The Personality number defined: the consonants of a name added and reduced. How this app computes it on two letter tables, what the books read into it, and the one book that uses the name for something else.

In short

The Personality number is the total of the consonants in a name, reduced to one digit with 11 and 22 kept. This app computes it on the Pythagorean table for the numerology profile and on the Chaldean table, with a karmic debt check, for the Name Number calculator. One book in the library, Vedic Numerology Basic, uses the same name for the birth-day number instead.

What the term means

The Personality number is the consonant share of a name: every letter that is not a vowel is valued, the values are added, and the total is reduced. Together with the Soul Urge number (the vowels) it splits the whole-name total in two, so on the same table the two halves always add back up to the full name before reduction.

Where the term comes from

Metaphysical Secrets (Ch.7) and Numerology Made Easy (Ch.4) both define it as the consonant sum and read it as the side of a person that others see first. The AIFAS course notes (p.56) give it a double name, Personality or Secret Dream number, and read it both as an inner wish and as a first impression. Vedic Numerology Basic is the exception: in its Vedic Grid steps "Personality Number" means the birth-day number, marked PN-5 for a birth on the 14th, and its dasha starts from that number. On this site that day number is called the Mulank, and "Personality number" always means the consonants.

How this app computes it

  • Profile version: the Pythagorean table; the vowel total is subtracted from the whole-name total. Y is treated as a consonant. Masters are kept.
  • Name Number calculator version: the Chaldean table, where a Y that starts a word and a W beside a vowel move to the vowel side. The consonant total is checked for a karmic debt at each step of reduction.
  • The texts shown beside the Chaldean result are the course notes' readings for 1 to 9, 11 and 22, given as the source's claims.

A small illustration

In "Aarav Kapoor" the consonants are R, V, K, P and R. On the Pythagorean table they add to 31, so the profile's Personality number is 4. On the Chaldean table the same five letters add to 20, and the Name Number calculator returns 2, without a karmic debt flag.

What it needs

Name and birth date

That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
