In short
The Pythagorean system is the numerology letter table that numbers the alphabet in order, A to I as 1 to 9, then J to R and S to Z again from 1, so every digit from 1 to 9 has letters. This app uses it for the Destiny, Soul Urge and Personality numbers on the numerology profile and for the favourable letters. The Name Number calculator uses the Chaldean table instead.
What the term means
In numerology, "Pythagorean" names a way of turning letters into numbers. The alphabet is written out in rows of nine: A to I take 1 to 9, J to R take 1 to 9 again, and S to Z take 1 to 8. Unlike the Chaldean system, every digit 1 to 9 has letters, and the value follows alphabet order rather than the sound of the letter.
Where the term comes from
Metaphysical Secrets (Ch.2) calls Western or Pythagorean numerology "by far the most popular" form, assigns the nine basic numbers to the alphabet, reduces every compound except the master numbers 11 and 22, and builds a reading from six primary numbers, three from the name and three from the birthday. The AIFAS course notes (p.81) print the Pythagorean table first of three, beside the Cheiro (Chaldean) and Sepharial tables, and note (p.82) that only the Pythagorean one gives letters to 9. Numerology Made Easy sets "Western" numerology against the Chaldean system it teaches. The name points to Pythagoras; none of the books in this library documents how the table came to carry it.
How this app computes it
- The numerology profile values each letter on this table to make the Destiny (all letters), Soul Urge (vowels A, E, I, O, U) and Personality (consonants, including Y) numbers, keeping master numbers.
- The favourable letters on the Numerology page are the letters whose Pythagorean value equals the Mulank.
- The Name Number calculator, the karmic debt check and the Maturity and Goal Power numbers use the Chaldean table instead, so a name has two sets of numbers on this site.
- Only Latin letters can be valued; letters in other scripts are skipped and counted.
A small illustration
"Pankaj" on the Pythagorean table is 7, 1, 5, 2, 1, 1, a total of 17, which reduces to 8. The Chaldean table gives the same name 18, which reduces to 9. For a Mulank of 5 the favourable letters the engine returns are E, N and W, the three letters valued 5 here.

What it needs
Name and birth date
That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
