How this app decides whether a Mulank 9 pairs well with another number, why its harmony row and two of the books name entirely different partners, the one-way anti pair with 8, a worked example with a master-number Bhagyank, and how often each label comes up.

In short

In this app a 9 is in harmony with 1, 3, 5 and 9, and that row sets the match label. Two of the books name the 2 and the 6 as the 9's best partners instead, and neither number is in the harmony row. The 4 is the one partner all the Mulank tables put on the poor side, and no table is a verdict on a relationship.

A Mulank 9 is anyone born on the 9th, 18th or 27th of a month. In this app the 9 is ruled by Mars and titled "The Completer". Its compatibility, like every number's, is a lookup in printed tables from several books, and for the 9 the table the app uses for its label and the tables in two of the books point at almost entirely different partners. For the number itself, read Number 9 in numerology; for the inputs, Mulank and Bhagyank.

How number 9 compatibility is worked out

numerologyMatch() runs two lookups in the harmony table. The 9's row is 1, 3, 5 and 9, the same as the 1's and the 3's, and each number in it lists 9 back.

  1. Mulank: is the partner's Mulank 1, 3, 5 or 9?
  2. Bhagyank: is the partner's Bhagyank in the row of the 9's own Bhagyank? A master Bhagyank is read at its root for this step: 11 as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6. The worked example below has a master 11 and shows this.
  3. Both found: "Strong". One: "Workable". Neither: "Needs effort". The printed note follows the Mulank lookup.

The Numerology Profile reads the same row for a Mulank 9's favourable numbers (1, 3, 5, 9) and favourable dates (1, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12, 14, 18, 19, 21, 23, 27, 28 and 30). Its favourable letters are only I and R: in this app's letter table Z is worth 8, not 9, so the 9 is the one number with two letters rather than three. The label appears in the numerology panel of the match tool and the Love Compatibility calculator.

Number 9 against all nine numbers

The compatibility feature adds four book readings beside the label. Both directions are given where a table is one-way.

The 1 and the 3 are good in every table that reads the Mulank. The 4 is on the poor side of every one of them: an enemy, non-friendly both ways, and a Life Path challenge from the 9's side. The 2 and the 6 are where the books part company with the harmony table. Neither is in the 9's harmony row, yet both are compatible both ways on the Life Path list and both are the only partners Metaphysical Secrets names. Advanced Vedic Numerology splits them, calling the 2 a friend and the 6 an enemy.

The anti pair with 8 runs one way

Advanced Vedic Numerology's Pure Anti table (p.103) gives the 9 one anti partner, the 8. The 8's own line reads "2 and 1", without the 9. The engine reads person A's line, so a 9 asking about an 8 is told it is "a genuinely good pairing by this source's own rule", and an 8 asking about a 9 is told it is "a neutral read by this specific rule". The same book's Number Compatibility table (p.37) lists the 8 among the 9's enemies, and Vedic Numerology Basic's Life Path list has 9 and 8 naming each other as challenges.

What the books say about pairing a 9

  • Advanced Vedic Numerology, "Number Compatibility" (p.37): friends 1, 3 and 2; neutral 7; enemies 4, 8, 6 and 5. Four enemies is the most any number has in that table, a total the 9 shares with the 2 and the 6. The 9 is one-way about the 5: it calls the 5 an enemy, while the 5 calls the 9 neutral.
  • The same book's marriage page (p.103) asks couples not to share a Moolank or Bhagyank and gives the 9 the anti partner 8.
  • Vedic Numerology Basic, "Compatibility of Numbers": Mars counts 1, 5 and 3 as friendly, 4 and 2 as non-friendly, and 9, 7, 6 and 8 as neutral. The Moon's row returns the non-friendly entry for the 9.
  • Vedic Numerology Basic, Life Path 9 "The Humanitarian": compatible with 2, 6 and 7; potential challenges with 4 and 8. The book's worked marriage illustration in the same section pairs a Destiny 9 with a Destiny 3 and describes the two as complementing each other, although its own list does not name the 3.
  • Numerology: Metaphysical Secrets, Ch. 9: a Nine is most compatible with 6 and 2.
  • The Destiny Number grid in Numerology Masters Notes (p.179), read on the Bhagyanks: a Destiny 9 is graded A with 3, 6, 9 and 33; B with 2, 5, 7, 11 and 22; C with 4 and 8; and D with 1. That puts the 1, good in every Mulank table, at the bottom.

Worked example: a 9 January 1990 birth with a Bhagyank of 11

  1. Person A, 9 January 1990: Mulank 9. Bhagyank 9 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 29, and 2 + 9 = 11, kept as a master number.
  2. For the harmony lookup the 11 is read at its root, 2, whose row is 2, 4, 6 and 8. The Destiny grid keeps 11 as its own row. The Life Path marriage list has no entry for 11 and returns nothing.
  3. Partner 5 January 1993: Mulank 5; Bhagyank 5 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 28, 2 + 8 = 10, 1 + 0 = 1.
  4. Partner 1 January 1993: Mulank 1; Bhagyank 24, 2 + 4 = 6. Partner 2 January 1993: Mulank 2; Bhagyank 25, 2 + 5 = 7.

numerologyMatch, compareNumberCompatibility, grahaFriendshipCompatibility and chineseDestinyCompatibility, run 2026-10-13. No pair is anti or shares a Mulank.

The 1 January partner is the one pair on which the readings line up: Strong, a friend, friendly, a B. The 5 January partner is in harmony by Mulank and a friend on the planetary slide, but an enemy in Advanced Vedic Numerology's table read from the 9's side, and a D in the grid. The 2 January partner is "Needs effort" by harmony and non-friendly on the planetary slide, yet a friend in Advanced Vedic Numerology and a B in the grid. The Bhagyank of 11 decided the second check each time, by being read as 2.

How often a 9 gets each label

For the 9 January 1990 birth, the engine checked every partner date from 1 January 1985 to 31 December 1999, 5,478 dates: 1,112 Strong, 2,715 Workable and 1,651 Needs effort. The partner's Mulank was in row 9 on 2,505 of them, the same count as for the 1 and the 3, whose rows are identical. A different Bhagyank on person A would change the second check and the totals.

What number compatibility cannot tell you

Each reading is two digits looked up in a printed table. For the 9 they contradict each other outright on five of the nine partners (2, 5, 6, 8 and 9), and the harmony row and two of the books barely overlap. The app keeps each reading under its source and does not choose. A chart-based reading is in the Kundli Matching calculator. Neighbouring pages: number 1 compatibility, number 3, number 6 and number 8; and Mulank, Bhagyank and Life Path for the inputs.

Which numbers are compatible with 9 in this app?
In the harmony table behind the label: 1, 3, 5 and 9. The book readings are shown beside the label and do not change it.
Why do some books say 2 and 6 instead?
Vedic Numerology Basic's Life Path list (2, 6, 7) and Metaphysical Secrets (6 and 2) work from the Life Path number and their own lists. The harmony table groups the odd numbers 1, 3, 5 and 9 together. They are different rules, and the app shows both.
Is 9 with 8 good or bad?
Advanced Vedic Numerology recommends 9 with 8 as an anti pair for marriage, from the 9's side only, and lists the 8 as an enemy of the 9. The Life Path list has each naming the other as a challenge. The harmony table does not pair them.
My Bhagyank is 11 and my Mulank is 9. Which counts?
Both, in different places: the Mulank 9 for the first harmony check and the Mulank tables; the 11, read as 2, for the second check; the 11 itself in the Destiny grid. The Life Path calculator shows both numbers.
Does a Strong label mean a relationship will work?
No. It means two digit lookups both matched in one table. The app makes no prediction from it.
