Transits

Every Jupiter stay in Pisces, one of its own signs, from 1990 to 2050 as this app computes it, with the split passages of 1998-99 and 2010-11 and the Gochara verdict for all 12 Moon signs.

In short

In this app's computation Jupiter was last in sidereal Pisces, its own sign, from 13 April 2022 to 22 April 2023 (UTC), and is next there from 28 March 2034 to 6 April 2035, both single continuous stays. From the Moon it is favourable for Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio and Aquarius Moons and testing for Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

Pisces (Meena) is the last sign of the zodiac and the second of the two signs Jupiter rules. Unlike Sagittarius, it has no moolatrikona portion for Jupiter in the engine: the whole sign is plain own sign. A Jupiter transit through Pisces closes the planet's twelve-year circuit before it begins again in Aries. This page gives the dates as this app computes them and the engine's Gochara reading for each Moon sign. On the graha: Jupiter in Vedic astrology. On the sign: Pisces, Meena rashi.

Own-sign dignity does not decide the reading for you; the house that Pisces is from your Moon does. The Gochar calculator applies the rule to your own Moon sign on any date.

Pisces follows the same pattern as Aquarius in this window: broken passages early, clean ones later. In 1998-99 Jupiter entered Pisces on 25 May 1998, fell back into Aquarius from 11 September 1998 to 12 January 1999, and then crossed the rest of Pisces by 26 May 1999. The 2010-11 passage had the same shape, with Aquarius from 1 November to 5 December 2010. The three passages from 2022 onward are single blocks of about a year, entering a couple of weeks earlier each cycle: 13 April 2022, 28 March 2034, 12 March 2046. Each of those ends with Jupiter moving straight on into Aries, and the Aries page shows the same drift carrying on until its 2047 passage splits.

The exit on 26 May 1999 is at 00:06 UTC, which was already the morning of 26 May in India, the same calendar date. Near a boundary the calculator's degree-in-sign and vakri (retrograde) flag show where Jupiter is; its "about 365 days" label is a classical average, close to the length of the 2022-23 and 2034-35 stays but not a measurement of them.

Counted from your Moon: the house Pisces is for each sign

For Gochara, count from the natal Moon sign to Pisces. The engine reads Jupiter with the benefic rule: favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th; favourable in the 11th for every planet; indifferent in the 3rd and 6th; testing in the 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th.

Jupiter's two own signs both come out "testing" here, for different reasons: for a Pisces Moon, Jupiter transits over the Moon sign; for a Sagittarius Moon, Pisces is the 4th, a position the engine's source lists as bad for benefics and malefics alike. A Cancer Moon, the sign of Jupiter's exaltation, has Pisces in its 9th, "favourable". Capricorn, the sign of its fall, has Pisces in its 3rd: indifferent, with the calculator's "intensified" flag. The Moon sign calculator gives your Moon sign; the Moon sign glossary entry explains the convention.

The Gemini row is where the engine and Advanced Predictive Astrology differ. Pisces is the 10th from Gemini; the engine counts the 10th as favourable for a benefic, while the book's list for Jupiter is the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th. For a Gemini Moon, then, one source calls the Pisces year favourable and the other does not list it. This page reports the disagreement and does not settle it.

What the classical texts say

BPHS and Saravali in this library do not read Jupiter's transit through Pisces as such. Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II, "Research on Transits" (pp. 310-311), gives the rules that apply:

  • Jupiter "gives good results in 2/5/7/9/11th" from the Moon: for Pisces, the Aquarius, Scorpio, Virgo, Cancer and Taurus Moons.
  • Jupiter over the Moon sign is "said to induct a sense of fear and anxiety": the Pisces Moon, even though the transiting Jupiter is in its own sign and is that Moon sign's lord.
  • Jyotish-Tattvam (Vol. I, Ch. X, Vs. 25-26), as quoted, ties Jupiter in the 5th to the birth of a child: the Scorpio Moon.
  • A Tamil palm-leaf reading places Jupiter in the 3rd from the Moon among positions that "will produce intensified" results: the Capricorn Moon.
  • Transit Jupiter "just over its radical position or from a trine" is read as bringing "cheer and happiness to the mind". People born with Jupiter in Pisces have that return during this transit; those with natal Jupiter in Cancer or Scorpio have the trine. That needs natal Jupiter, not the Moon.

The sign itself: Jupiter's own watery sign

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 22-24 describes Meen as a pair of fish, "one tailed with the head of the other", watery, Sattvic, strong at night, a sign that "denotes resoluteness", footless, rising with both head and back, ruled by Guru. The engine labels Jupiter in Pisces as in its own sign across all 30 degrees (see swakshetra). Jupiter crosses the last pada of Purva Bhadrapada and all of Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati, ending the zodiac. The natal placement: Jupiter in Pisces.

Worked example: a Scorpio Moon through 2021-24

Take a natal Moon in Scorpio. Pisces is its 5th sign; Aquarius, its 4th; Aries, its 6th. Reading the 2022-23 passage with its neighbours:

  1. 21 November 2021 to 13 April 2022: Aquarius, the 4th - "testing".
  2. 13 April 2022 to 22 April 2023: Pisces, the 5th - "favourable", and the house Jyotish-Tattvam links to children.
  3. 22 April 2023 to 1 May 2024: Aries, the 6th - "neutral".

This is the simplest kind of Jupiter transit to read: one clean year in the sign, with a testing year before it and an indifferent one after, for this Moon. The example shows the reading, not an outcome; nothing here says what anyone with a Scorpio Moon experienced in 2022. The classical method reads the transit with the running dasha - for one, the Jupiter Mahadasha - and the Gochar calculator gives the verdict for any date.

Neighbouring passages: Jupiter transit in Aquarius and Jupiter transit in Aries. Jupiter's other own sign: Jupiter transit in Sagittarius. Saturn's current passage through the same sign: Saturn transit in Pisces.

When is Jupiter next in Pisces?
In this app's computation, from 28 March 2034 to 6 April 2035 (UTC), in one continuous stay.
When was Jupiter last in Pisces?
From 13 April 2022 to 22 April 2023, also in one continuous stay.
Is Jupiter in Pisces good for my Moon sign?
The engine reads it as favourable for Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio and Aquarius Moons, testing for Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Pisces, and neutral for Libra and Capricorn. See yours in the Gochar calculator.
Was Jupiter in Pisces for all of 1998-99?
No. It entered on 25 May 1998, went back into Aquarius from 11 September 1998 to 12 January 1999, and then stayed in Pisces until 26 May 1999. The 2010-11 passage was split the same way, with Aquarius from 1 November to 5 December 2010. For those gaps the Aquarius verdicts apply.
Which Moon sign gets the "intensified" flag while Jupiter is in Pisces?
Capricorn, since Pisces is its 3rd sign and the calculator's "intensified" list pairs Jupiter with the 3rd from the Moon. The verdict for a Capricorn Moon stays "neutral"; the flag is a separate output.
Why is Jupiter in its own sign "testing" for a Pisces Moon?
Because the engine judges by house from the Moon, and the 1st from the Moon is a testing position for a benefic. Advanced Predictive Astrology likewise says Jupiter over the Moon sign is associated with anxiety. Dignity does not enter the verdict.
Why might another program show a different date?
Programs differ in ayanamsa, planetary model and time zone. This app quotes UTC and may differ from others by hours to a day or two near an ingress.

A birth time is optional. Without one this is read at local noon on your birth date - and the Moon moves about 13 degrees in a day, so add the time if you know it.

No place is asked for on this page, so the time is read as Indian Standard Time (IST). Born outside India? Run it on its own page, where you can add the place.
