In short

In this app's computation Jupiter was in sidereal Taurus from 1 May 2024 to 14 May 2025 (UTC). Its next passage begins on 14 April 2036 and is split by retrograde motion, ending on 26 April 2037. From the Moon it is favourable for Aries, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio and Capricorn Moons.

Jupiter's transit through Taurus (Vrishabha) is its passage through an earthy, fixed sign ruled by Venus, a planet the classical scheme counts as Jupiter's enemy. The page sets out when it happens, as this app computes it, and how the engine reads it for each Moon sign. Background on the graha is on Jupiter in Vedic astrology, and on the sign at Taurus, Vrishabha rashi.

What follows is a set of positions and the rules applied to them; it is not a forecast. To apply the same rule to your own Moon on a date of your choosing, use the Gochar calculator.

Dates: when Jupiter is in Taurus

The table lists every stay that begins between 1990 and 2050. Taurus is a sign where the clean one-year pass of the early cycles gives way to fragmented passages later on, so the later rows come in groups.

This app's computation (Lahiri ayanamsa; transit-ingresses.mjs, run 2026-10-14), to the day, in UTC. Other software may differ by hours to a day or two near an ingress.

The first three rows are the textbook picture: about thirteen months in the sign, entry and exit both in late spring. The 2036-37 passage is different. Jupiter enters Taurus on 14 April 2036, runs ahead into Gemini on 9 September, turns retrograde, and is back in Taurus from 17 November 2036 until 26 April 2037. The 2047 row is a short visit from the other side: Jupiter, still on its Aries passage, crosses into Taurus for under two months and backs out again. The full Taurus passage then comes in 2048-49, itself split by a Gemini excursion from 12 August to 28 December 2048.

Two exits fall late in the UTC day: 15 June 2001 at 21:49 UTC is already 16 June in India, and the 14 April 2036 entry at 22:47 UTC is 15 April in Indian time. Near any of these boundaries, the calculator's degree-in-sign and retrograde (vakri) flag tell you more than its average "about 365 days" label.

Counted from your Moon: the house Taurus is for each sign

The Gochara count starts at the natal Moon sign. Jupiter takes the benefic rule in the engine: favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th, favourable in the 11th as every planet is, indifferent in the 3rd and 6th, testing in the 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th.

From computeGochara() via engine-facts.mjs jupiter-transit-in-taurus (run 2026-10-14).

Jupiter rules Pisces, and here a Pisces Moon has its own lord transiting the 3rd: the verdict is indifferent and the calculator also raises the "intensified" flag it reserves for Jupiter in the 3rd. For a Libra Moon, whose lord Venus owns Taurus, the transiting Jupiter sits in the 8th, a testing position. Those two cases show that the verdict follows the house count, not any relationship between your Moon's lord and the sign. The Moon sign calculator finds your Moon sign; Moon sign explains the term.

The split passages change what the table means in practice for some signs. A Gemini Moon has Taurus as its 12th and Gemini itself as its 1st, both testing, so during 2036-37 its verdict stays "testing" whichever side of the boundary Jupiter is on. A Cancer Moon is different: Taurus is its 11th (favourable) and Gemini its 12th (testing), so the same back-and-forth flips its verdict three times between April 2036 and April 2037. Anyone reading a split passage should check the date, not just the year.

What the classical texts say

Neither BPHS nor Saravali in this library reads Jupiter's transit through Taurus as such. The transit rules come from the source the engine's code cites and from Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II, "Research on Transits" (pp. 310-311), which reports several older statements:

  • Jupiter "gives good results in 2/5/7/9/11th" from the Moon. For Taurus that list covers Aries, Capricorn, Scorpio, Virgo and Cancer Moons. The engine also counts the 10th (a Leo Moon here); the book does not.
  • Jupiter over the Moon sign is "said to induct a sense of fear and anxiety" - the Taurus Moon's case, which the engine marks "testing".
  • Jyotish-Tattvam (Vol. I, Ch. X, Vs. 25-26), as quoted, ties Jupiter's transit through the 5th to the birth of a child: for Taurus, a Capricorn Moon.
  • A Tamil palm-leaf reading the book cites lists Jupiter in the 3rd from the Moon among positions that "will produce intensified" results.

The same chapter treats Jupiter's transit as the one to look at for auspicious events - marriage, children, honour - and insists that the dasha be read too. That caveat carries more weight for a sign like Taurus, where the planet is in an enemy's sign and readers will disagree about how much of a favourable house it delivers.

The sign itself: Venus's earthy sign

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 8 describes Vrishabh as white, lorded by Sukr, earthy, quadruped, and says it "represents villages and businessmen". Venus and Jupiter are natural enemies in the engine's relationship table, so the engine labels Jupiter in Taurus as being in an enemy sign for all 30 degrees. That is a statement about Jupiter's condition, not about the Gochara verdict, which depends only on the house count. Here Jupiter moves through the last three padas of Krittika, all of Rohini, and the first two padas of Mrigashira. The natal placement is covered at Jupiter in Taurus.

Worked example: a Scorpio Moon from 2023 to 2026

Take a natal Moon in Scorpio. Taurus is the 7th sign from it, directly opposite. Using the dates above and the neighbouring sign runs:

  1. 22 April 2023 to 1 May 2024: Jupiter in Aries, the 6th from this Moon - "neutral", an indifferent position.
  2. 1 May 2024 to 14 May 2025: Jupiter in Taurus, the 7th - "favourable", and the 7th is in Advanced Predictive Astrology's list as well.
  3. 14 May 2025 to 18 October 2025: Jupiter in Gemini, the 8th - "testing".
  4. 18 October 2025 to 5 December 2025: Jupiter briefly in Cancer, the 9th - "favourable".
  5. 5 December 2025 to 1 June 2026: Jupiter back in Gemini, the 8th - "testing" again.

The Taurus year is the one clean favourable block in that run for a Scorpio Moon; the years around it are mixed or indifferent. That is the whole content of the example. Whether anything in a life lined up with it depends on the chart's dasha (see the Jupiter Mahadasha for one of them) and on the rest of the chart, which the Gochar calculator does not judge.

The adjacent passages: Jupiter transit in Aries before and Jupiter transit in Gemini after. For Saturn in the same sign, see Saturn transit in Taurus.

When was Jupiter last in Taurus, and when is it next?
In this app's computation Jupiter was in Taurus from 1 May 2024 to 14 May 2025 (UTC). The next passage runs from 14 April 2036 to 9 September 2036 and again from 17 November 2036 to 26 April 2037.
Is Jupiter weak in Taurus?
The engine labels it as in an enemy sign, because Taurus is ruled by Venus. That is one dignity rung, not a debilitation: Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn. The Gochara verdict ignores dignity and uses only the house count.
Which Moon signs get a favourable verdict from Jupiter in Taurus?
Aries, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio and Capricorn. Taurus, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are testing; Sagittarius and Pisces are neutral. The Gochar calculator shows yours.
What is the short Taurus stay in 2047?
Jupiter enters Taurus from Aries on 16 August 2047, turns retrograde, and returns to Aries on 13 October 2047. Its proper Taurus passage starts on 27 March 2048.
Why might another app give a different date?
Ayanamsa and planetary model differ between programs, and many almanacs give local time. Near an ingress this app can differ from others by hours to a day or two.
