How this app decides whether a Mulank 4 pairs well with another number, why the 7 and 8 come out well in nearly every table while the 2 splits them, the one-way anti-combination with 2, a worked example, and how often each label comes up.

In short

In this app a 4 is in harmony with 2, 4, 6 and 7, and that table sets the match label. Across the books the 7 and the 8 come out best for a 4 and the 2 is the most disputed partner. One book's anti pair for the 4 is one-way, so a 4 and a 2 can get different answers depending on who asks.

A Mulank 4 is anyone born on the 4th, 13th, 22nd or 31st of a month. In this app the 4 is ruled by Rahu and titled "The Builder". Its compatibility is a question about where a partner's number sits in each of five printed tables, and for the 4 those tables agree on more than usual, with two sharp exceptions. For the number itself see Number 4 in numerology; for the day-of-birth number, the Mulank entry.

How number 4 compatibility is worked out

numerologyMatch() gives the label. The harmony row for 4 is 2, 4, 6 and 7, and each of those numbers lists the 4 in its own row, so the lookup is symmetric. The steps:

  1. Mulank: is the partner's Mulank 2, 4, 6 or 7?
  2. Bhagyank: is the partner's Bhagyank in the row of the 4's own Bhagyank? Masters are read at their root for this lookup: 11 as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6.
  3. Both yes: "Strong". One: "Workable". Neither: "Needs effort". The printed note follows the Mulank lookup only.

The Numerology Profile reads the same row for a Mulank 4's favourable numbers (2, 4, 6, 7) and favourable dates (2, 4, 6, 7, 11, 13, 15, 16, 20, 22, 24, 25, 29 and 31). The label is printed in the numerology panel of the match tool and the Love Compatibility calculator.

Number 4 against all nine numbers

The compatibility feature adds four book readings. For the 4, two of them are one-way in places, and the table shows both directions.

Engine output, 2026-10-13. AVN = Advanced Vedic Numerology. The Life Path list is for Life Path numbers and is shown for comparison.

The 7 is good in every table that names it. The 8 is good in every table except the harmony table, which simply leaves it out. The 6 is good everywhere it is mentioned. At the other end, the 9 is an enemy, non-friendly and, from the 9's side, a Life Path challenge, so it is the one partner the books agree is poor for a 4. The 2 is where they split.

The anti pair that only works one way

Advanced Vedic Numerology's Pure Anti table (p.103) has one line per number. The 4's line reads 2. The 2's line reads 8, not 4. The engine stores the table as printed and marriageAntiMatch() checks only person A's line. So when a 4 asks about a 2, the answer is "a genuinely good pairing by this source's own rule"; when a 2 asks about a 4, it is "a neutral read". On the compatibility feature the reader is person A. The harmony table, by contrast, is symmetric for every pair involving 4.

Rahu and Saturn: friends at a distance, permanent enemies

Vedic Numerology Basic's planetary slide prints Rahu's row with the 4 and the 8 in two columns at once: friendly with the gloss "Distance", and non-friendly with the gloss "Permanent". Saturn's row does the same. The engine keeps all four entries but, asked for one answer, checks the friendly list first, so 4 with 4 and 4 with 8 come out "friendly". The slide also gives Rahu its own name for the planet, Uranus, which the engine records without using.

What the books say about pairing a 4

  • Advanced Vedic Numerology, "Number Compatibility" (p.37): the 4's friends are 5, 6, 7 and 8, the longest friend list in that table; 3 and 1 are neutral; 2 and 9 are enemies.
  • Its "Marriage Compatibility" page (p.103) asks couples not to share a Moolank or Bhagyank and recommends the anti pair: for the 4, the 2.
  • Vedic Numerology Basic, Life Path 4 "The Builder": compatible with 2, 7 and 8; potential challenges with 3 and 5. Its planetary slide gives Rahu 7, 1, 5 and 6 as friends, 2 and 9 as non-friendly and 3 as neutral.
  • Numerology: Metaphysical Secrets, Ch. 9: a Four is most compatible with 8, 7 and 1. It agrees with Vedic Numerology Basic on the 7 and 8 and differs on the third name, 1 instead of 2.
  • Metaphysical Secrets gives Master Number Twenty-Two, which it writes as "Twenty-Two (4)", exactly the same partners as the Four: 8, 7 and 1. This app treats a Bhagyank of 22 the same way for the harmony lookup, reading it as 4.
  • Numerology Made Easy (William Mykian), Ch. 12, does not rank partners for any single number. It compares five numbers per person, from the name and the birth date, and says the aim is a chart that will "allow" a relationship to work rather than one that will "make" it work.
  • The Destiny Number grid of Numerology Masters Notes (p.179), read on the Bhagyanks: a Destiny 4 is graded A with 1, 2, 7 and 8; B with 4, 6, 22 and 33; C with 3, 9 and 11; and D with 5.

Put together, the 7 and the 8 are endorsed by at least four sources each; the 5 is a friend in two tables and a challenge or the weakest grade in two others; and the 2 is recommended by four readings and rejected by two.

Worked example: a 4 January 1990 birth with three partners

  1. Person A, 4 January 1990: Mulank 4. Bhagyank 4 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 24, and 2 + 4 = 6. Row 6 of the harmony table is 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8.
  2. Partner 1 January 1993: Mulank 1; Bhagyank 24, so 6.
  3. Partner 6 January 1993: Mulank 6; Bhagyank 6 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 29, and 2 + 9 = 11, kept as a master number 11. For the harmony lookup it is read as 2.
  4. Partner 5 January 1993: Mulank 5; Bhagyank 28, 2 + 8 = 10, 1 + 0 = 1.

numerologyMatch, compareNumberCompatibility, chineseDestinyCompatibility and lifePathMarriageCompatibility, run 2026-10-13. None of the three is an anti pair for the 4.

The second partner is the cleanest case: the Mulanks 4 and 6 are in harmony, the Bhagyank 11 is read as 2 and found in row 6, and Advanced Vedic Numerology calls the 6 a friend of the 4. The third partner shows the opposite: "Needs effort" from the harmony table, yet a friend in Advanced Vedic Numerology. The first shows a label carried entirely by two people sharing a Bhagyank of 6, which the Chinese grid grades best.

How often a 4 gets each label

For the 4 January 1990 birth, the engine checked every partner date from 1 January 1985 to 31 December 1999, 5,478 dates: 1,361 Strong, 2,753 Workable and 1,364 Needs effort. On 2,433 of them the partner's Mulank alone was in the 4's row. The counts depend on person A's Bhagyank as well as the Mulank, so they describe this birth date, not every Mulank 4.

What number compatibility cannot tell you

Every reading here is two digits looked up in a table someone printed. The tables disagree, one of them changes its answer depending on who is person A, and none of them looks at anything else. The app labels each with its source and leaves the weighing to the reader. For a chart-based comparison, see the Kundli Matching calculator. Neighbouring pages: number 2 compatibility, number 7, number 8 and number 9; and Mulank, Bhagyank and Life Path for the numbers being compared.

Which numbers are compatible with 4 in this app?
In the harmony table that sets the label: 2, 4, 6 and 7. Advanced Vedic Numerology's friends for 4 are 5, 6, 7 and 8; the two lists share only the 6 and the 7.
Why do I get a different anti-combination answer from my partner?
Because the source table is one-way for the 4 and the 2. Its line for 4 reads 2, but its line for 2 reads 8. The engine reads person A's line, so the answer depends on whose account the comparison is run from.
Are 4 and 8 a good pair?
Most tables say so: friends in Advanced Vedic Numerology, compatible in the Life Path list, A in the Destiny grid, and named by Metaphysical Secrets. The harmony table does not list the 8 for a 4, so the match label will not count it.
My Bhagyank is 22. How is that read?
As 4 for the harmony lookup, as its own 22 row in the Destiny grid, and not at all in the Life Path marriage list, which covers 1 to 9. See master number 22 and the Life Path calculator.
Does a Needs effort label predict trouble?
No. It reports that two digit lookups found no match in one table. The app draws no prediction from it.
