In short
In this app's computation Jupiter is in sidereal Cancer, its sign of exaltation, from 1 June 2026 to 30 October 2026 (UTC), after a short visit from 18 October to 5 December 2025, and returns from 25 January to 25 June 2027. From the Moon it is favourable for Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces Moons.
Of Jupiter's twelve sign passages, the one through Cancer (Karka) gets the most attention, because Cancer is the sign of Jupiter's exaltation. BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 lists the exaltation signs of the seven grahas and places Jupiter's deepest exaltation at 5 degrees of Kark, with its fall at the same degree of the seventh sign, Capricorn. This page gives the dates of the transit as this app computes them and the engine's reading for each Moon sign. On the graha: Jupiter in Vedic astrology. On the sign: Cancer, Karka rashi.
An exalted transit is still a transit: the engine's verdict for you depends on which house Cancer is from your Moon, and exaltation does not turn a testing house into a favourable one. The Gochar calculator applies the rule to your own Moon on any date.
Dates: when Jupiter is in Cancer
Every stay of Jupiter in sidereal Cancer beginning between 1990 and 2050. As of the page date (14 October 2026), Jupiter is in Cancer, in the second of the three parts of its current passage.
| Enters Cancer (UTC) | Leaves Cancer (UTC) | Then |
|---|---|---|
| 20 July 1990 | 14 August 1991 | Into Leo |
| 5 July 2002 | 30 July 2003 | Into Leo |
| 19 June 2014 | 14 July 2015 | Into Leo |
| 18 October 2025 | 5 December 2025 | Retrograde back into Gemini |
| 1 June 2026 | 30 October 2026 | Into Leo, then retrograde back |
| 25 January 2027 | 25 June 2027 | Into Leo |
| 16 September 2037 | 17 January 2038 | Retrograde back into Gemini |
| 11 May 2038 | 7 October 2038 | Into Leo, then retrograde back |
| 3 March 2039 | 1 June 2039 | Into Leo |
| 26 August 2049 | 10 March 2050 | Retrograde back into Gemini |
| 30 March 2050 | 19 September 2050 | Into Leo |
Up to 2015 the exaltation transit came as one block of a little over a year. From 2025 the pattern turns three-part: Jupiter dips into Cancer, retreats, returns for the main stay, crosses into Leo, retreats again and has a last Cancer stretch. The current passage runs 18 October to 5 December 2025, 1 June to 30 October 2026, and 25 January to 25 June 2027. Added up, Jupiter is in Cancer for well over a year across those pieces, but no single piece lasts a year.
The reason is visible in the first three rows. Each cycle, Jupiter reached Cancer about two weeks earlier in the year: 20 July 1990, 5 July 2002, 19 June 2014. Jupiter makes one retrograde loop in roughly every year of its passage, and as the entry date drifts, the table shows that loop eventually straddles the sign boundary instead of falling inside the sign. Once that happens, every passage for a while is fragmented - the 2037-39 and 2049-50 passages show the same three-part shape.
The exit on 30 October 2026 is computed for 23:53 UTC, which is already 31 October in India; a panchang giving the Indian date is not disagreeing with this table on that point. Near the boundaries, the calculator's degree-in-sign and vakri (retrograde) flag show where in the loop Jupiter is; its "about 365 days" label is an average for any sign.
Counted from your Moon: the house Cancer is for each sign
The Gochara count starts from the natal Moon sign. For Jupiter the engine uses the benefic rule: 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th favourable; 11th favourable for every planet; 3rd and 6th indifferent; 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th testing.
| Natal Moon sign | Cancer is the | Gochara verdict | Engine note (shortened) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 4th | Testing | Listed among the bad positions for every planet; steadiness over new commitments |
| Taurus | 3rd | Neutral | A classically indifferent position; also flagged "intensified" |
| Gemini | 2nd | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Cancer | 1st | Testing | More testing even for a natural benefic |
| Leo | 12th | Testing | More testing even for a natural benefic |
| Virgo | 11th | Favourable | The 11th is favourable for every transiting planet |
| Libra | 10th | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Scorpio | 9th | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Sagittarius | 8th | Testing | More testing even for a natural benefic |
| Capricorn | 7th | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
| Aquarius | 6th | Neutral | A classically indifferent position |
| Pisces | 5th | Favourable | Happiness, recognition or financial ease |
The table is the same shape for every Jupiter sign; what changes is which Moon lands where. In Cancer, both of Jupiter's own signs are affected differently: a Pisces Moon has the exalted Jupiter in its 5th (favourable), while a Sagittarius Moon has it in the 8th (testing). The Capricorn Moon - the sign of Jupiter's fall - has the exalted Jupiter opposite, in the 7th, which the rule reads as favourable. If you need your Moon sign, use the Moon sign calculator; the Moon sign glossary entry says why the Moon is the base.
What the classical texts say
BPHS fixes the exaltation; it does not, in this library, give a separate reading for Jupiter transiting Cancer, and Saravali's "Jupiter in Cancer" is a natal placement. For transit rules the page relies on the engine's source and on Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II, "Research on Transits" (pp. 310-311):
- Jupiter "gives good results in 2/5/7/9/11th" from the Moon: here Gemini, Pisces, Capricorn, Scorpio and Virgo Moons. The engine also counts the 10th (Libra); the book does not.
- Jupiter over the Moon sign is "said to induct a sense of fear and anxiety". For a Cancer Moon the transiting Jupiter is exalted and over the Moon at once; the engine follows the house rule and marks it "testing".
- Jyotish-Tattvam (Vol. I, Ch. X, Vs. 25-26), as quoted, ties Jupiter in the 5th to the birth of a child: the Pisces Moon here.
- A Tamil palm-leaf list puts Jupiter in the 3rd from the Moon among positions that "will produce intensified" results: the Taurus Moon, which the calculator flags.
None of the sources here says that an exalted Jupiter transit overrides the house count. BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 59-60 does rank the effects of a graha by dignity - "in exaltation gives fully good effects" - but that passage is about a planet's strength in a chart, and the corpus does not extend it to transits. Where the texts are silent this page stops.
The sign itself: the Moon's watery sign
BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 10-11 describes Kark as pale-red, watery, Sattvic and "strong in nights", rising with its back, ruled by Candr. The engine marks Jupiter as exalted across the whole of Cancer, not only near 5 degrees. On the way through, Jupiter crosses the last pada of Punarvasu, then all of Pushya and Ashlesha. For the birth placement, see Jupiter in Cancer.
Worked example: a Capricorn Moon through 2025-27
Take a natal Moon in Capricorn. Cancer is its 7th sign, Gemini its 6th, Leo its 8th. Following the split passage:
- 14 May to 18 October 2025: Gemini, the 6th - "neutral".
- 18 October to 5 December 2025: Cancer, the 7th - "favourable".
- 5 December 2025 to 1 June 2026: Gemini again - "neutral".
- 1 June to 30 October 2026: Cancer - "favourable".
- 30 October 2026 to 25 January 2027: Leo, the 8th - "testing".
- 25 January to 25 June 2027: Cancer - "favourable".
- From 25 June 2027: Leo - "testing".
The verdict for this Moon changes six times in about two years, and only by reading the dates closely can you tell which stretch you are in. That is the practical point of the example; it says nothing about what anyone with a Capricorn Moon will experience. A transit is read with the running dasha - the Jupiter Mahadasha is one - and the Gochar calculator gives the verdict on a single date.
Neighbouring passages: Jupiter transit in Gemini and Jupiter transit in Leo. Saturn's transit of the same sign: Saturn transit in Cancer. The opposite case, Jupiter in its fall: Jupiter transit in Capricorn.
- Is Jupiter in Cancer right now?
- Yes, as of 14 October 2026 in this app's computation. The current stay runs from 1 June 2026 to 30 October 2026 (UTC); Jupiter then enters Leo, returns to Cancer from 25 January 2027 and leaves on 25 June 2027.
- Does an exalted Jupiter make the transit good for everyone?
- Not in the engine's rule. The verdict depends on which house Cancer is from your Moon. Cancer, Leo, Sagittarius and Aries Moons get "testing", Taurus and Aquarius "neutral", the rest "favourable".
- Where exactly is Jupiter most exalted?
- BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 gives 5 degrees of Cancer as Jupiter's deep exaltation. The engine labels every degree of Cancer as exalted for Jupiter.
- Which Moon sign gets the "intensified" flag?
- Taurus, because Cancer is its 3rd and the calculator's list pairs Jupiter with the 3rd from the Moon. The verdict itself stays "neutral". See it for your own chart in the Gochar calculator.
- Why do other sources give a different date for Jupiter entering Cancer?
- Ayanamsa and planetary model differ between programs, and almanacs often give local time. This app's dates are UTC and may differ by hours to a day or two near an ingress.
