In short

The Jaimini system is a family of techniques named after the sage Jaimini: Char Karakas ranked by degree, Arudha Padas, aspects between signs, and the sign-based Chara Dasha. This app computes all four, mostly from the versions given in BPHS, and shows them beside the Parashari results rather than merged into them.

What the term means

The Jaimini system is the set of techniques attributed to the sage Jaimini. Where the Parashari system reasons mostly from planets, Jaimini reasons from signs: signs aspect signs, periods belong to signs, and the planets' main roles are assigned by how far each has travelled through its sign. Its four best-known tools are the Char Karakas, the Arudha Padas, Rashi Drishti and the Chara Dasha.

Where the term comes from

The project's library holds no text of the Jaimini Sutras themselves, and the engine says so where it matters. What the library does hold is BPHS, which gives Jaimini-style material in its own chapters: the Bhava Padas (Ch. 29), the Upa Pad (Ch. 30), the Char Karakas (Ch. 32) and the Char Dasha (Ch. 46 Sl. 158-167). The translator's note to Ch. 30 treats one Parashara sloka and "an identical Sutra from Jaimini" as the same rule. A later case-study book in the library lists "Jaimini Dasa" among the dasha systems in use.

How this app computes it

  • Char Karakas: the seven classical grahas ranked by degrees travelled in their sign, the highest becoming Atma Karaka. The competing eight-karaka view that adds Rahu is noted in the code and not implemented.
  • Karakamsa: the Atma Karaka's Navamsa sign.
  • Arudha Lagna and Bhava Padas: count from a house to its lord, then the same distance again from the lord, per BPHS Ch. 29.
  • Rashi Drishti: movable signs aspect fixed signs and the reverse, except the adjacent one, and dual signs aspect each other. The engine cites the Jaimini Sutras' standard formulation and publishes it next to planet aspects, never merged.
  • Chara Dasha: twelve sign periods from the Ascendant sign, direction set by the sign in the 9th house, each length counted from the sign to its lord.
