In short

In this app's computation Jupiter was last in sidereal Aries from 22 April 2023 to 1 May 2024 (UTC) and next returns from 6 April 2035 to 14 April 2036. Counted from the Moon, the engine reads it as favourable for Pisces, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Libra and Sagittarius Moons and testing for Aries, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.

Jupiter takes roughly twelve years to go round the zodiac, so it spends about a year in each sign. Aries (Mesha) is where that circuit restarts: the first sign, fiery and movable, ruled by Mars. This page gives the dates on which Jupiter enters and leaves Aries as this app computes them, then reads the transit for each of the twelve Moon signs with the rule the engine uses. For Jupiter as a graha, see Jupiter in Vedic astrology; for the sign, Aries, Mesha rashi.

A transit page cannot say what a year will bring for you. It can say where Jupiter is, which house that is from your natal Moon, and what a named rule reads into that house. The Gochar calculator does the same for your own Moon sign on any date you pick.

Dates: when Jupiter is in Aries

Each row below is one continuous stay of Jupiter in sidereal Aries, from 1990 to 2050. A retrograde loop that carries Jupiter back over the boundary splits a stay into two rows.

Enters Aries (UTC)Leaves Aries (UTC)Then
26 May 19992 June 2000Into Taurus
8 May 201117 May 2012Into Taurus
22 April 20231 May 2024Into Taurus
6 April 203514 April 2036Into Taurus
21 March 204716 August 2047Into Taurus, then retrograde back
13 October 204727 March 2048Into Taurus for the rest of the passage
This app's computation (Lahiri ayanamsa, Meeus/JPL planet positions; transit-ingresses.mjs, run 2026-10-14), to the day, in UTC. Other software or a printed panchang may differ by hours to a day or two near an ingress.

For four cycles the pattern is simple: Jupiter crosses Aries in one clean pass of a little over a year, and each entry comes about two weeks earlier in the calendar than the one before (late May in 1999, early May in 2011, late April in 2023, early April in 2035). That drift is why the 2047 passage looks different. By then the entry has slid to 21 March, Jupiter's retrograde season falls across the Aries-Taurus boundary, and it spends 16 August to 13 October 2047 in Taurus before backing into Aries again. Read that two-month gap as Taurus, not Aries.

One timing detail matters for Indian readers. The 1999 ingress is computed for 26 May at 00:06 UTC, which is already the morning of 26 May in India; the 2036 exit, 14 April at 22:47 UTC, falls on 15 April in Indian time. The calculator also reports whether Jupiter is vakri (retrograde) on the date you ask about, and its "about 365 days" label is the classical average for Jupiter in any sign, not a measurement of this passage.

Counted from your Moon: the house this transit falls in

Transit results are read from the natal Moon sign (Gochara), not from the Lagna. Count your Moon sign as 1 and step forward to Aries: that count is the house Jupiter occupies for you. Jupiter is a natural benefic, so the engine applies the benefic rule: the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th are favourable, the 11th is favourable for every planet, the 3rd and 6th are indifferent, and the 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th are testing.

From computeGochara() via engine-facts.mjs jupiter-transit-in-aries (run 2026-10-14). The "intensified" flag is the engine's Jupiter-in-the-3rd entry.

Six of the twelve Moon signs get a favourable verdict, four a testing one, two an indifferent one. Aquarius is the odd case: the verdict is neutral, but the calculator also raises its "intensified" flag, because its list pairs Jupiter with the 3rd house from the Moon. The two outputs are separate rules and the engine shows both. If you do not know your Moon sign, the Moon sign calculator finds it from a birth date, and the Moon sign glossary entry explains why the Moon is the reference.

What the classical texts say about Jupiter's transit

BPHS and Saravali in this library do not give a reading for Jupiter transiting Aries; Saravali's "Jupiter in Aries" is a birth placement and is not used here. The transit material comes from Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II, in its chapter "Research on Transits" (pp. 310-311), and from the source the engine's code cites for Gochara.

  • Advanced Predictive Astrology states that Jupiter "gives good results in 2/5/7/9/11th" from the Moon. The engine adds the 10th to that list from its own source; the two disagree on the 10th, which matters here for a Cancer Moon.
  • The same page says Jupiter over the Moon sign is "said to induct a sense of fear and anxiety" - the 1st-house case, an Aries Moon on this page. The engine's "testing" verdict for the 1st is consistent with it.
  • It quotes Jyotish-Tattvam (Vol. I, Ch. X, Vs. 25-26): Jupiter will "favour with birth of a child" during transit through the 5th. Here that is the Sagittarius Moon.
  • It notes that transit Jupiter over its own natal position, or trine to it, tends to be read as cheerful, while transit Jupiter opposite its natal position is not. That is a reading from natal Jupiter, not from the Moon, and needs a full chart.
  • It reports a Tamil palm-leaf reading in which Jupiter in the 3rd from the natal Moon will produce "intensified" results - the source of the calculator's flag for an Aquarius Moon.

The book's broader point is that Jupiter's transit is the one to watch for auspicious events such as marriage, children and honour, and that dasha and transit are read together. A Jupiter transit read alone, without the period running in the chart, is half of the method.

The sign itself: Aries and Jupiter's dignity there

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 6-7 describes Mesh as fiery, Rajasic, rising with its back, and says it "denotes courage"; its ruler is Mangal. Mars is a natural friend of Jupiter, so the engine marks Jupiter in Aries as being in a friendly sign across the whole 30 degrees - not exalted, not in its own sign, and not weak. The nakshatras Jupiter crosses here are Ashwini, Bharani and the first pada of Krittika. For Jupiter as a natal placement in this sign, see Jupiter in Aries.

Dignity and Gochara are separate questions. The verdict in the table depends only on which house Aries is from your Moon. A friendly-sign Jupiter is a point about the planet's condition, which some readers weigh when judging how fully a favourable house delivers; the engine's verdict does not change with it.

Worked example: a Sagittarius Moon through 2023-24

Take a natal Moon in Sagittarius. Counting Sagittarius as 1, Aries is the 5th sign. Reading the table above and the neighbouring sign runs from the same tool:

  1. From 13 April 2022 to 22 April 2023 Jupiter is in Pisces, the 4th from this Moon: the engine says "testing", the 4th being among the positions listed as bad for every planet.
  2. From 22 April 2023 to 1 May 2024 Jupiter is in Aries, the 5th: "favourable". This is also the house Jyotish-Tattvam ties to the birth of a child, as Advanced Predictive Astrology quotes it.
  3. From 1 May 2024 to 14 May 2025 Jupiter is in Taurus, the 6th: "neutral", an indifferent position.

The example shows the year-by-year rhythm of a Jupiter transit: one house per year, each with its own verdict, and here a favourable year between a testing one and an indifferent one. It does not say anything happened to anyone with a Sagittarius Moon in 2023. The Jupiter Mahadasha page explains the period that the transit is read alongside, and the Gochar calculator gives the verdict for any date.

The neighbouring passages read the same way with the count shifted by one: Jupiter transit in Pisces before this one and Jupiter transit in Taurus after it. Saturn and Rahu pass through Aries too: see Saturn transit in Aries.

When is Jupiter next in Aries?
In this app's computation, from 6 April 2035 to 14 April 2036 (UTC). The previous stay was 22 April 2023 to 1 May 2024. Other software may differ by hours to a day or two near those dates.
Is Jupiter strong in Aries?
The engine marks it as in a friendly sign, because Aries is ruled by Mars, a natural friend of Jupiter. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and in its own signs in Sagittarius and Pisces, not in Aries.
Is Jupiter in Aries good for my Moon sign?
The engine judges by house from your Moon: favourable for Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Pisces Moons, testing for Aries, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, neutral for Scorpio and Aquarius. It is a classical rule, not a prediction; check your own Moon in the Gochar calculator.
Why does the 2047 passage have two rows?
Jupiter enters Aries on 21 March 2047, crosses into Taurus on 16 August, turns retrograde and comes back into Aries on 13 October, and leaves for good on 27 March 2048. The two months between are a Taurus stay.
Why do some almanacs give a different ingress date?
Different ayanamsas and planetary models put the sign boundary in slightly different places, and almanacs often quote local time rather than UTC. This app uses the Lahiri ayanamsa and its own Meeus/JPL-based positions.

Gochar Transits Today

All nine grahas' signs today, read from your natal Moon and not your ascendant.

A birth time is optional. Without one this is read at local noon on your birth date - and the Moon moves about 13 degrees in a day, so add the time if you know it.

No place is asked for on this page, so the time is read as Indian Standard Time (IST). Born outside India? Run it on its own page, where you can add the place.

This date is sent only to compute the answer. Nothing is stored, no account is created, and no email is asked for.
