In short
The Chaldean system is a way of turning a name into numbers in which letters carry values from 1 to 8 and no letter is worth 9. In this app it drives the Name Number calculator, which builds the name total, Soul Urge and Personality numbers from it. The main numerology profile uses the Pythagorean table instead.
What the term means
The Chaldean system is one of the two letter tables used in name numerology. Each letter gets a value from 1 to 8; the values do not run in alphabet order, and 9 is given to no letter. The other common table, the Pythagorean system, numbers the alphabet 1 to 9 in order, so the same name gives different totals in the two.
Where the term comes from
The AIFAS course notes, Life With Number Magick (p.38), say that in the Chaldean system numbers "only go from 1 to 8", leaving out 9 because it was held "holy and sacred", though a name total of 9 is kept. Advanced Vedic Numerology prints the same chart. A general numerology guide in the corpus describes Chaldean numerology as a system used in Babylon. The books agree on the letter values; the engine notes that Numerology Made Easy prints the same table.
How this app uses it
- The Name Number calculator reads the name with the Chaldean table: A, I, J, Q and Y are 1; F and P are 8; no letter is 9.
- It splits the letters into vowels and consonants for the Soul Urge and Personality numbers. Following the course notes, Y counts as a vowel only at the start of a name part, and W only beside another vowel.
- Totals are reduced with a digit sum, and each step is checked for a karmic debt number.
- The main numerology profile's name numbers use the Pythagorean table instead, so the two pages can show different name numbers for one name.
A small illustration
Run through the Chaldean engine, the name "Aarav Kapoor" totals 38, with a Soul Urge of 9 and a Personality of 2.

What it needs
Name and birth date
That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
