Jupiter transit in Virgo: the dates, and the house it falls in for each Moon sign

Virgo (Kanya) is Mercury's earthy, dual sign, and it lies directly opposite Pisces, which Jupiter rules. A transit of Jupiter through Virgo therefore puts the planet in a sign whose lord the classical scheme counts as its enemy, facing one of its own signs across the zodiac. This page gives the dates of that transit as this app computes them and reads it from each Moon sign with the engine's rule. Dates: when Jupiter is in Virgo

Every stay of Jupiter in sidereal Virgo beginning between 1990 and 2050. Rows in the same passage are separated only by retrograde loops over a sign boundary.

The 1992, 2004 and 2016 passages were single blocks of about thirteen months, each beginning around two weeks earlier in the year than the one before. The next passage is fragmented. Jupiter first reaches Virgo on 26 November 2027 while still in the middle of its Leo passage, stays about three months, and backs into Leo on 29 February 2028. It returns on 24 July 2028, reaches Libra on 25 December 2028, comes back on 29 March 2029, and finally leaves on 24 August 2029. Between first entry and last exit lie about twenty-one months, of which the three Virgo stretches make up about thirteen.

The split matters most for Moon signs whose verdict differs between Virgo and its neighbours. A Leo Moon has Leo as its 1st ("testing") and Virgo as its 2nd ("favourable"), so its verdict turns over on 26 November 2027, back on 29 February 2028, and over again on 24 July 2028. A Scorpio Moon has Virgo as its 11th ("favourable") and Libra as its 12th ("testing"), so the December 2028 to March 2029 Libra stretch interrupts an otherwise favourable run. For an Aries Moon the swing is milder: Leo is its 5th ("favourable") and Virgo its 6th ("neutral"), so neither side of the boundary is a testing position for it.

The exit on 25 December 2028 is computed for 23:29 UTC, already 26 December in India. Near this and the other boundaries, the calculator's degree-in-sign and its vakri (retrograde) flag are a better guide than its "about 365 days" label, which is a classical average for any sign.

Counted from your Moon: the house Virgo is for each sign

For Gochara, count from the natal Moon sign as 1 to Virgo. The engine reads Jupiter with the benefic rule: 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th favourable; 11th favourable for every planet; 3rd and 6th indifferent; 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th testing.

The Sagittarius row is where the engine and Advanced Predictive Astrology part ways. Virgo is the 10th from a Sagittarius Moon; the engine, following the source its code cites, calls the 10th favourable for a benefic, while the book's list for Jupiter (2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th) leaves the 10th out. The page reports both rather than choosing. The Cancer row carries the calculator's "intensified" flag, since Virgo is Cancer's 3rd. What the classical texts say

BPHS and Saravali in this library do not read Jupiter's transit through Virgo. Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II, "Research on Transits" (pp. 310-311), collects the rules that apply:

• Jupiter "gives good results in 2/5/7/9/11th" from the Moon: for Virgo, Leo, Taurus, Pisces, Capricorn and Scorpio Moons.
• Jupiter over the Moon sign is "said to induct a sense of fear and anxiety": the Virgo Moon.
• Jyotish-Tattvam (Vol. I, Ch. X, Vs. 25-26), quoted there, ties Jupiter in the 5th to the birth of a child: a Taurus Moon here.
• Transit Jupiter "opposition with natal Jupiter is not indicative of good results". Anyone born with Jupiter in Pisces has this opposition for the whole of the Virgo passage - a reading from natal Jupiter, which needs a birth chart, not just a Moon sign.
• A Tamil palm-leaf list puts Jupiter in the 3rd from the Moon among positions that "will produce intensified" results: the Cancer Moon.

The book treats Jupiter as the transit to consult for auspicious events and insists that the dasha be read alongside it. Nothing in these sources singles out Virgo; what matters is the house it makes from your Moon.

The sign itself: Mercury's earthy sign

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 13-14 describes Kanya as a hill-resorter, strong in the daytime, rising with its head, a biped sign with "grains and fire in its hands", Tamasic, ruled by Budh. Mercury is an enemy of Jupiter in the engine's relationship table, so Jupiter in Virgo is labelled as in an enemy sign across all 30 degrees, as it is in Mercury's other sign, Gemini. Here Jupiter crosses the last three padas of Uttara Phalguni, all of Hasta, and the first two padas of Chitra. The birth placement is described on Jupiter in Virgo.

Worked example: a Pisces Moon through 2027-29

Take a natal Moon in Pisces. Virgo is its 7th sign, Leo its 6th, Libra its 8th. Reading the split passage:

1. 1.25 June to 26 November 2027: Leo, the 6th - "neutral".
2. 2.26 November 2027 to 29 February 2028: Virgo, the 7th - "favourable".
3. 3.29 February to 24 July 2028: Leo again - "neutral".
4. 4.24 July to 25 December 2028: Virgo - "favourable".
5. 5.25 December 2028 to 29 March 2029: Libra, the 8th - "testing".
6. 6.29 March to 24 August 2029: Virgo - "favourable".
7. 7.From 24 August 2029: Libra - "testing".

For this Moon, Jupiter - its own sign lord - stands opposite the Moon sign during each Virgo stretch, and the rule calls each of them favourable. The example also shows a testing Libra stay landing inside the Virgo passage, from December 2028 to March 2029. It does not describe anyone's life; the transit is read with the running dasha (the Jupiter Mahadasha is one such period), and the Gochar calculator gives the verdict for a chosen date.

Is Jupiter in Virgo good for my Moon sign?

Does the first Virgo stretch, November 2027 to February 2028, count?

Yes. Whenever Jupiter is in Virgo the same house count applies, so the three-month first stretch carries the same verdicts as the later ones. Between 29 February and 24 July 2028 Jupiter is back in Leo and the Leo verdicts apply instead.

Is Jupiter debilitated in Virgo?

No. Jupiter's debilitation is Capricorn. The engine labels Virgo an enemy sign for Jupiter, because Mercury rules it.

Why do the engine and Advanced Predictive Astrology disagree for a Sagittarius Moon?

Virgo is the 10th from Sagittarius. The engine's source counts the 10th as favourable for benefics; the book's list for Jupiter is 2/5/7/9/11 and omits the 10th. The page reports both.
