One feature, in detail

What your chart is built for, and the dated windows in which work and money move - each one with the placement that produced it.

What it does

This page describes ten reads that all run on one natal chart. Career DNA ranks the grahas that own your career axis - the 10th lord, anything sitting in the 10th, the Dashamsa D10 Ascendant lord, your Jaimini Amatya Karaka and your strongest graha by Shad Bala - and scales each one by how capable it measures here, which is Shad Bala for the seven classical grahas and dignity alone for Rahu and Ketu. The money side scores every Vimshottari Mahadasha, and every Antardasha inside a twelve-year horizon, on up to six named terms: house rulership, house occupation, aspect, dignity, Shad Bala and Sarvashtakavarga bindus.

The windows are timing for effort, not forecasts of money. An income window means the ruling graha of that period rules, occupies or aspects your 2nd, 10th or 11th house and is scoring in the supportive band or better, which is what tells you when to negotiate, launch or switch; a caution window names the opposite mechanism, so the response is to slow a commitment rather than to dread a date. Alongside them, the money personality read describes how your 2nd, 11th and 12th lords behave.

What it computes

  • Career DNA from your 10th lord, Dashamsa D10 Ascendant lord and Amatya Karaka
  • Income and caution windows dated off your own Vimshottari Mahadasha and Antardasha
  • Each 0-100 signal names the terms behind it, and says when a period is scored on fewer
  • Job or own venture, tallied from Saturn against Sun and your 3rd, 7th and 11th lords

What it needs

It needs your birth date, birth time and birth place; without a birth time there is no Ascendant, and all ten reads return unavailable with the missing input named rather than a thinner answer dressed up as the full one.

What it does not know

The caution read's Saturn-from-Moon layer - Sade Sati and Ashtama Sani - never appears on this page, because the route that builds it does not pass live transits to the engine.

In depth

The panels above say what Career and Money returns. This long read goes underneath them: the classical rules the engine leans on and where it leaves them, the arithmetic behind Career DNA and the 0-100 wealth signal, how to read each kind of result, one sample chart taken through the real engine, and what three minutes of birth time do to the answer. If dashas are new to you, read what a Mahadasha is and Antardasha and Pratyantar first. For the output on your own birth details, the public Career and Money calculator runs the same engine without an account.

The classical ground: houses, their lords and one divisional chart

The houses this feature reads

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS) Ch. 11 lists what each house is judged for. The 2nd, Dhana Bhava, covers wealth, grain, family, metals and precious stones (Sl. 3). The 10th, Karma Bhava, covers authority, place, profession or livelihood, honour, living abroad and - a detail usually dropped - debts (Sl. 11). The 11th, Labha Bhava, covers income, prosperity and goods of every kind (Sl. 12). The 12th, Vyaya Bhava, covers expenses (Sl. 13). The 7th lists trade and travel beside the spouse (Sl. 8), and the 3rd lists valour and journeys (Sl. 4). Four of them have their own pages: the 2nd house, the 10th house, the 11th house and the 12th house.

Ch. 32 Sl. 35-37 sorts the houses into families. The 6th, 8th and 12th are the Trika or Dusthana houses; the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th are Upachayas, the houses of growth. The 6th sits in both lists, which is why this engine gives it the mildest of its three negative weights. Saravali Ch. 33, on the 10th house, adds that livelihood is judged from the 10th counted from the Moon or from the Ascendant, whichever is stronger (Sl. 65), and that gains come in many ways when the Ascendant, 2nd and 11th hold strong planets (Sl. 82). This engine counts the 10th from the Ascendant only.

A house is judged through its lord

The texts read a house through the graha that rules its sign. BPHS Ch. 13 Sl. 1-2 says the lord of the 2nd in the 2nd, an angle or a trine promotes wealth, and in the 6th, 8th or 12th lets finances decline; Ch. 22 Sl. 2 says the same of the 11th lord and gains. Ch. 21 Sl. 2-4 reads the 10th lord: strong and in exaltation or its own sign it gives fame and good work, without strength it obstructs the work, and with a benefic or in an auspicious house it brings gain through patronage and business. Ch. 23 Sl. 1-4 softens the 12th: when its lord is with a benefic, in its own house or exalted, the spending is on good accounts.

Ch. 24 gives one sloka for every lord in every house. For the 10th lord: in the 2nd, wealthy and honoured (Sl. 110); in the 6th, skilful yet short of wealth and troubled by opponents (Sl. 114); in the 12th, worried in spite of skill (Sl. 120). This page prints none of those verdicts. It takes the pattern underneath - which houses a graha rules, where it sits, how strong it is - and turns it into arithmetic.

Dashamsa and the Amatya Karaka

BPHS Ch. 6 Sl. 13-14 defines the Dashamsa: each sign is cut into ten parts of 3° each, counted from the sign itself when it is odd and from the 9th sign from it when it is even. Ch. 7 Sl. 1-8 assigns power and position to this division. The engine builds the full D10 with the same routine as the Dashamsa D10 calculator but uses three things from it: the lord of the D10 Ascendant as a career signifier, the sign on the D10 10th house, and which points are vargottama - in the same sign in the birth chart and the D10.

The Amatya Karaka comes from the Jaimini material inside BPHS. Ch. 32 Sl. 3-8 names the graha that has travelled furthest through its sign the Atma Karaka, Sl. 13-17 names the next one the Amatya Karaka, and Sl. 9-12 use the image of a minister who cannot overrule the king. Ch. 40 Sl. 1, 4 and 6 tie the Amatya Karaka to the 10th lord and to standing at court. Ch. 32 Sl. 1-2 record that some authorities add Rahu; this engine ranks the seven grahas from the Sun to Saturn only, as the Char Karakas calculator does.

Timing, strength and bindus

For timing the engine uses Vimshottari, which BPHS Ch. 46 Sl. 2-5 calls the most appropriate dasha for general use; Sl. 12-15 give the order of lords and their years, and Sl. 16 the balance at birth from the Moon's progress through its nakshatra. Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 says a dasha gives its effects in line with the strength of its lord, and Sl. 5-6 that results are favourable when the lord is exalted or in its own sign and unfavourable when it is in the 6th, 8th or 12th, debilitated or in an inimical sign. Ch. 41 Sl. 16 adds that the lords of the 5th and 9th can give wealth in their dashas. Ch. 72 Sl. 3-6 bands the combined Ashtakavarga: more than 30 points advances a house, 25 to 30 is medium, fewer than 25 damages it. Each input can be seen alone in the Vimshottari Dasha, Shad Bala and Ashtakavarga calculators.

Where the engine leaves the texts

  • Amounts. BPHS will name a sum and an age - Ch. 22 Sl. 4-5 promise a number of Nishkas in the 36th or the 40th year. None of that is carried over: the engine has no branch that produces an amount, a rate or a date on which money arrives.
  • Strength. Ch. 27 describes Shad Bala as six families of strength for the seven grahas, the nodes excluded. This app uses a simplified 20-point version with its own bands - Strong at 13 or more, Weak at 7 or less.
  • Service. The engine treats Saturn against the Sun as service against authority, which rests on BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 14-15, where the Sun is of royal status and Saturn is the servant. Its reading of the 6th as the house of paid service is working convention, not a sloka in this corpus - Ch. 24 Sl. 114 reads the 10th lord in the 6th less kindly.
  • Bindus and professions. Where Ch. 72 bands at 25 and 30, the engine measures from 28, the 337 points of the combined chart spread over twelve houses. And it does not use the sign-by-sign livelihoods of Saravali Ch. 33 Sl. 66-80; its industry tables are its own modern wording of each graha's significations.

How Career DNA is assembled

Career DNA is a ranking, not a score. Five roles put a graha on your career axis, and each role carries a fixed weight.

RoleWeightHow it is found
Lord of the 10th house3The graha ruling the sign on the 10th, counted from the Ascendant in whole signs
Graha sitting in the 10th2.5 eachAny of the nine grahas placed in that sign
Lord of the D10 Ascendant2The graha ruling the rising sign of the Dashamsa
Amatya Karaka2Second-highest degree within its sign among the seven grahas
Strongest graha1.5Highest Shad Bala total in the chart
Source: CAREER_ROLE_WEIGHT in careerMoneyEngine.js. A graha holding two roles adds both weights.

The weight is then scaled by how capable the graha measures here: pull = weight x (0.4 + 0.6 x capability). For the seven grahas, capability is the Shad Bala total divided by 20. Rahu and Ketu have no Shad Bala and no dignity entry in this codebase, so their capability is a flat 0.5 and a node in the 10th always pulls 2.5 x 0.7 = 1.75; its row says "dignity only". The 0.4 floor is deliberate: a 10th lord with almost no strength is still the 10th lord. Pull ranks signifiers against each other. It is not out of anything.

Three more things hang off the same list. The fields beside each graha come from two tables in the code, both the engine's own wording of that graha's significations; a field appears only because a graha on your axis signifies it. Each graha is also read through the lord of the nakshatra it occupies, which is why two people with the same 10th lord get different second lines. The element of the 10th sign supplies the sentence about how the work is delivered. The Atma Karaka is reported apart from the ranking, as the condition the work has to meet.

Last comes a numbers check. Your Mulank and Bhagyank each have a ruling graha in this app's numerology tables. If either ruler is on the career axis the page says the two systems agree; if neither is, it calls that a split, not a fault. See Mulank, Bhagyank and Life Path for the arithmetic and when astrology and numerology disagree for what a split means.

The 0-100 wealth signal, term by term

Every dated period on the page is scored by one function. It takes the graha that rules the period and adds six terms.

TermHow it is computedRange

OccupationWeight of the house it sits in, at full value-1.5 to +2 in the wealth read

The six terms are added, the sum is held between -8 and +8, and the result is rescaled: signal = (sum + 8) / 16 x 100, rounded, so a sum of zero is 50. The bands are fixed: 72 and above strong, 60 to 71 supportive, 45 to 59 neutral, 33 to 44 mixed, below 33 testing. The code is open that the limit of 8 is an editorial choice, made so that ordinary periods do not bunch in the 40s. The number is an index of chart conditions, not a probability of anything.

Two details matter when you check a figure by hand. The dignity term combines the natural friendship between a graha and its sign lord with the temporary friendship of your own chart (BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 56-58): a lord sitting 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th or 12th from the graha is a temporary friend. So Mercury in Cancer, ruled by the Moon, a natural enemy, reads neutral in the sample because the Moon sits 4th from it - an enemy sign on a natural table alone. And a period ruled by Rahu or Ketu is scored on three terms, not six: the nodes rule no sign here, have no Shad Bala, and their dignity term is always 0.

How to read each kind of result

Income windows

A period is an income window only when two conditions both hold: its lord rules, sits in or aspects the 2nd, 10th or 11th house, and its wealth signal is 60 or more. A graha with a fine score that touches none of those houses is not listed, and neither is one that touches them from below the supportive band. Periods already over are dropped and the first six by start date are shown, each with its lord, dates, signal and one sentence naming the houses touched. A Mahadasha window is described as long enough to build something, an Antardasha window as short enough to reward one specific move. The Personal Year running when the window opens is attached from the numerology engine; the Personal Year calculator computes it. If nothing qualifies, the page says effort pays at the ordinary rate in this stretch - a result, not a gap.

Caution windows

The mirror list has its own two conditions. The lord must rule or sit in the 6th, 8th or 12th - aspect does not count here - or be debilitated, in an enemy sign or combust; and the signal must be 44 or lower. The second condition keeps the list honest: a 12th lord that scores well elsewhere marks an expensive but productive period, the case BPHS Ch. 23 Sl. 1-4 calls spending on good accounts, and it is not flagged. Every caution window carries the same advice - finish what is running, keep reserves liquid, take on no new fixed obligation you could not carry through a pause in income - so the page prints it once.

Investment timing

This panel re-scores the same periods with the investment weights, over six years instead of twelve, and shows the first six by date with a quality band each. There is no qualifying filter, so mixed and testing periods appear beside supportive ones. The Dhana Karaka line gives Jupiter's strength band; BPHS Ch. 32 Sl. 31-34 names Jupiter as significator of both the 2nd and the 11th house. The day-level rows come from the engine behind Muhurat: it scans the next 45 days and returns the three best-scoring moments for the Investment activity, crediting nine favoured nakshatras, a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday, the waxing fortnight, a Moon in the 2nd, 5th, 8th or 11th house from your Ascendant and a supportive Personal Day, and marking any overlap with Rahu Kaal. A row is labelled excellent at 78 or more and good at 62 or more. None of it names an instrument, an asset class or a return.

Job or own venture

The verdict is a tally. Each row below is one test on your chart; when it fires, its points go to one side and its sentence names the placement.

TestSidePoints

If the two totals are less than 1.5 apart - about one whole factor - the verdict is "Both viable". Both ledgers are printed in full, so the verdict can be argued with. It is a statement of structure: no employment history enters it, and it makes no claim about success on either path.

Money personality

The type is composed from measured bands. Hold is the Shad Bala fraction of your 2nd lord: tight at 0.65 or more, loose at 0.40 or less, moderate between. Release is the same measure for the 12th lord, read the other way up - a strong 12th lord means a strong outflow, so 0.65 or more is heavy. Risk tilt is the mean fraction of the appetite grahas minus that of the restraint grahas: appetite is Mars, plus Rahu at a fixed 0.75 when it sits in the 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th or 12th, plus the 5th lord when it is Strong; restraint is Saturn and Jupiter. A tilt inside 0.08 either way is balanced. Three risk bands by three hold bands give nine labels; the 11th lord is shown as the acquire axis but does not change the label. A behaviour line appears only after you have logged three money events with an outcome - what logging adds elsewhere is on the Accuracy page.

Side stream, skills and Dhan Yogas

The side-stream read uses a different axis on purpose: the 3rd house of self-effort and the 11th of gains, with weight 3 for each lord and 2 for each occupant, scaled by capability as before. It reports "not supported" only when both lords are Weak, and then calls a second stream a long deliberate build, not a prohibition. Skills take every graha that rules or sits in the 10th, 2nd, 11th, 6th, 3rd or 7th: a Weak one goes in the build list, a Strong one in the lean list, a Medium one in neither. Two empty lists are a real result.

Dhan Yogas are the two families in BPHS Ch. 41 Sl. 2-15: a graha in its own sign in the 5th with named grahas in the 11th, or a graha in its own sign in the Ascendant joined or aspected by named grahas. Both need an exact coincidence of sign and house, so most charts return none, and an empty list says nothing about your finances. The Yogas calculator lists every detected combination, and what a yoga in your chart means explains how much weight one deserves.

The two chips beside the headline

The confidence percentage and the risk level on the hero card come from a second endpoint, the one the Timing page also uses. Confidence is built from how complete your birth data is and how clearly the chart reads; risk from four named factors - dasha quality out of 30, Saturn's transit from your Moon out of 25, the strength of the 2nd-house lord out of 25 and active doshas out of 20. Being a different instrument, it can disagree with the wealth signal; the worked chart shows one case. The periods themselves are laid out under Dasha and Timing.

One chart through the engine

The sample is a birth on 14 August 1994 at 06:42 IST in Ahmedabad (23.0225 N, 72.5714 E), evaluated at noon IST on 5 October 2026 with no logged events. It is not a real person. The engine places the Ascendant at 2.33° Leo, so Taurus is the 10th house, Virgo the 2nd, Gemini the 11th and Cancer the 12th.

Career DNA puts the Sun first with a pull of 3.075. It holds two roles - lord of the D10 Ascendant, also Leo, and Amatya Karaka at 27.26° Cancer, second only to Mercury at 28.35° - so its weight is 4, and at 12.29 of 20 Shad Bala the sum is 4 x (0.4 + 0.6 x 0.6145) = 3.075. Venus, the 10th lord, is second at 1.676: debilitated in Virgo in the 2nd with 5.29 of 20, its weight of 3 is scaled by 0.559. Saturn is third at 1.393, on the axis only as the strongest graha, with 17.63. No graha sits in the 10th. The formal career lord is the weakest graha on the axis, and the ranking shows that instead of hiding it. See Sun in the 12th house and Venus in the 2nd house for the placements.

Now the running period, the Mercury Mahadasha of 18 January 2024 to 17 January 2041. Mercury rules the 2nd and the 11th: +4. It sits in the 12th: -1.5. From there it aspects the 6th: -1 x 0.4 = -0.4. It is in Cancer, the sign of a natural enemy, but the Moon sits 4th from it, a temporary friend, so the sign reads neutral: 0. It is combust, with 6.21 of 20 Shad Bala: (0.3105 - 0.5) x 3 = -0.569. The 12th holds exactly 28 bindus: 0. The sum is 1.531, and (1.531 + 8) / 16 x 100 rounds to 60 - supportive, just. The lord of both money houses earns four points for what it owns and gives back about two and a half for where it sits and how it is. BPHS Ch. 24 Sl. 24 is blunter about a 2nd lord in the 12th; the index keeps the rulership in view. Mercury Mahadasha covers the period itself.

The running Mahadasha and its remaining Antardashas inside the twelve-year horizon (engine output).

Fifteen periods were scanned - seven Mahadashas not yet over and these eight Antardashas. Three became income windows: the running Mercury Mahadasha itself, at 60, and both Mars periods at 75 - the Antardasha of July 2032 to July 2033 and the Mahadasha of 2084 to 2091. The Saturn Antardasha scores 65 and is still not an income window, because Saturn rules the 6th and 7th, sits in the 7th and aspects the 1st, 9th and 4th - none of the three income houses. Jupiter does aspect the 11th, but at 50 it fails the other condition. No period becomes a caution window: Jupiter rules the 8th, the Moon the 12th and Venus is debilitated, yet the lowest signal in the horizon is 48, above the 44 the list requires, so the page says nothing is flagged. The Mars window opens in a Personal Year 2, which this app words as a patience year.

The other reads follow the same chart. Job or own venture: 3.78 against 2, job-leaning - Saturn outweighs the Sun by 5.34 points for 2.78 and weak Mercury adds 1, while Saturn as a Strong 7th lord gives the venture side 2. Money personality: The Open Hand - risk balanced at a tilt of -0.016, hold loose with Mercury at 0.31, release moderate with the Moon at 0.54. Side stream: not supported, since Venus (3rd) and Mercury (11th) are both Weak. No Dhan Yoga. The numbers layer splits: Mulank 5 is ruled by Mercury and Bhagyank 9 by Mars, neither on the career axis, yet Mercury rules two money houses, so the money read reports an alignment the career read does not.

The hero chips read 57% confidence and Medium risk at 43. The risk working calls the Mercury Mahadasha challenging - a neutral sign, but in the 12th house - while the wealth signal calls it supportive. Both are correct outputs: the risk read looks at the lord's sign and house, and the wealth signal also credits what the lord rules.

Same date and place, with the engine re-run at each birth time.

At 06:43, one minute later, nothing changes except the dates. At 06:45 the Ascendant has crossed 3° Leo, the D10 Ascendant moves from Leo to Virgo, the Sun loses one of its two roles and drops to 1.537, and Venus leads Career DNA - while every wealth signal stays as it was, because the houses of the birth chart have not moved. Here the Ascendant gains about 0.22° a minute, so one Dashamsa lasts under a quarter of an hour. Eleven minutes earlier the Ascendant is still in Cancer and every house shifts by one: Mars becomes the 10th lord, Ketu sits in the 10th, Mercury rules the 3rd and 12th, and its Mahadasha falls to 43.

The dates move too. The Mercury Mahadasha begins on 18 January 2024 for 06:42, 14 January for 06:43, 5 January for 06:45 and 6 March for 06:31 - about four days for each minute, since the Moon's position sets the dasha balance. With no birth time there is no Ascendant, and all ten reads come back unavailable with the reason stated. The payload still names a Mahadasha worked from a Moon assumed at noon; for this sample it starts in April 2020, nearly four years early, and the page does not display it. Birth time unknown covers what still works without a time, and the Lagna calculator shows how close your Ascendant is to a boundary.

What this feature cannot tell you

  • The signal belongs to the graha, not to the stretch of time. A period is scored from its lord's natal condition alone, so every Mars period in the sample - a one-year Antardasha in 2032 or a seven-year Mahadasha in 2084 - reads 75, and an Antardasha's figure ignores the Mahadasha around it. A chart has at most nine distinct signals.
  • No transit enters the wealth signal. The caution read adds Sade Sati and Ashtama Sani only when it is handed live transits, and the signed-in route does not hand them over. The public calculator does, the risk chip has its own Saturn-transit factor, and the Sade Sati, Ashtama Sani and Gochar calculators show transits directly.
  • The Mahadasha row covers the whole 120-year cycle. The "strongest stretch ahead" on the gauge is picked from Mahadashas that are not over, with no weighting for distance - in the sample it is a Mars Mahadasha that begins at age 89.
  • The day-level and dasha-level rows are separate engines. The muhurat scorer counts a Moon in the 8th from your Ascendant as supportive for Investment; the dasha-level read gives the 8th its heaviest negative weight. The page shows both and reconciles neither.
  • Industry and skill lists are significations of grahas, not aptitude tests. Nothing here knows your education, your market or your employer.
  • No amount, return or instruction to buy, sell or hold appears anywhere. For decisions about money, speak to a licensed financial adviser.
  • Positions come from this app's own engine, not Swiss Ephemeris; the methodology page says how they are computed and checked, and the sources page lists the books behind the rules.

Where it connects

Career and Money is one view of a chart that other parts of the app read differently. Kundali holds the chart itself - the grahas, the houses, the divisional charts and the Vimshottari periods this page draws on. Life Blueprint reads the chart and your numbers together as one standing reading. When a window raises a concrete question, the Decision Engine returns a YES, WAIT or NO with the two chart terms behind it, and AI Chat answers from the same saved chart, running dasha and numbers.

No. It means the graha ruling that period rules, sits in or aspects your 2nd, 10th or 11th house and scores 60 or more on the six-term index. That is a statement about the chart, and the engine attaches no amount, percentage or likelihood to it. The intended use is to choose when to negotiate, launch or switch.
Why does the same graha show the same number in a Mahadasha and in an Antardasha?
The score is computed from the period lord's natal position, rulership, dignity, strength and bindus. None of those changes with the length or level of the period, so the figure is identical wherever that graha rules a period. Use the dates to tell the periods apart, not the number.
The verdict says Both viable. Is that a non-answer?
It is the answer when the two tallies are less than 1.5 points apart, which the engine treats as about one factor. Forcing a side at that distance would be reading noise. Both ledgers are listed, so you can see which tests fired and judge them against your own situation.
Can I use the investment panel to pick or time an investment?
No. It rates how supportive a dated period is for the act of committing capital, from house rulership and strength, and it names no instrument, asset class or return. It is not financial advice, and it has no knowledge of markets, prices or your circumstances.
How exact does my birth time need to be?
Exact enough to fix the Ascendant sign for the wealth signal, and to within a few minutes for Career DNA, because the Dashamsa Ascendant changes every 3° - under a quarter of an hour in the sample. If your time is rounded, check how the Dashamsa D10 calculator changes a few minutes either side.
What happens if I do not know my birth time?
All ten reads return unavailable and name the missing input. Nothing is estimated from the Moon or the Sun in their place. Your numerology does not need a time, so the numerology profile and the Numerology feature still work in full.
Does a debilitated graha on my career axis mean a poor career?
The engine does not say that. A weak graha on the axis lowers the pull of that signifier and puts its capability in the skills-to-build list - something you will be asked for and do not get for free. BPHS Ch. 21 Sl. 3 speaks of obstruction in work, not of its absence.
