Jupiter transit in Leo: the 2026-28 dates, and the house for each Moon sign

Leo (Simha) is the Sun's sign, fixed and fiery, and the Sun is a natural friend of Jupiter. Jupiter's next passage through it is about to begin as this page is written, so the dates below are the ones most readers will be checking. Dates: when Jupiter is in Leo

Every stay that begins between 1990 and 2050. The last row starts in 2050 and its end falls outside the window the tool computes.

The coming passage is a three-part one. Jupiter enters Leo on 30 October 2026, retreats into Cancer on 25 January 2027, comes back on 25 June 2027, runs ahead into Virgo on 26 November 2027, and returns for a last stretch from 29 February 2028 to 24 July 2028. The middle part is the longest, about five months; the gaps in between are Cancer and Virgo stays, not Leo. Added together, the three Leo stretches come to a little over a year.

Compare the three earlier passages in the table. Each was a single block of about thirteen months, and each began roughly two weeks earlier in the calendar than the last: 14 August 1991, 30 July 2003, 14 July 2015. By 2026 the entry has slipped to late October on the far side of a retrograde loop, and the passage breaks up. The 2038-40 passage repeats the three-part shape, with the Cancer and Virgo gaps falling in different months. Anyone remembering "Jupiter was in Leo from mid-2015 to mid-2016" should not expect the same clean year this time.

Two of those boundaries sit right at midnight UTC. The entry is at 23:53 UTC on 30 October 2026, which is 31 October in India. The return on 29 February 2028 is at 00:15 UTC, already the morning of 29 February in India too, so there the two calendars agree. Near any of these dates the calculator's degree-in-sign and vakri (retrograde) flag tell you where Jupiter is in its loop; its "about 365 days" duration is an average label.

Counted from your Moon: the house Leo is for each sign

The Gochara count begins at the natal Moon sign. Jupiter is read with the benefic rule: favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th; favourable in the 11th, as every planet is; indifferent in the 3rd and 6th; testing in the 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th.

Because the Leo passage alternates with Cancer at one end and Virgo at the other, the verdict for several Moon signs will switch back and forth through 2026-28. A Cancer Moon goes from "testing" (Jupiter in Cancer, its 1st) to "favourable" (Leo, its 2nd) and back. A Virgo Moon has Leo as its 12th, "testing", and Virgo itself as its 1st, also "testing", so its verdict stays the same across the Leo-Virgo swaps. What the classical texts say

There is no reading in BPHS or Saravali, in this library, for Jupiter transiting Leo. Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II, "Research on Transits" (pp. 310-311), supplies the general statements:

• Jupiter "gives good results in 2/5/7/9/11th" from the Moon - for Leo, Cancer, Aries, Aquarius, Sagittarius and Libra Moons. The engine agrees and adds the 10th, a Scorpio Moon here; the book's list does not include it.
• Jupiter over the Moon sign is "said to induct a sense of fear and anxiety" - the Leo Moon's case.
• Jyotish-Tattvam (Vol. I, Ch. X, Vs. 25-26), as quoted, ties Jupiter in the 5th to the birth of a child - the Aries Moon here.
• A Tamil palm-leaf reading lists Jupiter in the 3rd from the Moon among positions that "will produce intensified" results - the Gemini Moon, which the calculator flags.
• The book also notes, citing a 1993 magazine article, that "when Jupiter influences natal Saturn, natal Sun or 10th house it should be a period of gain". That needs the natal Sun's position, not just the Moon sign, and is not part of the engine's Gochara verdict.

The sign itself: the Sun's royal sign

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 12 describes Simh as ruled by Surya, Sattvic, quadruped, rising with its head, strong in the daytime, and calls it "a royal Rasi". The Sun is a natural friend of Jupiter, so the engine labels Jupiter in Leo a friendly-sign placement across all 30 degrees. Worked example: an Aries Moon through 2026-28

Take a natal Moon in Aries. Leo is its 5th sign; Cancer, the 4th; Virgo, the 6th. Following the split passage from the tables:

1. 1.1 June to 30 October 2026: Cancer, the 4th - "testing".
2. 2.30 October 2026 to 25 January 2027: Leo, the 5th - "favourable".
3. 3.25 January to 25 June 2027: Cancer again - "testing".
4. 4.25 June to 26 November 2027: Leo - "favourable".
5. 5.26 November 2027 to 29 February 2028: Virgo, the 6th - "neutral".
6. 6.29 February to 24 July 2028: Leo - "favourable".
7. 7.From 24 July 2028: Virgo - "neutral".

For this Moon the three Leo stretches are the favourable ones, and they are interleaved with testing and indifferent stays. The 5th is also the house that Jyotish-Tattvam, as quoted, connects with children. None of that is a statement about any real person with an Aries Moon. In practice a transit is read with the dasha in force - for example the Jupiter Mahadasha - and the Gochar calculator gives the reading for one date at a time.

Gemini, because Leo is the 3rd sign from it and the calculator's list pairs Jupiter with the 3rd from the Moon. The verdict for a Gemini Moon is still "neutral"; the flag is a separate output.

Is Jupiter strong in Leo?
