In short
The Soul Urge number is the total of the vowels in a name, reduced to one digit with 11 and 22 kept. This app computes it two ways: on the Pythagorean table with only A, E, I, O and U as vowels, and on the Chaldean table, where Y and W can also count as vowels. The two can differ for the same name.
What the term means
The Soul Urge number takes only the vowels of a name, adds their letter values, and reduces the total. It is one of three numbers split from the same name: the vowels give the Soul Urge, the consonants the Personality number, and all the letters together the whole-name number (the Destiny number on this app's profile).
Where the term comes from
Metaphysical Secrets (Ch.7) defines it as "the sum of all vowels" and reads it as the soul's deepest wish. Numerology Made Easy covers the same vowel sum under the name Heart's Desire (Ch.3) and keeps 11 and 22. The AIFAS course notes (p.50) add rules of their own: use the Chaldean table, take the name from the birth certificate, keep 11 and 22, flag a total of 13, 14, 16 or 19 as a karmic debt, and treat Y as a vowel only "under special consideration". The books agree on the vowels; they disagree on the table and on Y.
How this app computes it
- Profile version: the Pythagorean table, with A, E, I, O and U as the only vowels. Y is always a consonant. Masters are kept.
- Name Number calculator version: the Chaldean table. Y counts as a vowel when it starts a word or is the word's only letter; W counts when it stands next to another vowel in the same word. Each step of the reduction is checked for a karmic debt total before it is reduced away.
- The readings shown beside the Chaldean result are the course notes' texts for 1 to 9, 11 and 22, quoted as the source's claims.
A small illustration
"Aarav Kapoor" has four A's and two O's. On the Pythagorean table they add to 16, so the profile's Soul Urge is 7. On the Chaldean table O is worth 7, the vowels add to 18, and the Name Number calculator returns 9, with no karmic debt flag. Same name, same vowels, two answers, because the tables value O differently.

What it needs
Name and birth date
That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
