In short

Meena is the Sanskrit name for Pisces, the twelfth sign of the sidereal zodiac, covering 330 to 360 degrees. In this app it is ruled by Jupiter and labelled dual, Water and even; those labels set its Navamsa count, rashi drishti and Hora halves.

What the term means

Meena is the Sanskrit name for Pisces, the twelfth of the twelve rashis: the 30 degrees of sidereal longitude from 330 to 360. The engine's sign list calls it Pisces, and its list of Sanskrit names Meena. It holds the last pada of Purva Bhadrapada and all of Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. This entry covers the name and how the engine handles it; the reading of the sign is on the Pisces (Meena Rashi) page.

Where the term comes from

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 3 names Meen twelfth and last, and Sl. 4 makes it the feet of Kaal Purush (a symbolic mapping, not medical advice). By Sl. 5 it is dual, benefic and female. Sl. 22-24 describe a pair of fish, head to tail, "a watery Rasi", sattvic, footless, of the North, rising with both head and back, and ruled by Guru. BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 make it Venus's exaltation sign, deepest at 27 degrees, and, seventh from Kanya, the sign of Mercury's fall. Saravali Ch. 3 Sl. 7 gives Anthya as another name, and Sl. 24 agrees that it rises with head and hind part together. The two texts disagree on its strength: BPHS calls Meen strong at night, Saravali Ch. 3 Sl. 24 lists it with the day signs.

How this app uses it

  • Lord: SIGN_LORDS gives Meena to Guru (Jupiter).
  • Quality: MODALITY_BY_SIGN marks it dual (dvisvabhava). That sets its Navamsa count to start from Cancer, its rashi drishti onto Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius, and, when it rises, a Badhaka house in the 7th.
  • Element: the engine's element table counts it Water, which feeds the chart's dominant-element count and, when it holds the 10th house, the career reading.
  • Parity: as an even sign, its first 15 degrees are the Moon's Hora (D2) and its last 15 the Sun's.
  • Dignity: Venus is exalted here (deep point 27 degrees) and Mercury debilitated (deep point 15); Jupiter is in its own sign.
