In short

In this app an 8 is in harmony with 2, 6, 7 and 8, and that row sets the match label. The 8 is the number the books contradict most: the 1 and the 2 are its recommended anti pairs for marriage and also its listed enemies. The 4 is endorsed by every table except the one the label uses.

A Mulank 8 is anyone born on the 8th, 17th or 26th of a month. This app gives the 8 Saturn as its ruler and the title "The Strategist". Every one of the app's compatibility readings for an 8 is a lookup in a printed table, and for the 8 the tables are at their most contradictory. For the number itself, see Number 8 in numerology; for the two numbers compared, Mulank and Bhagyank.

How number 8 compatibility is worked out

numerologyMatch() makes two lookups in the harmony table. Row 8 is 2, 6, 7 and 8, and each of those numbers lists 8 in return.

  1. Mulank: is the partner's Mulank 2, 6, 7 or 8?
  2. Bhagyank: is the partner's Bhagyank in the row of the 8's own Bhagyank? A master Bhagyank is read at its root (11 as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6) for this lookup only.
  3. Both: "Strong". One: "Workable". Neither: "Needs effort". The note printed with the label follows the Mulank lookup.

The Numerology Profile gives a Mulank 8 the favourable numbers 2, 6, 7 and 8, the letters H, Q and Z, and thirteen favourable dates: 2, 6, 7, 8, 11, 15, 16, 17, 20, 24, 25, 26 and 29. The label appears in the numerology panel of the match tool and the Love Compatibility calculator.

Number 8 against all nine numbers

The compatibility feature places four book readings beside the label. Several of them are one-way for the 8, so both directions are given.

The anti pairs that are also enemies

Advanced Vedic Numerology gives the 8 two anti partners, 1 and 2, in its Pure Anti table on the marriage page (p.103), and the book says an anti pair "will be good". Its Number Compatibility table (p.37) lists the same 1 and 2 as enemies of the 8. Vedic Numerology Basic's planetary slide marks Saturn non-friendly to both the Sun and the Moon. The Life Path list calls 1 with 8 a challenge both ways, but 2 with 8 compatible both ways. So an 8 with a 2 is at once in harmony, an anti pair, Life Path compatible, an enemy, non-friendly and, as the Destiny grid has it, the lowest grade.

The 9: anti only when the 9 asks

The Pure Anti table's line for the 9 reads 8; the 8's line reads "2 and 1". The engine reads person A's line only, so a 9 asking about an 8 is told "a genuinely good pairing by this source's own rule", while an 8 asking about a 9 is told "a neutral read by this specific rule". The engine's note for the first case says the two are "each other's" anti combination, which the book's table supports from one side only.

Saturn's planetary row is generous one way: it lists 3, 5, 6 and 7 as friendly, while the Jupiter, Mercury, Venus and Ketu rows each call Saturn neutral. Like Rahu's row, it also lists the 4 and the 8 twice, as friendly "Distance" and non-friendly "Permanent"; the engine reports the friendly entry.

What the books say about pairing an 8

  • Advanced Vedic Numerology, "Number Compatibility" (p.37): friends 4, 5 and 6; neutrals 3 and 7; enemies 1, 2 and 9.
  • Its "Marriage Compatibility" page (p.103): anti partners 2 and 1 for the 8, and 8 for the 1, the 2 and the 9. The 8 is named in more lines of that table than any other number.
  • Vedic Numerology Basic, Life Path 8 "The Powerhouse": compatible with 2 and 4 only, the shortest compatible list of the nine; potential challenges with 1, 5 and 9.
  • Numerology: Metaphysical Secrets, Ch. 9: an Eight is most compatible with 6, 4 and 2.
  • The Destiny Number grid in Numerology Masters Notes (p.179), read on the Bhagyanks: a Destiny 8 is graded A with 4 and 22; B with 1 and 11; C with 3, 6, 8, 9 and 33; and D with 2, 5 and 7. It gives the 8 more D grades than it gives any A.

Across all of them, the 4 is the 8's most consistently endorsed partner: a friend in Advanced Vedic Numerology, friendly both ways on the planetary slide, compatible both ways on the Life Path list, named by Metaphysical Secrets and graded A. The harmony table that sets the label is the one table that leaves it out.

Worked example: an 8 January 1990 birth with three partners

  1. Person A, 8 January 1990: Mulank 8. Bhagyank 8 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 28, 2 + 8 = 10, 1 + 0 = 1. Row 1 of the harmony table is 1, 3, 5 and 9.
  2. Partner 2 January 1993: Mulank 2; Bhagyank 2 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 25, 2 + 5 = 7.
  3. Partner 7 January 1993: Mulank 7; Bhagyank 30, 3 + 0 = 3.
  4. Partner 1 January 1993: Mulank 1; Bhagyank 24, 2 + 4 = 6.

The 1 January partner is the clearest disagreement on this page. The harmony table returns "Needs effort", with the note "a pairing that needs conscious effort", and Advanced Vedic Numerology lists the 1 as an enemy of the 8. The same book's marriage rule returns "Mulank 8 and Mulank 1 are each other's classical 'anti combination' - a genuinely good pairing by this source's own rule." Both are shown, one under the other.

Note also which number each reading uses. The anti pair reads the Mulanks 8 and 1; the Destiny grid and the Life Path list read the Bhagyanks, which for this person is a 1, so the Life Path list treats them as "The Leader", not "The Powerhouse".

How often an 8 gets each label

For the 8 January 1990 birth, the engine checked every partner date from 1 January 1985 to 31 December 1999, 5,478 dates: 1,035 Strong, 2,696 Workable and 1,747 Needs effort. The partner's Mulank was in row 8 on 2,328 of them. These counts are for this birth date, whose Bhagyank is 1; another Mulank 8 would get different ones.

What number compatibility cannot tell you

Each reading here is two digits in a printed table, and for the 8 the tables contradict each other outright, one calling a pair good and another poor, on six of the nine partners: every one except the 3, the 4 and the 6. Some of the contradictions are inside a single book. The app shows each reading under its source and does not resolve them. For a chart-based reading, see the Kundli Matching calculator. Neighbouring pages: number 1 compatibility, number 2, number 4 and number 9; and Mulank, Bhagyank and Life Path for the inputs.

Which numbers are compatible with 8 in this app?
In the harmony table that sets the label: 2, 6, 7 and 8. The book readings are shown beside the label and do not alter it.
Are 8 and 1 a good match?
Advanced Vedic Numerology recommends 1 and 8 as an anti pair for marriage (p.103) and also lists them as enemies (p.37). Vedic Numerology Basic marks Saturn and the Sun non-friendly and lists 1 with 8 as a Life Path challenge. The harmony table does not pair them.
Why does my partner get "anti pair" and I do not?
If one of you is a 9 and the other an 8, that is the book's table: the 9's line names 8, but the 8's line names only 2 and 1. The engine reads person A's line.
Is 8 the hardest number to match?
Not by the harmony table: a Mulank 8 with a Bhagyank of 1 got Needs effort for 1,747 of 5,478 partner dates, fewer than the Mulank 7 example on its own page (2,076). It is the number the books disagree about most. Your two birth numbers are on the Life Path calculator.
Do any of these tables predict how a marriage will go?
No. Each one reports where two digits sit in a printed table. The app makes no prediction from them.

That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
