In short

In this app a 3 is in harmony with 1, 3, 5 and 9, the same row as the 1 and the 9, and that table drives the match label. The books agree that 1 suits a 3 and fall out over the 5, the 6 and the 7. The app shows every table under its source's name and does not turn any of them into a verdict.

A Mulank 3 is anyone born on the 3rd, 12th, 21st or 30th of a month. Its ruler in this app is Jupiter, and its trait title "The Communicator". Compatibility for a 3 is a matter of finding a partner's number in a printed table, and this app keeps five tables from different books for it. What the 3 itself is said to mean is on Number 3 in numerology; the two birth numbers being compared are explained under Mulank and Bhagyank.

How number 3 compatibility is worked out

The match label is computed by numerologyMatch(). The harmony row for 3 is 1, 3, 5 and 9, identical to the rows for 1 and 9, and each of those numbers lists 3 back. The function runs two lookups and combines them:

  1. Is the partner's Mulank in row 3? That is, is it 1, 3, 5 or 9?
  2. Is the partner's Bhagyank in the row of the 3's own Bhagyank? A master Bhagyank (11, 22, 33) is read at its root, 2, 4 or 6, for this lookup only.
  3. Two yeses give "Strong", one gives "Workable", none gives "Needs effort". The printed note is chosen by the Mulank lookup alone.

In the Numerology Profile the same row gives a Mulank 3 its favourable numbers (1, 3, 5, 9) and favourable dates (1, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12, 14, 18, 19, 21, 23, 27, 28 and 30), along with the letters C, L and U, whose value in this app's letter table is 3. The label appears in the numerology panel of the free match tool and the Love Compatibility calculator.

The logged-in compatibility feature shows four book tables beside the label. Where a table is one-way, both directions are given.

Engine output, 2026-10-13. AVN = Advanced Vedic Numerology. The Life Path list is for Life Path numbers; it is mutual for every partner of 3 and is shown for comparison.

Only the 1 is on the good side of every table. The 9 is a friend or in harmony in three tables, though Jupiter's own row calls Mars merely neutral while Mars calls Jupiter a friend. The 5 divides the books: in harmony, friendly and Life Path compatible, but an enemy in Advanced Vedic Numerology. The 6 divides them more sharply still.

The 7: one planetary row, two answers

Jupiter's row in Vedic Numerology Basic lists Ketu, the 7, twice: once among the friends with the gloss "Wisdom", and once among the neutrals with the gloss "Not for Success". The engine keeps both entries as printed. When it has to give a single answer for a pair, it tests the friendly list first, so a 3 with a 7 comes out "friendly". The second gloss is still in the table, and a reader of the slide would see both.

What the books say about pairing a 3

  • Advanced Vedic Numerology, "Number Compatibility" (p.37): friends 1, 2 and 9; neutrals 7, 8 and 4; enemies 5 and 6.
  • The same book's "Marriage Compatibility" (p.103) prints 3 with 6, and 6 with 3, as a pure anti pair, which it calls good for marriage. So the one book calls the 6 an enemy of the 3 on one page and its recommended marriage partner on another. The engine follows each page in its own place.
  • Vedic Numerology Basic, "Compatibility of Numbers": Jupiter counts 1, 5, 3 and 2 as friendly (and 7, as above), 4, 8 and 9 as neutral, and Venus, the 6, as non-friendly, glossed "Daitya Guru", the classical name for Venus as teacher of the asuras.
  • The same book's Marriage Compatibility section calls Life Path 3 "The Communicator", compatible with 1, 5 and 6, and lists potential challenges with 4 and 7. That puts the 6 on the good side in the very book whose planetary slide puts it on the poor side.
  • Numerology: Metaphysical Secrets, Ch. 9, says a Three is most compatible with 7, 5 and 1. On the 7 it says the opposite of Vedic Numerology Basic's marriage list; on the 5 and the 1 the two agree.

The Destiny Number grid in Numerology Masters Notes (p.179), read on the two Bhagyanks, grades a Destiny 3 A with 3, 6, 9 and 33; B with 2 and 22; C with 4, 5, 7, 8 and 11; and D with 1. It is the only table that puts the 1 at the bottom for a 3, and like the anti-combination it puts the 6 at the top.

Worked example: a 3 January 1990 birth with three partners

  1. Person A, 3 January 1990. Mulank 3 (the day). Bhagyank: 3 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 23, and 2 + 3 = 5. Row 5 of the harmony table is 1, 3, 5, 6 and 9.
  2. Partner 3 January 1993: Mulank 3; Bhagyank 3 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 26, 2 + 6 = 8.
  3. Partner 1 January 1993: Mulank 1; Bhagyank 1 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 24, 2 + 4 = 6.
  4. Partner 2 January 1993: Mulank 2; Bhagyank 2 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 25, 2 + 5 = 7.

The third pair makes the point most clearly. The harmony table finds neither the Mulanks 3 and 2 nor the Bhagyanks 5 and 7 in each other's rows, so the label is "Needs effort". Advanced Vedic Numerology calls the 2 a friend of the 3, the planetary slide marks Jupiter and the Moon friendly to each other, and Vedic Numerology Basic's Life Path list, reading the Bhagyanks 5 and 7, marks the pair compatible in both directions. The second pair runs the other way: the strongest label, an average Chinese grade, and a Life Path list on which the 6 names the 5 as a challenge while the 5 does not mention the 6 at all.

How often a 3 gets each label

With the 3 January 1990 birth fixed, the engine checked every partner date from 1 January 1985 to 31 December 1999, 5,478 in all: 1,389 came out Strong, 2,771 Workable and 1,318 Needs effort. The partner's Mulank was in the 3's row on 2,505 dates. A Bhagyank of 5 helps here, because row 5 is one of the two longest in the table, with five numbers (the other is row 6). Another Mulank 3 with a different Bhagyank would get different counts.

What number compatibility cannot tell you

These are digit lookups in printed tables, and for a 3 they contradict each other outright, one calling a pair good and another poor, on four of the nine partners: the 3 itself, the 5, the 6 and the 7. The app does not average them or rank them. A chart-based comparison is in the Kundli Matching calculator. Neighbouring pages: number 1 compatibility, number 5, number 6 and number 7. The Mulank, Bhagyank and Life Path page explains which number each table reads.

Which numbers suit a 3 in this app?
In the harmony table that sets the match label: 1, 3, 5 and 9. The book tables shown beside it are separate readings, not part of the label.
Are 3 and 6 compatible?
The books contradict each other, and in two cases themselves. Advanced Vedic Numerology calls 6 an enemy of 3 (p.37) and also the recommended anti pair for marriage (p.103). Vedic Numerology Basic marks Venus non-friendly to Jupiter on one slide and Life Path 3 compatible with 6 in its marriage section. The harmony table does not list 6 for a 3.
Why does the app say 3 and 7 are friendly when a book says "Not for Success"?
Jupiter's row in Vedic Numerology Basic lists the 7 under both friendly and neutral, with those two glosses. The engine keeps both and, when asked for one answer, reports the friendly entry because it checks that list first.
Two people born on the 12th and the 30th. Are they the same number?
Yes. 12 reduces to 1 + 2 = 3 and 30 to 3 + 0 = 3, so both are Mulank 3. The harmony table calls that a match; the anti-combination flags a shared Mulank as one to avoid. The Life Path calculator shows both of your birth numbers.
Is "Strong" a promise that a relationship will work?
No. It means both of a pair of digit lookups found a match in one table. Nothing else about two people enters the calculation.
