In short
Namank, the name number, is the total of the number values of every letter in a name, reduced to a single digit. This app computes it twice, once on the Pythagorean letter table for the Destiny number and once on the Chaldean table for the Name Number calculator, so the same name can give two different results. It needs the name in Latin letters.
What the term means
Namank is the label this site uses for the name number; the numerology books in its library say Name Number, Expression or Purpose instead. Each letter of a name is given a value from a letter table, the values are added, and the total is reduced. It is the third of the core numbers beside the two that come from the birth date, the Mulank and the Bhagyank, and the only one of the three that changes if the spelling changes.
Where the term comes from
Advanced Vedic Numerology (p.41-42) works PANKAJ as 8, 1, 5, 2, 1, 1, a total of 18, then 9, and lists name numbers from 3 upward (p.43). The AIFAS course notes (p.16-17) call it the Expression or Name Number, taken from the official birth name, and print three letter tables side by side (p.81-82) before choosing the Cheiro, or Chaldean, one. Numerology Made Easy (Ch.2) sums the full birth name and calls the result the Purpose; Metaphysical Secrets (Ch.7) calls the same whole-name sum the Expression Number. The books agree on summing every letter and differ on which table to use and on the name to use.
How this app computes it
- On the Pythagorean table (A to I valued 1 to 9, then repeating), the whole-name total becomes the Destiny number, with master numbers kept.
- On the Chaldean table (values 1 to 8 only), the same total feeds the Name Number calculator: reduced fully for the Maturity number, kept as a master for the Goal Power's purpose number, and checked for a karmic debt before it is reduced.
- Only the letters A to Z are read. A name typed only in Devanagari returns no name number and a reason code, rather than a number chosen from a transliteration nobody typed.
A small illustration
Run on "Pankaj", the Chaldean sum is 18, which reduces to 9, the book's own answer. The Pythagorean table gives the same six letters a total of 17, which reduces to 8. One name, two tables, two name numbers.

What it needs
Name and birth date
That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
