In short
In this app's computation Saturn is in sidereal Pisces from 29 March 2025 to 2 June 2027, steps back into Aries, and returns from 21 October 2027 to 22 February 2028. Counted from the natal Moon, it is the Sade Sati of Aries, Pisces and Aquarius Moons, Ashtama Sani for Leo and Ardha Ashtama Sani for Sagittarius.
A transit is a planet's position now, read against the chart you were born with. Saturn is the slowest graha the classical system uses, so a sign change of Saturn is the transit people notice most. This page covers one of them: Saturn moving through Pisces (Meena), the watery, Jupiter-ruled sign that BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 22-24 describes. It gives the dates as this app computes them, then the rule the app uses to read the transit for each of the twelve Moon signs. For Saturn as a graha, start with Saturn in Vedic astrology; for the sign, Pisces, Meena rashi.
Nothing here says what will happen to you. A transit reading is a named rule about positions; the Gochar calculator applies it to your own Moon sign on any date you choose, and its long-form explains the rule sets in full. This page does not repeat them; it applies them to one sign.
When Saturn is in Pisces: the ingress dates
The table lists every stay of Saturn in sidereal Pisces between 1990 and 2050. Each row is a continuous interval; where Saturn turns retrograde near a sign boundary it leaves the sign and comes back, and the return is a separate row.
| Enters Pisces (UTC) | Leaves Pisces (UTC) | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
| 4 June 1995 | 7 August 1995 | Retrograde back into Aquarius |
| 17 February 1996 | 18 April 1998 | Moves on into Aries |
| 29 March 2025 | 2 June 2027 | Into Aries, then retrograde back |
| 21 October 2027 | 22 February 2028 | Into Aries for the rest of the passage |
Two things follow from the rows. First, a "Saturn in Pisces" period is not one clean block. In 1995 Saturn touched Pisces for about two months, went back to Aquarius from 7 August 1995 to 17 February 1996, and only then settled in. The current passage does the same at its far end: Saturn is in Aries from 2 June 2027 to 21 October 2027, back in Pisces until 22 February 2028, and in Aries again after that. Second, the dates are UTC. An ingress shortly after midnight UTC, like 29 March 2025 at 00:28, is already the morning of 29 March in India.
The calculator also returns Saturn's degree inside the sign and a retrograde flag (vakri). The degree is the better guide to where you are in the passage: Saturn at a low degree of Pisces has most of it still ahead, and a high degree means the next ingress is close. The calculator's own duration label, 913 days, is an average for Saturn in any sign, not the length of this passage.
Pisces counted from your Moon: the house and the verdict
Gochara (what the term means) is read from the natal Moon sign, not from the Lagna. Count from your Moon sign as 1 to Pisces and you get the house Saturn is transiting for you. The engine's computeGochara() then gives Saturn one of three verdicts by that house: the 1st, 8th and 12th are "testing" and the most intense; the 4th is also "testing"; the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 11th are "favourable"; the 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th, where its source gives Saturn no rule, are "neutral". The 11th is favourable for every planet.
Three Saturn periods are named by the same count. The rule is: Saturn in the 12th, 1st or 2nd sign from the Moon is Sade Sati (its rising, peak and setting phases); in the 8th it is Ashtama Sani; in the 4th it is Ardha Ashtama Sani. The last column applies that rule to Pisces.
| Natal Moon sign | Pisces is the | Gochara verdict | Engine note (shortened) | Named Saturn period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 12th | Testing | Most intense of Saturn's positions; patience and consolidation | Sade Sati, rising phase |
| Taurus | 11th | Favourable | The 11th is favourable for every transiting planet | - |
| Gemini | 10th | Neutral | Classically unremarkable for Saturn | - |
| Cancer | 9th | Neutral | Classically unremarkable for Saturn | - |
| Leo | 8th | Testing | Most intense of Saturn's positions; patience and consolidation | Ashtama Sani |
| Virgo | 7th | Neutral | Classically unremarkable for Saturn | - |
| Libra | 6th | Favourable | Supportive; steady, disciplined progress | - |
| Scorpio | 5th | Neutral | Classically unremarkable for Saturn | - |
| Sagittarius | 4th | Testing | The 4th is among the bad positions; steadiness over new commitments | Ardha Ashtama Sani |
| Capricorn | 3rd | Favourable | Supportive; steady, disciplined progress | - |
| Aquarius | 2nd | Favourable | Supportive; steady, disciplined progress | Sade Sati, setting phase |
| Pisces | 1st | Testing | Most intense of Saturn's positions; patience and consolidation | Sade Sati, peak phase |
For a Pisces Moon the calculator also raises its "intensified" flag, because its list pairs Saturn with the 1st house from the Moon. Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, "Research on Transits") gives the same pairing, from what it calls a Tamil palm-leaf reading: Saturn in the 1st from the natal Moon among positions that intensify results. If you do not know your Moon sign, the Moon sign calculator finds it from a birth date; Moon sign and nakshatra explains why the Moon is the reference point.
Sade Sati, Ashtama Sani and Ardha Ashtama Sani during this transit
Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II defines Sade Sati as Saturn transiting the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon, and adds an exception: not when Saturn is a yogakaraka for the chart, well placed and joined or aspected by benefics. It also records an alternative boundary, from Saturn 45 degrees behind the natal Moon to 45 degrees past it. This app uses the whole-sign rule, so its Sade Sati calculator marks the period from Saturn's entry into the 12th sign to its exit from the 2nd. The full rule and its history are on the Sade Sati page and in the Sade Sati glossary entry.
The same book names the other two periods. Saturn in the 4th from the Moon is Ardha Ashtama Sani, which it ties to the 4th as the house of peace of mind and reads as domestic strain. Saturn in the 8th is Ashtama Sani. The book's language for all three is bleak, and some of its examples are deaths; this app does not carry those over and presents each as a named period that asks for steadiness, not as a forecast.
The book also reports a North Indian school that assigns each Moon sign the part of its Sade Sati said to weigh most. For the three signs whose Sade Sati touches Pisces it lists the middle two and a half years for Aries, the last five years for Pisces, and the last two and a half years for Aquarius. The list is reported, not derived, and the engine does not use it.
- Aries Moon: Pisces opens the Sade Sati (rising phase). It continues while Saturn crosses Aries itself.
- Pisces Moon: the peak phase, Saturn over the natal Moon sign. Phaladeepika Ch. 26 Sl. 9, as quoted in Advanced Predictive Astrology, associates Saturn through the Janma Rasi with fatigue and loss of wealth - the text's claim, reported here.
- Aquarius Moon: the setting phase. Saturn has already crossed Capricorn and Aquarius.
- Leo Moon: Ashtama Sani (see also the glossary entry).
- Sagittarius Moon: Ardha Ashtama Sani.
Worked example: an Aquarius Moon through the Pisces passage
Take a natal Moon in Aquarius. Pisces is the 2nd sign from it. Reading the dates from the table above and the neighbouring sign runs from the same tool:
- From 16 January 2023 to 29 March 2025 Saturn is in Aquarius, the 1st from this Moon: Sade Sati peak phase, Gochara "testing".
- From 29 March 2025 to 2 June 2027 Saturn is in Pisces, the 2nd: Sade Sati setting phase. The Gochara verdict for the 2nd is "favourable" - "steady, disciplined progress".
- From 2 June 2027 to 21 October 2027 Saturn is in Aries, the 3rd: Sade Sati is not active, and the 3rd is also "favourable" for Saturn.
- From 21 October 2027 to 22 February 2028 Saturn is back in Pisces: the setting phase resumes.
- From 22 February 2028 Saturn is in Aries again, and by the whole-sign rule this Aquarius Moon's Sade Sati is over.
Two readings run side by side in this example and do not agree. Sade Sati says the 2nd from the Moon is still part of a heavy period; Gochara says Saturn in the 2nd is supportive. They are different rule sets with different sources, and the engine reports both rather than averaging them. The Gochar calculator shows the verdict and the Sade Sati calculator shows the phase; the Gochar long-form discusses how to hold the two together. The example also shows why the return in October 2027 matters: someone told their Sade Sati "ends in June 2027" would be reading only the first exit.
For the timing to mean anything about a particular life, the transit is read alongside the dasha running at the time; Advanced Predictive Astrology calls dasha and transit the two limbs of prediction. A Saturn transit in a Saturn Mahadasha is a different situation from the same transit in a Venus period.
What the classical texts say, and where they are silent
BPHS describes Pisces as a sign (Ch. 4 Sl. 22-24) and Saturn as a graha, but neither BPHS nor Saravali in this library gives a reading for Saturn transiting Pisces. Saravali's "Saturn in Pisces" is about a birth chart, not a transit, and is not used here. The transit rules on this page come from the source the engine's code cites for Gochara and from Advanced Predictive Astrology for the three Saturn periods. Pisces is not singled out by any of them; what matters is which house Pisces is from your Moon.
Neighbouring passages work the same way with the count shifted by one sign: Saturn transit in Aquarius before this one, and Saturn transit in Aries after it. For the other slow transits through the same sign, see Jupiter transit in Pisces and Rahu transit in Pisces. For Saturn's own planetary period, see the Saturn Mahadasha.
- When does Saturn leave Pisces?
- In this app's computation Saturn first leaves Pisces on 2 June 2027 (UTC), returns by retrograde motion on 21 October 2027, and leaves for good on 22 February 2028. Other software may differ by hours to a day or two near those dates.
- Which Moon signs are in Sade Sati while Saturn is in Pisces?
- Aries (rising phase, Pisces is the 12th), Pisces (peak phase, the 1st) and Aquarius (setting phase, the 2nd). The rule is Saturn in the 12th, 1st or 2nd sign from the natal Moon.
- Is Saturn in Pisces good or bad for my sign?
- The engine gives a verdict by house from your Moon, not by sign: favourable for Taurus, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius Moons, testing for Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Pisces, and neutral for the rest. It is a classical rule, not a prediction; check your own Moon in the Gochar calculator.
- Why do some sites give a different date for Saturn entering Pisces?
- Different ayanamsas and ephemerides place the sign boundary slightly differently, and almanacs often quote local time rather than UTC. This app uses the Lahiri ayanamsa and its own planetary model, which can differ from other software by hours to a day or two near an ingress.
- Does the retrograde return in late 2027 count as part of the transit?
- Yes. Whenever Saturn is in Pisces the same house count applies, so the period from 21 October 2027 to 22 February 2028 carries the same verdicts and named periods as the main stay.
