In short
In this app's computation Jupiter is next in sidereal Aquarius from 18 March 2033 to 28 March 2034 (UTC), in one continuous stay. It was last there from 5 April to 13 September 2021 and from 21 November 2021 to 13 April 2022. From the Moon it is favourable for Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Libra and Capricorn Moons.
Aquarius (Kumbha) is Saturn's airy, fixed sign. In the engine's relationship table Saturn is neither friend nor enemy to Jupiter, so Jupiter in Aquarius carries the plain "neutral" dignity label - neither the support of Sagittarius or Cancer nor the weakness of Capricorn. This page gives the dates of Jupiter's stays in Aquarius as this app computes them and the engine's Gochara reading for each Moon sign. The graha: Jupiter in Vedic astrology. The sign: Aquarius, Kumbha rashi.
The page describes positions and rules, not what will happen. For your own Moon on a chosen date, use the Gochar calculator.
Dates: when Jupiter is in Aquarius
Every stay of Jupiter in sidereal Aquarius beginning between 1990 and 2050, retrograde returns as separate rows.
| Enters Aquarius (UTC) | Leaves Aquarius (UTC) | Then |
|---|---|---|
| 8 January 1998 | 25 May 1998 | Into Pisces, then retrograde back |
| 11 September 1998 | 12 January 1999 | Into Pisces |
| 1 May 2009 | 31 July 2009 | Retrograde back into Capricorn |
| 19 December 2009 | 1 May 2010 | Into Pisces, then retrograde back |
| 1 November 2010 | 5 December 2010 | Into Pisces |
| 5 April 2021 | 13 September 2021 | Retrograde back into Capricorn |
| 21 November 2021 | 13 April 2022 | Into Pisces |
| 18 March 2033 | 28 March 2034 | Into Pisces |
| 1 March 2045 | 12 March 2046 | Into Pisces |
Aquarius runs against the trend of the signs before it. In this window its early passages are the broken ones and its later passages the clean ones. In 1998 Jupiter spent January to May in Aquarius, went ahead into Pisces until 11 September, and returned until 12 January 1999. The 2009-10 passage had three pieces, the last only five weeks long (1 November to 5 December 2010). The 2021-22 passage had two. Then, from 18 March 2033 to 28 March 2034, Jupiter crosses Aquarius in one block of about a year, and the 2045-46 passage is the same. Someone checking a date in mid-1998 or mid-2010 against "Jupiter in Aquarius" should look at the rows: both of those summers were Pisces.
The 2033 entry is at 00:45 UTC on 18 March, already the morning of 18 March in India. For the broken passages, the calculator's degree-in-sign and vakri (retrograde) flag show where Jupiter is in its loop; the "about 365 days" figure it prints is the classical average for a sign, which the 2033-34 stay happens to match closely.
Counted from your Moon: the house Aquarius is for each sign
For Gochara, count from the natal Moon sign to Aquarius. The engine reads Jupiter with the benefic rule: favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th; favourable in the 11th for every planet; indifferent in the 3rd and 6th; testing in the 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th.
| Natal Moon sign | Aquarius is the | Gochara verdict | Engine note (shortened) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 11th | Favourable | The 11th is favourable for every transiting planet |
| Taurus | 10th | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Gemini | 9th | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Cancer | 8th | Testing | More testing even for a natural benefic |
| Leo | 7th | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Virgo | 6th | Neutral | A classically indifferent position |
| Libra | 5th | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Scorpio | 4th | Testing | Listed among the bad positions for every planet; steadiness over new commitments |
| Sagittarius | 3rd | Neutral | A classically indifferent position; also flagged "intensified" |
| Capricorn | 2nd | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Aquarius | 1st | Testing | More testing even for a natural benefic |
| Pisces | 12th | Testing | More testing even for a natural benefic |
Both of Saturn's Moon signs are covered here: a Capricorn Moon has Jupiter in its 2nd ("favourable"), an Aquarius Moon has it overhead ("testing"). Jupiter's own Moon signs fare differently: for Sagittarius, Aquarius is the 3rd, indifferent but flagged "intensified"; for Pisces, it is the 12th, "testing". A Taurus Moon gets "favourable" for the 10th from the engine, a house Advanced Predictive Astrology leaves out of its list for Jupiter. The Moon sign calculator finds your Moon sign; the Moon sign glossary entry explains why it is used.
In the 2021-22 passage, Moon signs whose verdicts differ between Capricorn and Aquarius saw them change back and forth. A Sagittarius Moon has Capricorn as its 2nd ("favourable") and Aquarius as its 3rd ("neutral"); an Aquarius Moon has Capricorn as its 12th and Aquarius as its 1st, both "testing", so nothing changed for it at those boundaries. A Pisces Moon went from Capricorn, its 11th ("favourable"), to Aquarius, its 12th ("testing"), on 5 April 2021, back on 13 September, and forward again on 21 November.
What the classical texts say
No reading for Jupiter transiting Aquarius appears in BPHS or Saravali in this library. Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II, "Research on Transits" (pp. 310-311), gives the general statements:
- Jupiter "gives good results in 2/5/7/9/11th" from the Moon: for Aquarius, the Capricorn, Libra, Leo, Gemini and Aries Moons.
- Jupiter over the Moon sign is "said to induct a sense of fear and anxiety": the Aquarius Moon.
- Jyotish-Tattvam (Vol. I, Ch. X, Vs. 25-26), as quoted, connects Jupiter in the 5th with the birth of a child: the Libra Moon.
- A Tamil palm-leaf reading puts Jupiter in the 3rd from the Moon among positions that "will produce intensified" results: the Sagittarius Moon.
The same pages pair the two slow benefic and malefic transits: "Without involvement of Jupiter and Saturn no event can occur in life," the book says, and it treats Jupiter as the transit for auspicious events and Saturn for difficult ones. In Aquarius the two meet on the same ground, because Aquarius is Saturn's own sign; the book does not draw a special conclusion from that, and neither does this page.
The sign itself: Saturn's airy sign
BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 21 describes Kumbh as "a man holding a pot", deep-brown, of medium build, biped, airy, rising with its head, Tamasic, "very strong in daytime", resorting to deep water, with Sani as its lord. The engine labels Jupiter in Aquarius "neutral" across all 30 degrees. In this sign Jupiter crosses the last two padas of Dhanishta, all of Shatabhisha, and the first three padas of Purva Bhadrapada. For the natal placement, see Jupiter in Aquarius.
Worked example: a Libra Moon through 2020-23
Take a natal Moon in Libra. Aquarius is its 5th sign; Capricorn, its 4th; Pisces, its 6th. Reading the 2021-22 passage with its neighbours:
- 20 November 2020 to 5 April 2021: Capricorn, the 4th - "testing".
- 5 April to 13 September 2021: Aquarius, the 5th - "favourable".
- 13 September to 21 November 2021: Capricorn again - "testing".
- 21 November 2021 to 13 April 2022: Aquarius - "favourable".
- 13 April 2022 to 22 April 2023: Pisces, the 6th - "neutral".
For this Moon the two Aquarius stretches are the favourable part of an otherwise testing-then-indifferent run, and the 5th is the house the quoted Jyotish-Tattvam verse ties to children. The example demonstrates how to read the dates; it is not a statement about anyone with a Libra Moon. The classical method reads the transit with the running dasha - see the Jupiter Mahadasha - and the Gochar calculator gives the verdict for any one date.

- When is Jupiter next in Aquarius?
- In this app's computation, from 18 March 2033 to 28 March 2034 (UTC), in one continuous stay.
- When was Jupiter last in Aquarius?
- From 5 April to 13 September 2021 and from 21 November 2021 to 13 April 2022. Between those stretches Jupiter was back in Capricorn.
- Is Jupiter in Aquarius good for my Moon sign?
- The engine reads it as favourable for Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Libra and Capricorn Moons, testing for Cancer, Scorpio, Aquarius and Pisces, and neutral for Virgo and Sagittarius. See yours in the Gochar calculator.
- How was the 2009-10 Aquarius passage split?
- Into three stretches: 1 May to 31 July 2009, after which Jupiter was back in Capricorn until 19 December 2009; then 19 December 2009 to 1 May 2010, after which it was in Pisces until 1 November 2010; and finally 1 November to 5 December 2010. Each stretch carries the Aquarius verdicts; the gaps carry Capricorn's or Pisces's.
- Which Moon sign gets the "intensified" flag?
- Sagittarius. Aquarius is its 3rd sign, and the calculator's "intensified" list pairs Jupiter with the 3rd from the Moon - a pairing Advanced Predictive Astrology reports from a Tamil palm-leaf reading. The Sagittarius verdict stays "neutral".
- What is Jupiter's dignity in Aquarius?
- The engine labels it "neutral": Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, which the engine's natural-relationship table treats as neither friend nor enemy of Jupiter. The Gochara verdict does not use dignity.
- Why might another program show a different date?
- Programs differ in ayanamsa, planetary model and time zone. This app quotes UTC and may differ from others by hours to a day or two near an ingress.
