and Leo as inimical. One detail differs from Parashara. BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 51-54 give Venus the first half of Libra as Mooltrikon and the second half as own sign; since October 2026 the engine's MOOLATRIKONA table follows it, Libra 0 to 15 degrees (it used to mark 27 to 30). For the dasha verdict the difference has no effect, because Moolatrikona and own sign are both strong dignities in both functions. It changes only the label you are shown.

What the engine does not do

It does not apply the Kendra and Trikona clause of Sl. 79-82, the 4th-house combination of Sl. 85-87, the Dreshkan timing rule, or any of the Ch. 60 antardasha conditions. It does not re-test Venus at the commencement of the Dasha as Ch. 48 asks; it uses the birth chart. It makes no statement about marriage dates, wealth amounts or health. The antardasha dates it shows are arithmetic; the readings of them on this page are the texts', and you apply them yourself.

Checking a Venus Mahadasha in your own chart

  1. Get the dates. Open the Vimshottari Dasha calculator and find the Venus row in the timeline. If it is your current period, the nine antardashas are listed with their start and end dates.
  2. Find Venus. On the birth chart note its sign, degree and house. Pisces, Taurus or Libra satisfy the dignity half of Sl. 79-82. Virgo, or houses 6, 8 and 12, are the conditions of Sl. 83-84 and Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6.
  3. Note your Lagna and read the two houses Venus rules from the table above. An Aries, Virgo or Scorpio Lagna brings Sl. 88-89 into play. A Leo, Virgo, Capricorn or Aquarius Lagna with Venus in the 4th is the case of Sl. 85-87.
  4. Check the Navamsa. Ch. 60 Sl. 3-6 count an exalted or own Navamsa for Venus as a strength, and Saravali Ch. 41 Sl. 19 counts an enemy or fallen Navamsa as a mixing factor. Use the Navamsa calculator.
  5. Check strength. Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 say dasha effects follow the strength of the graha. The Shad Bala calculator gives this app's computed strength for Venus.
  6. For the antardasha you are in, count the sub-lord's sign from Venus's sign. A Kendra (1, 4, 7, 10), a Trikona (5, 9) or the 11th supports the favourable reading in most of Ch. 60. The 6th, 8th or 12th supports the difficult one.
  7. Look at the present sky last. A dasha says which graha is active; transits say what that graha is doing now. The Gochar calculator shows current transits counted from your natal Moon, and the Timing feature places the dasha and the transits side by side.

If you would rather ask than count, the AI Life Chat works from the same computed chart, including the dasha verdict described above. How the positions themselves are calculated, and their limits, is set out on the methodology page, and the books behind the readings are listed under sources.

Common misreadings

  • "Venus Mahadasha is always the best period." The app's own favourable theme says "often the most pleasant", and only for a Venus that passes the test. BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 83-84 and Ch. 48 Sl. 1 describe an adverse Venus period in plain words.
  • "Venus Mahadasha means marriage." Sl. 79-82 mention a marriage celebrated in the family for a Mooltrikon Venus. No sloka read for this page gives a rule that the period brings the native's own marriage, and for many birth nakshatras the period falls in childhood or old age.
  • "A benefic cannot give bad results." Ch. 48 Sl. 1 says the opposite directly for a debilitated benefic in an inauspicious house.
  • "Venus-Saturn is always bad" or "always excellent". The casebook says the first, the Lahiri inversion implies the second, and Parashara makes it depend on Saturn's dignity and position.
  • "Saravali's Venus Dasa is the same as the Vimshottari one." It belongs to the Moola Dasa scheme and starts and ends on different dates.

Before and after: the neighbours

The Venus period is always entered from Ketu Mahadasha and always left for Sun Mahadasha, followed by the Moon and Mars periods. The order is fixed by Ch. 46 Sl. 12-14, and the contrast in length is large: seven years, then twenty, then six. The last antardasha of the Venus period is Venus-Ketu, fourteen months long, so the period closes under the lord of the Mahadasha that preceded it.

Questions people ask

At what age will my Venus Mahadasha start?
It depends on the lord of your birth nakshatra and on how far the Moon had moved through that nakshatra. The table near the top of this page gives the range for each lord. The Vimshottari Dasha calculator gives the exact date for your birth details.
Is the Venus Mahadasha good for everyone?
No source read here says so. BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6 make the result depend on the dignity and house of the lord, and Sl. 83-84 describe losses and strained relationships for Venus in the 6th, 8th or 12th.
What if my Venus is debilitated in Virgo?
Then it fails the dignity half of the Ch. 47 test, and this app labels the placement "more testing" and grades it "challenging". Ch. 48 Sl. 14-17 still allow improvement where the lord is associated with or aspected by a Trikona or Kendra lord, and Ch. 60 Sl. 3-6 count an exalted or own Navamsa as a strength. The app does not apply those two clauses automatically.
Does the Venus Mahadasha bring marriage?
BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 79-82 list a marriage celebrated in the family among the results of a Mooltrikon Venus, and Ch. 60 Sl. 13-15 mention marriage in a well-placed Venus-Sun sub-period. Neither is a timing rule, and this app does not derive marriage dates from the dasha.
Why do some astrologers fear the Venus-Saturn period?
Advanced Predictive Astrology states as a working rule that Saturn-Venus and Venus-Saturn periods are usually very bad, softened by Jupiter's aspect. BPHS Ch. 60 Sl. 52-57 do not agree: they give a favourable Venus-Saturn when Saturn is exalted, in its own sign, in a Kendra or Trikona, or in its own Navamsa.
Does a retrograde Venus change the Mahadasha?
BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 say a retrograde graha delivers its effects in reverse order: a Venus in the first Dreshkan would then show its effects at the end of the Dasha instead of the beginning. That is the only statement about retrogression in the passages read for this page.
Why does Saravali describe the Venus sub-periods so differently?
Saravali Ch. 41-42 use the Moola Dasa scheme, with a different order and length of periods, and give each sub-period one unconditional line. BPHS Ch. 60 uses Vimshottari and makes each sub-period conditional on the sub-lord. They are two systems, and they disagree outright on the Sun and Moon sub-periods.
Now on yourself

Vimshottari Dasha

The 120-year cycle of nine lords, dated from the nakshatra your Moon held at birth.

A birth time is optional. Without one this is read at local noon on your birth date - and the Moon moves about 13 degrees in a day, so add the time if you know it.

No place is asked for on this page, so the time is read as Indian Standard Time (IST). Born outside India? Run it on its own page, where you can add the place.

This date is sent only to compute the answer. Nothing is stored, no account is created, and no email is asked for.
