In short
Saravali is a classical Sanskrit astrology text by Kalyana Varma. This app uses it as a second source beside BPHS: the yogas formed from the Moon and from the Sun, the chapter on planetary rays, and one rule from its Raja Yoga chapter. Most of that Raja Yoga chapter is deliberately left unused.
What the term means
Saravali is a hora text attributed to Kalyana Varma. Where this site writes "Saravali Ch. 13 Sl. 1-7", it means a chapter and slokas of the English translation in the project's library. It covers much of the same ground as BPHS, often in more detail on single combinations.
Where the term comes from
The translation opens with an index of chapters and a caption for the important verses of each. Ch. 13, "Lunar Yogas", gives Sunapha, Anapha, Durudhura and Kemadruma, all read from the Moon's sign. Ch. 14, "Yogas from the Sun", gives Vasi, Vesi and Ubhayachari, the same structure measured from the Sun. Ch. 35 collects Raja Yogas, Ch. 36 computes the "rays" each planet contributes at birth, and Ch. 37 treats the five Pancha MahaPurusha Yogas. BPHS has its own chapters on lunar and solar yogas (Ch. 37 and 38), so the engine comment beside each rule names the text it was taken from.
How this app uses it
- Lunar Yogas: the engine checks which of the five classical grahas sit in the 2nd and 12th signs from the Moon, and flags Kemadruma only when neither those signs nor the kendras from the Moon hold a graha and no graha aspects the Moon.
- Solar Yogas: the same 2nd/12th test, measured from the Sun.
- Planetary rays: a continuous score per graha from its distance to exaltation, following Ch. 36.
- Raja Yogas: one rule only, the Chandradhi (Adhi) Yoga with the natural benefics placed from the Moon. The code calls the rest of Ch. 35 a set of one-off royal configurations and does not mine it.
- The sources page lists exactly these uses and the one refusal.
