The 11th house is called Labha Bhava, the house of gains. Saravali also names it Aya, income. It is the house the classical texts use to answer one question: does effort come back as something you can keep? Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS) opens its chapter on it by saying that the auspiciousness of this house "will make one happy at all times". This page sets out what the texts say, chapter by chapter, and how this app computes it. To follow along, open the birth chart calculator and find the eleventh sign counted from your Ascendant.
How to read this page
The verses were written for a king's court. Gains appear as gold coins (Nishkas), elephants, horses and royal favour, and several verses name an age at which a sum arrives. This page reports them in the text's words and reads them as statements about the direction and ease of income, not as amounts or dates. Nothing here is a financial forecast or financial advice, and where a text mentions the body, that is a classical association, not medical advice.
What Labha Bhava signifies
BPHS gives the list in one line. Ch. 11 Sl. 12: "All articles, son's wife, income, prosperity, quadrupeds etc. are to be understood from Labh Bhava." Three of the five items are economic: goods acquired, income and prosperity. Quadrupeds were the working capital of the period. The daughter-in-law is there by counting: the 11th is the 7th house from the 5th, the spouse of the child.
Friends and elder siblings, the two meanings most modern readers attach to this house, are not in that verse. They come from the modern commentary printed with the Bhrigu Sutras, which lists: friends, society, community, favourites, ambitions, wishes, desires and their fulfilment, gains of wealth, success in undertakings, incoming wealth, profits, prosperity, elder brothers and sisters, recovery from illness, the dawn of fortune, and the ankles. This page keeps the two layers apart. When it says "BPHS", it means income and prosperity; when it says friends or elder siblings, it is reporting the later list.
BPHS adds two reference points. Ch. 7 Sl. 39-43 says that whatever is known from the 10th and 11th houses should "be also known from similar Bhavas, counted from Surya", and that the matters of the 11th should also be read from the 11th counted from the Moon. So the text asks for three readings of gains: from the Ascendant, from the Sun and from the Moon.
| Source | What it assigns to the 11th house |
|---|---|
| BPHS Ch. 11 Sl. 12 | All articles, son's wife, income, prosperity, quadrupeds |
| BPHS Ch. 7 Sl. 39-43 | Read also from the 11th counted from the Sun and from the Moon |
| BPHS Ch. 32 Sl. 31-34 | Its fixed significator (Bhava Karaka) is Jupiter |
| BPHS Ch. 29 | Its Arudha is named Labh Pad; the 11th from Lagna Pada shows the sources of gain (Sl. 22) |
| BPHS Ch. 31 Sl. 11-17 | An unobstructed Argala with Drishti on the 11th: "gains" |
| Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 26-27 | Named Aya (income) and Bhava |
| Bhrigu Sutras, Part II commentary | Friends, community, wishes and their fulfilment, profits, elder siblings, recovery from illness, ankles |
How the texts classify the 11th house
- Panaphara (succedent). BPHS Ch. 7 Sl. 33-36: "Dhan, Putr, Randhr and Labh Bhava are Panapharas." That is the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th. Saravali says the effects of planets in Panapharas "are felt in the middle age".
- Upachaya (house of growth). The same verse: "Sahaj, Ari, Karm and Labh Bhava are Upachaya Bhavas", the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th. Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 33 gives the same four and calls the other eight Anupachaya.
- It is not an angle (Kendra), not a trine (Kona) and not a Dusthana. This app's engine lists the Dusthanas as 6, 8 and 12 only, so a planet in the 11th is never penalised for its house.
A good house with a difficult lord
Here is the point most summaries miss. BPHS treats the 11th house and the 11th lord differently. A planet sitting in the 11th is welcomed almost everywhere in the text. But Ch. 34 Sl. 2-7, the chapter on lordship, says: "Any Grah, owning Sahaj, Ari, or Labh Bhava, will give evil effects," and adds that within each group "the significance will be in the ascending order", which makes the 11th lord the strongest of the three. The same passage says that if the 8th lord also owns the 3rd, 7th or 11th, "he will prove specifically harmful".
BPHS does not explain the reasoning, and this page does not supply one. What can be said is how the text uses the rule. Ch. 34 is about which planets become Yoga Karakas, that is, which lordships produce standing and ease. In that ranking, trine lords help and the lords of 3, 6 and 11 do not. Yet Ch. 22 and Ch. 24 praise the 11th lord in most placements. The two statements answer different questions: Ch. 22 asks whether income flows, Ch. 34 asks whether a planet's period is smooth. The dasha verses later on this page show the same split.
BPHS Chapter 22: the judgement of Labha Bhava
Ch. 22 is short, eleven verses, and every one of them is about the lord of the house. The test it applies is simple: where is the 11th lord, and in what condition?
- Sl. 2: if the 11th lord is in the 11th itself, or in an angle or a trine from the Ascendant, "there will be many gains". The same is said if the lord is exalted, "though in combustion". This is one of the few places where BPHS lets exaltation override combustion.
- Sl. 3: the 11th lord in the 2nd, with the 2nd lord in an angle along with Jupiter: "the gains will be great".
- Sl. 4: the 11th lord in the 3rd, with a benefic in the 11th.
- Sl. 5: the 11th lord joined with a benefic in an angle or a trine.
- Sl. 6: Jupiter in the 11th, with the Moon in the 2nd and Venus in the 9th.
- Sl. 7: Jupiter, Mercury and the Moon in the 11th counted from the 11th (which is the 9th house): "wealth, grains, fortunes, diamonds, ornaments".
- Sl. 8: exchange between the Ascendant lord and the 11th lord.
- Sl. 9: exchange between the 2nd lord and the 11th lord: "abundant fortunes after marriage".
- Sl. 10: exchange between the 3rd lord and the 11th lord: wealth "through co-borns".
- Sl. 11: "There will be no gains in spite of numerous efforts, if Labh's Lord is in fall, in combustion, or be in Ari, Randhr, or Vyaya Bhava with a malefic."
Sl. 4, 5, 6 and 8 attach figures: 2000 Nishkas in the 36th year, 500 in the 40th, 6000 owned, 1000 in the 33rd year. This app computes none of these ages or amounts and does not treat them as predictions. They do show how the author thought: gain is graded, and the grade depends on how many supports the lord has.
Read as a whole, the chapter gives three conditions for gains and three for their absence. Gains: the lord in its own house, in a Kendra or Kona, or exalted. No gains: the lord debilitated, combust, or in the 6th, 8th or 12th with a malefic. Note the wording of Sl. 11. It does not say there will be no effort or no work. It says effort will not convert. That is the precise meaning of a weak 11th in this text.
The 10th and 11th read together
The chapter before it links the two houses. BPHS Ch. 21 Sl. 8-10 says one will lead a happy life "if Labh's Lord is in Karm and Karm's Lord is in Lagn", or if the 10th lord is joined with the 11th lord in an angle. Sl. 5 says that if both the 10th and 11th are occupied by malefics, the person "will indulge only in bad deeds". Sl. 11 names four malefics together in the 11th (Rahu, the Sun, Saturn and Mars) as a cessation of duties. Work and its return are judged as a pair, which is why the 10th house page is the natural companion to this one.
The 2nd and 11th: what is held and what comes in
BPHS judges wealth from two houses, and Ch. 13, the chapter on the 2nd house, keeps pairing them.
- Ch. 13 Sl. 4: the 2nd lord in the 11th and the 11th lord in the 2nd: "wealth will be acquired". The two lords joining in an angle or a trine does the same.
- Sl. 5: the 2nd lord in an angle with the 11th lord in a trine from it, or aspected by or joined with Jupiter and Venus: "the subject will be wealthy".
- Sl. 6-7: the 2nd lord in an evil house, the 11th lord also so placed, and a malefic in the 2nd: "penniless". Both lords combust or with malefics is read more severely still.
- Sl. 8: both lords in the 6th, 8th or 12th, with Mars in the 11th and Rahu in the 2nd: loss "on account of royal punishments". In today's terms, penalties from an authority.
- Sl. 9: Jupiter in the 11th, Venus in the 2nd and a benefic in the 12th, with the 2nd lord joined with a benefic: "expenses on religious, or charitable grounds".
Ch. 41, "Combinations for Wealth", uses the 11th in a different pairing, with the 5th. Sl. 2-8 list seven "Yogas for Great Affluence". Each has the same shape: the 5th house is a sign of a given planet and holds that planet, while named planets occupy the 11th. Venus in its own sign in the 5th with Mars in the 11th. Mercury in its own sign in the 5th with the Moon, Mars and Jupiter in the 11th. The Sun in Leo in the 5th with Saturn, the Moon and Jupiter in the 11th. Saturn in its own sign in the 5th with the Sun and Moon in the 11th. Jupiter in its own sign in the 5th with Mercury in the 11th. Mars in its own sign in the 5th with Venus in the 11th. The Moon in Cancer in the 5th with Saturn in the 11th. This app's engine detects this family as "Dhan Yoga (Great Affluence)"; the yoga calculator reports it only when the full condition is met.
The app's own wealth scoring follows the same logic. Its career and money engine labels the 2nd as accumulated wealth, the 11th as "income, gains and networks" and the 12th as outflow, and gives the 2nd and 11th the highest positive weights. That is what you see on the career and money page.
Which planet rules your 11th house
The 11th lord is the ruler of the eleventh sign from your Ascendant. This table is plain sign-lordship arithmetic, not a quotation. The third column shows the other house the same planet rules, because BPHS Ch. 34 says a planet's result depends on all the houses it owns. You need your rising sign first; the Lagna calculator gives it.
| Ascendant | 11th sign | 11th lord | Its other house |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Aquarius | Saturn | 10th |
| Taurus | Pisces | Jupiter | 8th |
| Gemini | Aries | Mars | 6th |
| Cancer | Taurus | Venus | 4th |
| Leo | Gemini | Mercury | 2nd |
| Virgo | Cancer | Moon | none |
| Libra | Leo | Sun | none |
| Scorpio | Virgo | Mercury | 8th |
| Sagittarius | Libra | Venus | 6th |
| Capricorn | Scorpio | Mars | 4th |
| Aquarius | Sagittarius | Jupiter | 2nd |
| Pisces | Capricorn | Saturn | 12th |
Two rows carry a specific BPHS remark. For Taurus and Scorpio the 11th lord also owns the 8th, the combination Ch. 34 Sl. 2-7 calls "specifically harmful". For Leo and Aquarius the 11th lord also owns the 2nd, so one planet holds both wealth houses and the Ch. 13 pairings above reduce to the condition of that single planet.
The 11th lord in each of the twelve houses
BPHS Ch. 24 Sl. 121-132 gives one verse for each placement. (The translation misnumbers Sl. 124 as "12".) The wording below is close to the text, with the court language kept.
| 11th lord in | BPHS Ch. 24 | What the verse says |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Sl. 121 | Genuine in disposition, rich, happy, even-sighted, a poet, eloquent, "always endowed with gains" |
| 2nd | Sl. 122 | All kinds of wealth and accomplishments; charitable, religious, always happy |
| 3rd | Sl. 123 | Skilful in all jobs, wealthy, happiness from siblings; the verse adds a passing bodily complaint |
| 4th | Sl. 124 | Gain from maternal relatives, visits to shrines, happiness of house and lands |
| 5th | Sl. 125 | Happy, educated, virtuous, religious |
| 6th | Sl. 126 | Troubled by illness and enemies, harsh, living in foreign places |
| 7th | Sl. 127 | Gain through the spouse's relatives; liberal, sensuous, led by the spouse |
| 8th | Sl. 128 | Reversals in undertakings, yet long life |
| 9th | Sl. 129 | Fortunate, skilful, truthful, honoured by the king, affluent |
| 10th | Sl. 130 | Honoured by the king, virtuous, intelligent, truthful, self-controlled |
| 11th | Sl. 131 | Gain in all undertakings; learning and happiness increase "day by day" |
| 12th | Sl. 132 | Depends on good deeds, sensuous, many attachments, friendships with foreigners |
The pattern matches Ch. 22. Nine placements are favourable. The 6th and 8th are the difficult ones, and the 12th is mixed: the verse does not promise loss, it describes income that is spent or that comes from far away. Sl. 128 is worth a second look, because "reversals in undertakings" is the same idea as Ch. 22 Sl. 11, effort that does not convert, placed beside a statement of long life. The text holds both.
Other house lords placed in the 11th
The same chapter says what each other lord does when it sits in the 11th. Almost every lord gains something here, which is the textual basis for calling the 11th a house where planets do well.
| Lord of | BPHS Ch. 24 | When placed in the 11th |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Sl. 11 | Always endowed with gains, good qualities and fame |
| 2nd | Sl. 23 | All kinds of wealth; diligent, honourable, famous |
| 3rd | Sl. 35 | Gain in trading; intelligent though not literate; adventurous; serves others |
| 4th | Sl. 47 | Liberal, virtuous, charitable, helpful; the verse adds a fear of hidden illness |
| 5th | Sl. 59 | Learned, dear to people, an author, very skilful, with children and wealth |
| 6th | Sl. 71 | Wealth through enemies; virtuous, adventurous; less happiness from children |
| 7th | Sl. 83 | Wealth through the spouse; less happiness from sons; daughters |
| 8th | Sl. 95 | With a malefic: without wealth and unhappy early, happy later. With a benefic: long-lived |
| 9th | Sl. 107 | Financial gains "day by day"; devoted to elders, meritorious |
| 10th | Sl. 119 | Wealth, happiness and children; virtuous, truthful, "always delighted" |
| 12th | Sl. 143 | Losses; brought up by others; "will sometimes gain through others" |
Even the 6th lord, a Dusthana lord, is given wealth here. Only the 12th lord brings loss into the house of gain, and the 8th lord depends entirely on its company. Two verses (Sl. 71 and 83) trade income against happiness from children. That is consistent with the geometry: the 11th is opposite the 5th, and a planet in the 11th aspects the 5th by the seventh aspect every planet has.
Planets in the 11th house
Saravali has dedicated chapters for the 9th and 10th houses but none for the 11th. Its material is in Ch. 30, "Effects of Planets in Bhavas", one verse per planet. The Bhrigu Sutras give more conditions. The two are set side by side below; they agree far more often than for most houses.
| Planet | Saravali Ch. 30 | Bhrigu Sutras |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Sl. 12: interested in gathering money, strong, successful in undertakings; but without servants, "himself a servant", lacking affection | Sutras 96-102: income from land, more wealth through wealth and diplomatic talk; immense wealth if in own sign or exalted; heavy expenditure if with a malefic |
| Moon | Sl. 24: wealthy, many children, long-lived, intelligent, sharp, with attendants | Sutras 61-69: learned, helpful, wealth "without much effort"; expenditure if the 11th lord is weak, gains if it is strong |
| Mars | Sl. 36: virtuous, happy, courageous, with wealth and grains, "devoid of sorrow" | Sutras 86-89: prosperity through dexterity, involved in many activities; stronger with the 11th lord or with two benefics |
| Mercury | Sl. 48: rich, an amicable worker, learned, happy, long-lived, famous | Sutras 71-75: wealth through many sources; loss through wrong deeds if in a malefic sign or with malefics; wealth through right deeds if own or exalted |
| Jupiter | Sl. 60: many gains, conveyances and servants, virtuous; "limited education and few sons" | Sutras 50-53: learned, wealthy, widely known; effortless gains if with the Moon |
| Venus | Sl. 72: obedient servants, free of misery, "will gain abundantly" | Sutras 62-64: learned, very wealthy, owner of land; rightful gains with a benefic, questionable means with a malefic; no gains if debilitated or with a 6th, 8th or 12th lord |
| Saturn | Sl. 84: long-lived, "lasting riches", courageous, skilled in arts | Sutras 46-48: very wealthy "but there will be obstacles"; landed property; far better in own sign or exalted |
| Rahu or Ketu | Not covered in Ch. 30 | Sutras 29-30: children and wealth |
Three things stand out. First, no planet gets a bad verse. The Sun's is the most mixed: money and success, but a cold, serving temperament. Second, the two texts disagree about Jupiter's learning. Saravali says "limited education"; the Bhrigu Sutras say "learned". This page does not resolve that. Third, Saturn's wealth is "lasting" in Saravali and comes with "obstacles" in the Bhrigu Sutras, which is the same thought from two sides: slow and durable.
The commentary printed with the Bhrigu Sutras states the usual rule openly: the 11th "is an upachaya house where malefics give good results", and all planets "prosper in the eleventh house unless they are lord of the 6th, 8th or 12th houses". Saravali's own closing rule in Ch. 30 is different. It says malefics harm the houses they occupy other than the 6th, 8th and 12th, and benefics strengthen them. Yet its individual verses for Mars and Saturn in the 11th are entirely favourable. The specific verses, not the general rule, are what the tradition followed for this house.
This app's planet-in-house reading has a favourable and a testing sentence for every planet in the 11th. It picks the favourable one when the planet is exalted, in Moolatrikona, in its own sign or in a friendly sign, and is not in a Dusthana; since the 11th is not a Dusthana, the choice here rests on sign dignity alone. Each planet has its own page: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu in the 11th house.
Yogas that use the 11th house
- Benefics in the Upachayas. Saravali's Dhana Yoga verse: if all benefics are in the Upachayas, "i.e. 3, 6, 10 and 11", the person "will acquire much wealth"; two benefics give moderate wealth and one gives little. "These can be deduced from the Moon also."
- Malefics in 3, 6 and 11. BPHS Ch. 39 Sl. 48: all benefics in angles with malefics in the 3rd, 6th and 11th is a Raj Yoga even for a person "of mean descent". The longevity chapter uses the same arrangement for long life.
- The 11th lord aspecting its own house. BPHS Ch. 40 Sl. 2: if the 10th and 11th are free of malefic occupation and aspect, and the 11th receives the aspect of its own lord, the person becomes "a chief in the king's court". Sl. 12 gives gain "through royal association" when the 11th is occupied by its own lord and unaspected by a malefic, with a further condition on the Atma Karaka.
- A lord aspecting the Ascendant. Ch. 39 Sl. 29-31 names the lords of the 4th, 10th, 2nd or 11th aspecting the Ascendant, with Venus aspecting the 11th from the Arudha Lagna, as a Raj Yoga.
- The Great Affluence yogas of Ch. 41 Sl. 2-8, described above.
Two Jaimini-style tools in BPHS also give the 11th a structural role. In Ch. 31 Sl. 2-9, a planet in the 11th from any house or planet causes Argala (intervention) on it, and a planet in the 3rd obstructs that Argala. Sl. 11-17 says an unobstructed Argala with Drishti on the 11th house denotes "gains". And Ch. 29 Sl. 22 says the sources of gain are read from the 11th counted from the Lagna Pada, in the same way that expenses are read from the 12th from it. The Argala calculator, the Bhava Padas calculator (which lists the 11th's Arudha as Labh Pada) and the Arudha Lagna calculator compute these. For how to weigh any yoga, see what a yoga in your chart means.
Timing: when the 11th house becomes active
The dasha of the 11th lord
This is where the "difficult lord" rule returns. BPHS Ch. 48 Sl. 5-8, listing the Dasha of each house lord, gives the 11th lord: "obstacles in gains of wealth and the possibility of diseases". Sl. 18-20 goes further: the Dasha of the lords of the 3rd, 6th and 11th, of planets placed in those houses, and of planets joined with them "will prove unfavourable". A bracketed line then exempts the nodes: "Rahu and Ketu give favourable results in Sahaj, Ari and Labh."
Set that beside Ch. 47, which describes each planet's own Dasha. For the Sun (Sl. 7-11) the favourable conditions include being "in a Kendr, in Labh"; the Moon's list includes "Labh, Dharm, or Putr"; Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Ketu have similar lines, and the Antardasha chapters repeat "in a Kendr, Trikon, or in Labh" dozens of times. So within one book, a planet in the 11th is both among the best placements for its own Dasha (Ch. 47) and on the unfavourable list (Ch. 48 Sl. 18-20). The text does not reconcile them. Ch. 48 itself supplies the working method: it says the Dasha should be judged "after taking into account the placement of a Grah and his relationship of one Grah with the other", and that association with a trine lord turns a difficult lord's period favourable (Sl. 14-17).
This app reports the Ch. 48 theme as written. When the running Mahadasha lord rules your 11th, the reading names it as "gains that come with some obstacles, and health matters worth watching". Separately, the engine grades the Dasha lord by dignity and house: challenging if debilitated, in an enemy sign or in a Dusthana; good if exalted, in Moolatrikona or in its own sign; neutral otherwise. The Vimshottari Dasha calculator gives the dates, and what is a Mahadasha and Antardasha and Pratyantar explain the levels.
Transits through the 11th from the Moon
Transits in this app are counted from the natal Moon, not the Ascendant. Its transit engine marks the 11th from the Moon as favourable for every planet, with the note "the 11th from your Moon is classically favourable for every planet transiting it". That rule is checked before the per-planet lists, so although the natural benefics' usual favourable list is the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th, a benefic crossing the 11th from the Moon is still reported as favourable. Saturn stays in a sign for roughly two and a half years, so its 11th-from-Moon transit is the longest of these windows. The Gochar calculator shows where each planet is today, and the timing feature lays dasha and transit side by side.
How to read the 11th house in your own chart
- Find the house. Use the birth chart calculator with an accurate birth time. Houses depend on the Ascendant, which changes sign about every two hours; if your time is uncertain, read birth time unknown first.
- Find the lord and its second house, from the table above.
- Apply BPHS Ch. 22. Is the lord in the 11th, in a Kendra or Kona, or exalted (Sl. 2)? Or is it debilitated, combust, or in the 6th, 8th or 12th with a malefic (Sl. 11)? Most charts fall between the two, and "between" is a valid answer.
- Read the lord's house from Ch. 24 Sl. 121-132.
- List the occupants and note each one's sign dignity. Read them against the Saravali and Bhrigu Sutras rows above, and check which other lord each occupant is (Ch. 24).
- Pair it with the 2nd. Check the Ch. 13 conditions between the 2nd and 11th lords. The Shad Bala calculator shows how strong each lord is.
- Repeat from the Moon. BPHS Ch. 7 asks for it, and Saravali's Dhana Yoga is explicitly valid from the Moon. Your Moon sign is the starting point.
- Check the timing: is the 11th lord, or a planet in the 11th, running a Dasha or Antardasha now?
The full Kundali puts these on one screen, and the AI chat can be asked about your 11th house directly; it answers from the computed chart. How the positions are calculated is on the methodology page, and the texts are listed under sources.
Common misreadings
- "A planet in the 11th means wealth." The texts praise planets here, but Ch. 22 judges the house by its lord. Bhrigu Sutras 61-69 say it in one line for the Moon: expenditure if the 11th lord is weak, gains if it is strong.
- "The 11th lord is always a benefic for you." BPHS Ch. 34 says the opposite about lordship, and Ch. 48 lists its Dasha as obstructed. Good house, demanding lord.
- "An empty 11th means no income." No source says so. Ch. 22 has eleven verses and only three need an occupant. An empty house is read from its lord.
- "Malefics in the 11th are harmless." The individual verses are favourable, but Ch. 21 Sl. 5 and 11 read malefics crowding the 10th and 11th badly, and Bhrigu Sutras 62-64 say a malefic's company makes the means of gain questionable.
- "The 11th is the house of friends." That is the modern commentary. BPHS Ch. 11 Sl. 12 lists income, prosperity, goods, livestock and the son's wife.
- "The Nishka verses give the year money arrives." They are illustrations of grade inside a court economy. This app computes none of them.
- "Gains and savings are the same house." Income is the 11th, what is retained is the 2nd, and what leaves is the 12th. A strong 11th with a weak 2nd is, in this scheme, money that arrives and does not stay.
Frequently asked questions
- What does the 11th house represent in Vedic astrology?
- BPHS Ch. 11 Sl. 12 lists all articles, the son's wife, income, prosperity and quadrupeds. Saravali names the house Aya, income. The commentary with the Bhrigu Sutras adds friends, community, wishes and their fulfilment, and elder siblings.
- Why is the 11th called an Upachaya house?
- BPHS Ch. 7 Sl. 33-36 and Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 33 both name the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th as Upachayas. Neither verse explains the word. The practical consequences in the texts are that natural malefics are read favourably there and that Saravali's Dhana Yoga counts benefics in those four houses.
- Is the 11th lord good or bad?
- Both statements are in BPHS. Ch. 22 and Ch. 24 give gains for the 11th lord in nine of twelve houses. Ch. 34 Sl. 2-7 says a planet owning the 3rd, 6th or 11th "will give evil effects", and Ch. 48 gives its Dasha as obstacles in gains. Read it as a planet that can deliver income while its period is effortful.
- What if my 11th lord is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house?
- Ch. 22 Sl. 11 denies gains only when the lord is there "with a malefic", or is debilitated or combust. Ch. 24 reads the 6th as trouble from illness and opponents, the 8th as reversals with long life, and the 12th as mixed. Ch. 48 Sl. 14-17 adds that association with a trine lord improves a difficult lord's period. None of this is a fixed outcome.
- Which planet is best in the 11th house?
- The sources do not rank them. Every planet receives a favourable verse in Saravali Ch. 30 and the Bhrigu Sutras. The Bhrigu commentary says malefics fare better than benefics here; Saravali's verses for Venus ("will gain abundantly") and Saturn ("lasting riches") are the most unqualified.
- Does an empty 11th house mean I will not earn well?
- No text says that. BPHS judges the house mainly through its lord: its house, its dignity, whether it is combust and what joins it. Check those first, then repeat the reading from the Moon.
- How does this app decide whether a planet in my 11th is favourable?
- By sign dignity. A planet that is exalted, in Moolatrikona, in its own sign or in a friendly sign, and not in a Dusthana, gets the favourable reading. The 11th is not a Dusthana, so the house never counts against it. The reading names the dignity so you can check it.
- When does the 11th house give results?
- In the Dasha or Antardasha of its lord and of planets placed in it, read through Ch. 47 and Ch. 48 as above. For transits, this app counts from the natal Moon and marks every planet in the 11th from the Moon as favourable.
- Do I need my exact birth time to read the 11th house?
- Yes, for the house itself. Houses are counted from the Ascendant, which moves through a sign in about two hours. Without a time, you can still read the 11th sign from your Moon, which BPHS Ch. 7 treats as a valid second reference.
Birth Chart (Kundli)
