In short
The Arrow of Emotions is reported when a birth date contains at least one 2, one 5 and one 8, ignoring zeros. The engine returns it together with the Arrow of Sensitivity, since the source book gives both names to the same digits. Of 22,280 dates from 1950 to 2010, 1,322 complete it, and it rarely appears alone.
The Arrow of Emotions is the middle row of the grid used for the Arrows of Pythagoras, the line through 2, 5 and 8. Its source calls that row the emotional plane and gives the full line two names, Emotions and Sensitivity; this app reports both together. Below are the engine's exact test, a worked date that happens to complete three arrows, frequencies from a run of the engine, and what the corpus books say about these digits. For the grid as a whole, read Lo Shu grid: missing numbers.
How the Arrow of Emotions is found: the rule
The arrows read the digit count made by the Lo Shu grid calculator: day, month and year without leading zeros, every digit taken, zeros discarded, each of 1 to 9 counted.
Those counts are placed on Erik Tao's layout from Numerology: Metaphysical Secrets (Ch. 5): 3, 6, 9 across the top (mental), 2, 5, 8 across the middle (emotional), 1, 4, 7 across the bottom (physical). The middle row is this arrow. Because 5 is the centre cell, this row crosses three other lines there: the Willpower column and both diagonals all pass through it.
| Row in Tao's layout | Left column | Middle column | Right column |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top (mental) | 3 | 6 | 9 |
| Middle (emotional) | 2 | 5 | 8 |
| Bottom (physical) | 1 | 4 | 7 |
The test is the same for every line: each of its three digits must have a count of one or more. Pass, and the line is reported; fail, and it is left out without comment. So this arrow appears exactly when the date contains a 2, a 5 and an 8. Repeats do not matter.
A full row returns two readings. Tao's positive Arrow of Emotions describes serious, intense people, some with a flair for drama that suits performers. His negative Arrow of Sensitivity, on the same digits, describes people who are easily hurt, take others' opinions to heart and avoid conflict. He gives no rule for which applies, and the engine does not choose.
Not the Emotional plane
The app's Lo Shu plane check has an "Emotional" plane, but it is 3-5-7, the middle row of the Lo Shu square. On the Lo Shu square 2, 5 and 8 form a diagonal, and the plane check ignores diagonals. So a full 2-5-8 never shows up as a plane.
Where you see it: the Lo Shu grid calculator returns the counts; the Numerology Profile calculator returns the arrows with a full profile (it needs a name); the free numerology tool shows the positive name, and the signed-in Numerology page shows both.
Worked example: 28 May 1970
This is the first date the content tooling found with Emotions when scanning from 1 January 1970. Every figure comes from running the engine on 2026-10-14.
- Write the date unpadded: day 28, month 5, year 1970. The digits are 2, 8, 5, 1, 9, 7, 0.
- Drop the zero. Six different digits remain, once each: 2, 8, 5, 1, 9, 7.
- Count: 1, 2, 5, 7, 8 and 9 once each; 3, 4 and 6 missing.
- Check the middle row: 2 present, 5 present, 8 present. The engine reports 2-5-8 with both names, Emotions and Sensitivity.
- Check the other lines. Two more are complete: 7-8-9 (Activity / Inactivity) and 1-5-9 (Determination / Resignation). Of the rest, 4-5-6 and 3-6-9 hold one digit each and 1-2-3, 1-4-7 and 3-5-7 hold two.
| Row in Tao's layout | Left column | Middle column | Right column |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top | - | - | 9 |
| Middle | 2 | 5 | 8 |
| Bottom | 1 | - | 7 |
That gives six names for one date, three positive and three negative, which shows why the engine's output is best read as "these lines are full" rather than as a verdict. The Mulank is 1 (28 gives 2 + 8 = 10, then 1) and the Bhagyank is 5 (2 + 8 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 0 = 32, then 3 + 2 = 5); neither enters the arrow test. On the Lo Shu plane check the date completes the Will plane, 9-5-1.
How often birth dates complete it
The engine was run over every calendar date from 1 January 1950 to 31 December 2010, 22,280 dates.
| Digits of 2-5-8 present | Dates | What the engine reports |
|---|---|---|
| All three (the arrow) | 1,322 | Emotions and Sensitivity |
| Two of the three | 8,267 | nothing for this line |
| One of the three | 10,255 | nothing for this line |
| None | 2,436 | nothing for this line |
About one date in seventeen completes the row: 1,140 of the 18,262 dates from 1950 to 1999 and 182 of the 4,018 from 2000 to 2010. The year affects this line the other way round from most: a 20xx year supplies the 2, so every one of the 2,436 dates with no 2, 5 or 8 falls before 2000, and none after.
The arrow almost never stands alone. It is the only arrow on just 168 dates. On 1,146 dates it comes with 1-5-9, the Arrow of Determination, because in a 19xx year the 5 that completes this row also completes that diagonal. Its other common partners are 7-8-9, the Arrow of Activity (234), and 1-2-3, the Arrow of the Planner (182).
What the books say
Erik Tao, Numerology: Metaphysical Secrets
Tao is the source of both names and both texts. He also grades lines: a full one shows the most dominant traits, two numbers some of the qualities, one number or none an area that needs work, and an empty line adaptability with no particular trait. The engine reports only full lines.
His first worked example completes this row. The text gives a birthday of 16 February 1889, but the date written into the grid is 02/15/1889, and the grid drawn matches the 15th; from it he reads Determination and Emotions as the dominant traits. The engine agrees for 15 February 1889, returning 1-5-9 and 2-5-8. For 16 February 1889 it returns nothing, since a 6 in place of the 5 breaks both lines. In his January 1998 example the row holds only an 8, and he includes it among the rows where work is needed.
Life With Number Magick: 2-5-8 as Determination
Rrachita Gupta's Life With Number Magick Part 2 (the numerology masters notes) reads arrows on the Lo Shu square, 4-9-2 over 3-5-7 over 8-1-6, where 2, 5 and 8 form a diagonal. It calls that diagonal Determination, describing patient, persistent people who wait for the right moment and then act. The lack of 2, 5 and 8 is its Arrow of Frustration, read as repeated setbacks (pp. 149-152). Its emotional arrow is a different line, 4-5-6, which it calls Emotional Balance.
The books therefore disagree twice over. The same digits are "Emotions" for Tao and "Determination" for Gupta, and Tao's Determination is Gupta's Will Power, 1-5-9. The word Frustration also moves: Tao attaches it to a full 4-5-6, Gupta to an empty 2-5-8.
Where the corpus is silent
Advanced Vedic Numerology's eight arrows sit on its own 3-1-9 / 6-7-5 / 2-8-4 grid, and none is 2-5-8. The Vedic grid calculator runs those. No other numerology book in the corpus discusses the Arrows of Pythagoras.
What the arrow cannot tell you
- Which name fits. Emotions and Sensitivity are given to the same full row, with no rule for choosing.
- Anything about mood or feeling that the date has not already fixed. Everyone born on 28 May 1970 has the same three arrows.
- Anything from the counts. One 8 or two 8s give the same result.
- Anything tested. The texts are one author's; the app does not predict from them.
The digits have their own pages: Lo Shu number 2, number 5 and number 8. The arrow it most often shares a date with is the Arrow of Determination; the column crossing it at the 5 is the Arrow of Willpower, and the row below it the Arrow of Practicality. The grid is defined under Lo Shu grid.
- Am I emotional or sensitive, then?
- The app does not decide. Erik Tao gives both names to the same full 2-5-8 row without a rule for choosing, so the engine returns both.
- Why does this arrow so often come with Determination?
- In a 19xx year the 1 and 9 are already there, so the 5 that completes 2-5-8 also completes 1-5-9. In the run over 1950 to 2010 that happened on 1,146 of the 1,322 dates with this arrow.
- Is this the Emotional plane in my report?
- No. The Emotional plane is 3-5-7 on the Lo Shu square. 2-5-8 is a diagonal there and is not checked as a plane.
- Another site calls 2-5-8 Determination. Who is right?
- Both follow a book. Life With Number Magick reads 2-5-8 on the Lo Shu square as Determination; Erik Tao reads it on his layout as Emotions. This app follows Tao for the arrows.
