The 10th is the strongest kendra and the house of work, authority and standing. Rahu, the Moon's ascending node, owns no sign and has no dignity in this app, so in the 10th it is read through the house, its company, and the BPHS rule that lets a node in a kendra become a Yoga Karaka. The 10th is one of the houses the classical texts read well for Rahu more often than not, and also the one where this app's career feature gives Rahu a role of its own. It is also a house where the old texts contradict each other sharply, and this page sets the contradictions out rather than averaging them away. For the node, see Rahu in Vedic astrology; for the house, the 10th house (Karma Bhava).
Where these citations come from
Every classical line on this page was re-read in the source text: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS) in its English translation, the Bhrigu Sutras with their translator's notes, Saravali, S. S. Chatterjee's Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II (2000) and Rama R. Rao's Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (1994). Phaladeepika, Chamatkar Chintamani and Uttara Kalamrita are not in this app's library; their lines are cited as the Bhrigu Sutras quote them, with page numbers. Harsh lines are named briefly as what a text says, not as a forecast.
The house Rahu occupies here
BPHS Ch. 11 Sl. 11 lists the 10th house's indications as "royalty (authority), place, profession (livelihood), honour, father, living in foreign lands and debts". Ch. 21 then judges the house in 22 slokas: paternal happiness, fame, good or bad deeds, obstruction in work, royal patronage and business, and combinations for fame. Its last sloka says the rest is to be guessed from the relationship of the Lagna lord and the 10th lord. Living in foreign lands is in the 10th's own list, which fits the foreign thread that runs through the BPHS Rahu Dasha passages below.
Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (pp. 116-117), setting out Parashara's groupings, puts the 10th in two classes at once: the kendras (1, 4, 7, 10) and the upachayas (3, 6, 10, 11), the houses of growth. That double membership is why the 10th keeps turning up on the good side of the node rules. The kendra rules (BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 17, Uttara Kalamrita) reach it as an angle; the sub-period rules that favour 3, 6, 10 and 11 reach it as an upachaya. Chatterjee makes the same point in his own words (Vol. II p. 24): the 10th should preferably be occupied by a benefic, but "even malefics are welcome in this house" because it is also an upachaya.
BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 16 gives the base rule for any node: Rahu and Ketu "give predominantly the effects" of the house lord they are joined with, or of the house they occupy. Sl. 17 adds that a node in a kendra, aspected by or associated with the lord of a kona (trine) or a kendra, becomes a Yoga Karaka. Rahu in the 10th is in a kendra by definition, so half of Sl. 17 is met by the placement alone; the other half depends on who touches it.
The Bhrigu Sutras: one sutra for both nodes
Chapter 8 of the Bhrigu Sutras, "Effects of Rahu and Ketu in the Twelve Houses", opens with a translator's note: the author gives the same effects for both nodes in every house, presumably because they always stand seventh from each other, while "the other authorities" give separate effects. So the sutra for the 10th is printed under the heading "Rahu or Ketu in the Tenth House" and is word for word the sutra the Ketu page quotes. What is specific to Rahu comes only from the two other authorities printed after it.
Sutras 25-28 (p. 113) open with a line on the native's sexual conduct and on living in slums. The next sentence turns it round: the native "will live in good places if Rahu or Ketu is associated with a benefic". The block closes with an interest in poetry. Read as a whole, the sutra is conditional. Without a benefic, the first sentence stands; with one, the dwelling line reverses it. Poetry is unconditional.
The sutra does not define "associated". Elsewhere in BPHS association and aspect are usually listed side by side ("associated with, or receives a Drishti from"), which suggests association means sharing the house. On that reading the benefic has to sit in the 10th with Rahu. Whether a benefic's aspect also counts is a judgment the text leaves open, and this page does not settle it.
The other views printed under the sutra
Phaladeepika, as quoted in the Bhrigu Sutras (p. 113), gives Rahu in the 10th three things in one line: few children, no good deeds, and "fearless and famous". The earlier version of this page kept only the last two words; the line is mixed, not simply favourable. Its Ketu line for the same house (p. 114) has sinful deeds with fame for courage, so the two nodes share the fame but differ on the rest.
Chamatkar Chintamani, quoted on p. 114, is harsher for Rahu: money wasted on drinking, cruel deeds, a preference for the company of foreigners (the translation says "non-Hindus"), and enjoyment of beautiful women. The earlier version of this page said no Chamatkar Chintamani line for Rahu in the 10th was reported; that was wrong, and the line is given here. Its Ketu line is a different reading again: unfortunate, in distress, no happiness from the father, but victorious over enemies when Ketu is in Aries, Virgo or Scorpio. No sign condition is attached to the Rahu line.

Where the authorities disagree
Laid side by side, the sources for Rahu in the 10th fall into three groups. The favourable group is BPHS (Ch. 21 Sl. 3 on sacrifices, Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 on the Dasha), Uttara Kalamrita (nodes turn auspicious in a kendra) and Chatterjee's innovative-genius line. The harsh group is Chamatkar Chintamani and Chatterjee's own p. 24 sentence that Saturn, Rahu or Ketu in the 10th push the native toward cruel deeds. The conditional group is the Bhrigu Sutras, which turn on a benefic, and Phaladeepika, which mixes fame with few children and no good deeds.
The same author sits on both sides. On p. 24 Chatterjee lists Rahu in the 10th with Saturn and Ketu as a push toward cruel deeds, then exempts Saturn for Libra rising because it is the Yoga Karaka there; five pages later he credits Rahu in the 10th with "innovative genius", in the chart of M. K. Gandhi. He does not reconcile the two. The p. 24 exception does suggest his own resolution: what a 10th-house malefic does depends on its role in the particular chart. For Rahu, which owns nothing, the role comes from its company, its aspects and its dispositor, which is exactly what BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 16-17 asks for.
Notice also that the harsh lines are about conduct (deeds, drink, company) and the favourable ones about standing (fame, government favour, a new path). Phaladeepika puts both in one sentence.
What BPHS Ch. 21 says about Rahu and the 10th
The earlier version of this page said Ch. 21 does not name Rahu for the 10th. It does. Sl. 3 reads, in full for its second half: "If Rahu is in an angle, or in a trine, he will perform religious sacrifices, like Jyotishtoma." The 10th is an angle, so the sloka covers Rahu here. It sits in the Karm Bhava chapter because the 10th is the house of deeds, and in this translation sacrifices are deeds of the highest order. The same sloka's first half is about the 10th lord: devoid of strength, it brings obstruction in work.
Rahu appears twice more in the chapter, neither time in the 10th. Sl. 6 puts the 10th lord in the 8th with Rahu among the bad-deeds combinations (that is Rahu in the 8th). Sl. 11 puts Rahu, the Sun, Saturn and Mars together in the 11th for "cessation of his duties". The rest of the chapter judges the house through its lord, and because the 10th lord is also Rahu's dispositor, those tests bear directly on this placement.
- Sl. 2: the 10th lord strong and exalted, or in its own sign or Navamsha, gives paternal happiness, fame and good deeds.
- Sl. 4: the 10th lord with a benefic, or in an auspicious house, gives steady gain through royal patronage and business; the contrary placement, the opposite.
- Sl. 5: malefics in both the 10th and 11th houses give bad deeds. Rahu counts as a malefic (Ch. 3 Sl. 11), so Rahu in the 10th with a malefic in the 11th meets this sloka's wording.
Rahu as an agent: the dispositor, the Yoga Karaka rule and Uttara Kalamrita
The Bhrigu Sutras close their node chapter (pp. 114-115) with a comment that ranks the voices a node speaks with. Because Rahu and Ketu are shadowy planets, "a strong school of thought" holds they own no signs and act as agents: first for a planet conjoined with them; failing that, for a planet aspecting them; only when neither, for the lord of the sign they occupy. Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (p. 142, rule 10) states the same principle more briefly: the nodes, owning no houses, give results by position, association and the rulers of the houses they occupy.
- A planet in the 10th with Rahu is the first voice. A benefic there also meets the Bhrigu Sutras' condition and the BPHS Ch. 47 association condition at the same time.
- Planets aspecting the 10th are the second voice. Ketu, always in the 4th, always aspects it; so does any planet in the 4th, Mars from the 7th or 3rd, Jupiter from the 6th or 2nd, and Saturn from the 8th or 1st.
- The 10th lord, Rahu's dispositor, speaks only when Rahu is alone and unaspected by anything but Ketu.
- By BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 17, a kendra lord (1st, 4th, 7th) or a trikona lord (5th, 9th) joining or aspecting Rahu makes it a Yoga Karaka. Ch. 34 Sl. 15 warns that a kendra or kona lord which also owns an evil house does not give Raj Yoga by mere relation, so the lord doing the touching has to be checked too.
The Bhrigu Sutras commentary then recommends Kalidasa's Uttara Kalamrita and summarises three points from it. Point (3) is the most direct for this house: the nodes "become auspicious" when they occupy a trikona or kendra, or are associated with the lord of the kendra or kona they occupy, and also when they join the lord of any kendra or kona. For Rahu in the 10th the first clause is met by position, and the second asks whether the 10th lord itself sits with Rahu, which happens when the 10th lord is in its own sign in the 10th.
Point (2) names the 10th outright: if one node and the lord of a trikona are in the 9th or 10th, the yoga brings prosperity, and even a conjunction of either node with a trikona lord is beneficial. Rahu in the 10th with the 5th or 9th lord in the same house is therefore the textbook good case in this source. The same point goes on to name one node in the 9th and the other in the 10th; since the nodes are always exactly opposite, that pairing cannot occur in a real chart, and this page reads the clause as a transcription problem rather than a rule. Point (3) ends with the spoiler: if the 9th lord also owns the 8th or 12th, the yoga loses its auspiciousness.
Point (1) is a reminder that the agent rule cuts both ways: the nodes, "if endowed with strength", give effects like the planet owning the house they occupy or join, including an inauspicious one. The app does not test the Yoga Karaka rule or the Uttara Kalamrita points. What a yoga in your chart means explains the idea, and the yogas calculator lists the combinations it does compute.
Sign conditions for a 10th-house Rahu
The texts attach several conditions to Rahu's sign, and they do not agree on its dignities. BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 exalts Rahu in Taurus, gives Gemini as moolatrikona and Aquarius as own sign, and records that "some sages" make Virgo its own. Uttara Kalamrita, as the Bhrigu Sutras quote it in Part I (p. 13), agrees on Taurus, Aquarius and Gemini and adds a fall in Scorpio; Sanketnidhi, quoted on the same page, exalts Rahu in Gemini and gives it Virgo. Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (pp. 82-83) differs again: Rahu owns Capricorn, is exalted in Taurus and Gemini, and debilitated in Scorpio and Sagittarius. This app follows none of these and gives Rahu Neutral in every sign.
Separate from dignity, the sub-period chapters name signs. Rahu's own sub-period in its Mahadasha (Ch. 55 Sl. 1-4) is good if Rahu is in Cancer, Scorpio, Virgo or Sagittarius and in the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th. The earlier version of this page cited Sl. 1-4 for the 10th without the sign condition; both halves are needed. Rahu's sub-period in Saturn's Mahadasha (Ch. 57 Sl. 68) gives opulence and glory with Rahu in Aries, Virgo, Cancer, Taurus, Pisces or Sagittarius; in Mercury's Mahadasha (Ch. 58 Sl. 47-49) it goes well in a kendra or trikona or in Aries, Aquarius, Virgo or Taurus.
| Rising sign | Rahu in (10th) | 10th lord | Sign notes from the texts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Capricorn | Saturn | Own sign in Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara |
| Taurus | Aquarius | Saturn | Own sign (BPHS, Uttara Kalamrita); Ch. 58 good sign |
| Gemini | Pisces | Jupiter | Ch. 57 good sign |
| Cancer | Aries | Mars | Ch. 57 and Ch. 58 good sign |
| Leo | Taurus | Venus | Exalted (BPHS, Uttara Kalamrita, JSS); Ch. 57 and Ch. 58 good sign |
| Virgo | Gemini | Mercury | Moolatrikona (BPHS, Uttara Kalamrita); exalted (Sanketnidhi, JSS) |
| Libra | Cancer | Moon | Ch. 55 Sl. 1-4 sign; Ch. 57 good sign |
| Scorpio | Leo | Sun | - |
| Sagittarius | Virgo | Mercury | Own sign ("some sages" in BPHS; Sanketnidhi); Ch. 55, 57, 58 sign |
| Capricorn | Libra | Venus | - |
| Aquarius | Scorpio | Mars | Debilitated (Uttara Kalamrita, JSS); Ch. 55 Sl. 1-4 sign |
| Pisces | Sagittarius | Jupiter | Debilitated (JSS); Ch. 55 Sl. 1-4 sign; Ch. 57 good sign |
The table shows how much a 10th-house Rahu's textual standing swings with the rising sign. For Leo rising Rahu sits in its exaltation in the 10th by three schemes at once; for Aquarius rising it sits in its fall by two schemes, yet in a sign Ch. 55 names as good for Rahu's own sub-period. A Sagittarius-rising chart puts Rahu in Virgo in the 10th, a sign that turns up in more sub-period lists than any other. Chatterjee adds a modern rider of a different kind (pp. 317-318): natal Rahu in the 2nd, 6th or 10th generally does well for service, profession and general success if it is strongly placed and preferably friendly to the Ascendant lord, and he names the friendly Ascendants as Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius.
Aspects: the app follows BPHS, Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara does not
BPHS Ch. 26 Sl. 2-5 give every graha a full aspect on the 7th and reserve special aspects for Saturn, Jupiter and Mars; the nodes are not named. This app follows that, so a 10th-house Rahu aspects only the 4th. Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (p. 83) gives Rahu aspects on the 3rd, 7th and 10th houses from itself. From the 10th those land on the 12th, the 4th and the 7th: on that book's reckoning a 10th-house Rahu would also touch the house of expenses and the house of partnership. The app does not use the JSS aspects; the two books disagree.
Ketu in the 4th and the single aspect
From the 10th, Rahu's 7th aspect lands on the 4th, home and mother, where Ketu always is. So the axis joins career and home. Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (p. 118) makes Rahu the karaka for maternal relations, which puts a second maternal thread on the 4th-house end. The 4th-house side is on Ketu in the 4th house, the reverse arrangement on Rahu in the 4th house, and Ketu's reading of this same house on Ketu in the 10th house. Both nodes count as malefics, so a graha in the 4th or 10th is aspected by both, which lowers its aspect score in the Shad Bala calculator and rules a benefic there out of Adhi and Amala Yoga.
Saravali's silence
Saravali's Ch. 30, "Effects of Planets in Bhavas", has no line for Rahu or Ketu in any house; the Bhrigu Sutras' own Other Views open by saying that Brihat Jataka and Saravali do not deal with the nodes in the houses. Saravali does name Rahu in Ch. 12, on evils cancelled at birth, but for other houses: Rahu in the 3rd, 6th or 11th aspected by benefics (Sl. 3-5), and Rahu in an Aries, Taurus or Cancer Ascendant (Sl. 10-11). Neither line covers the 10th. Saravali is silent on this placement and this page does not fill the gap.
How this app reads Rahu in the 10th
The engine returns Neutral for Rahu's dignity in every sign. On the Kundali page that means the testing line for the 10th: "real reputational risk under affliction". The favourable line, "rapid, unconventional career rise - genuinely auspicious in this Kendra per classical rules", reflects the kendra rule and Phaladeepika's fame, but it needs a strong dignity and cannot be reached.
The Mahadasha line applies BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6, which for Rahu passes only in the 1st, so in the 10th it reads testing; the quality label reads neutral. The rahu-mahadasha page names this as the clearest gap: a Rahu in the 10th or 11th with a benefic, which BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 reads well, still shows the testing sentence. Read the row as the house's theme under affliction, not a finding about a particular Rahu.
One feature does read the house directly. Career and Money counts Rahu in the 10th or 7th, or aspecting either, as "the classical signature of unconventional or self-created work rather than a conventional post", at a weight of 1.25 on the business side of its job versus business comparison. It is the one place in the app where Rahu in the 10th moves a result, and it is a signal of the kind of work, not a verdict on success. Chatterjee's "new path" line is the closest textual support for it in this library.
The Mahadasha from the 10th
For Rahu's 18-year Vimshottari period, BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 put Karm (the 10th) in the list of houses where Rahu, associated with or aspected by benefics and in a benefic sign, gives "all kinds of comforts by the beneficence of the Government, acquisition of wealth through a foreign Government, or sovereign and felicity at home". Sl. 40-43 give the reverse case: Rahu associated with a malefic or a Maraka graha, or in its debilitation, brings loss of position among other troubles, with loss at the start of the Dasha, some relief and gain in one's own country in the middle, and distress at the end. For a house of position, loss of position is the sharper risk. Dates come from the Vimshottari Dasha calculator; the sub-periods are on the Rahu Mahadasha page.
Two other BPHS Dasha rules leave the 10th out. Ch. 48 Sl. 18-20 adds, in brackets, that Rahu and Ketu give favourable results in Sahaj, Ari and Labh (3, 6, 11); the 10th is not in that list, though it is in the upachaya group. Ch. 44 Sl. 22-24 make the nodes Marakas in the 1st, 7th, 8th or 12th; the 10th is not among them either (this app does not compute lifespan and the label is named only for completeness). Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 time a Dasha by the lord's third of its sign and say the nodes, always retrograde, deliver in reverse order: a Rahu in the last ten degrees delivers early, one in the first ten late.
Ch. 50, a chapter on rashi (sign-based) Dashas such as Chara Dasha rather than Vimshottari, has two lines that touch this placement. Sl. 51-52 say the natural characteristics of the bhava Rahu occupies are harmed at the start of the Dasha; for a 10th-house Rahu that bhava is work and standing. Sl. 64 gives pilgrimage to holy places in the Dasha of the rashi that has Rahu in the 10th from it, which echoes Ch. 21 Sl. 3's sacrifices. Both belong to a different Dasha system from the one this app computes.
Rahu's sub-periods when Rahu is in the 10th
The Antardasha chapters (Ch. 52-60) set house conditions for Rahu's sub-period inside each Mahadasha. Most count from the Lagna; some count from the Mahadasha lord, which this table marks. The text attaches remedial measures to the adverse cases, which this app does not prescribe.
| Mahadasha | BPHS | What it says that touches a 10th-house Rahu |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Ch. 52 Sl. 23-29 | In a kendra or trikona: two difficult months, then comforts and royal favour if joined with benefics or in a benefic Navamsha. In an upachaya from the Lagna: recognition, name and fame |
| Moon | Ch. 53 Sl. 13-16 | In a kendra or trikona: some good at the start, then trouble. In Sahaj, Ari, Karm or Labh: success and gains. The two rules pull opposite ways for the 10th |
| Mars | Ch. 54 Sl. 9-10 | In moolatrikona, exaltation, a kendra, the 11th, 5th or 9th, with benefics: recognition from government, house, a son, business profits |
| Rahu | Ch. 55 Sl. 1-6 | Good if in Cancer, Scorpio, Virgo or Sagittarius and in 3, 6, 10 or 11; trouble if with malefics |
| Jupiter | Ch. 56 Sl. 72-78 | In a kendra or trikona, or aspected by a kendra lord or a benefic: gains and distant journeys; with a malefic, or 8th/12th from Jupiter: trouble |
| Saturn | Ch. 57 Sl. 65-68 | In a kendra or the 11th from the Lagna or Saturn: gains at the start; in Aries, Virgo, Cancer, Taurus, Pisces or Sagittarius: opulence |
| Mercury | Ch. 58 Sl. 47-51 | In a kendra or trikona: good after a bad start. In Sahaj, Randhr, Karm or Labh: a meeting with the ruler |
| Ketu | Ch. 59 Sl. 45-50 | In a kendra or trikona (also exaltation, own or friend's sign, the 11th, 3rd or 2nd): gains after some early trouble; in the 8th/12th with a malefic: illness |
| Venus | Ch. 60 Sl. 36-39 | In a kendra, trikona or the 11th: gains. In Sahaj, Ari, Karm or Labh: victory over enemies and royal favour |
The pattern across the chapters is consistent: the 2nd and 7th are the physical-distress houses for Rahu's sub-period, the 8th and 12th the adverse ones, and 3, 6, 10 and 11 the good ones. The 10th benefits twice, once as a kendra and once as Karm in the 3-6-10-11 list. The one exception is the Moon chapter, where the kendra clause is the troubled one and the Karm clause the good one, so a 10th-house Rahu meets both.
A modern casebook on timing
- Foreign travel (APA Vol. II p. 91): the Dasha of Rahu brings foreign journeys, and "the dasa of the planet whose 10th house is occupied by Rahu, can generate foreign travel". A case on p. 103 applies the second rule to Venus. For a 10th-house Rahu, the planet whose 10th it occupies is whatever sits on the Lagna.
- Aphorism 13 (p. 124): a planet closely conjunct Rahu gives poor results in its Dasha. For a 10th-house Rahu that is a planet in the 10th near Rahu's degree, which is exactly the planet the agent rule makes Rahu's principal.
- Aphorism 22 (p. 125): nodes in the 6th, 8th or 12th from their dispositor give bad results. Rahu in the 10th falls there when the 10th lord is in the 5th, 3rd or 11th.
- Case (p. 137): Rahu in the 10th with the 8th lord; the author reports career trouble when Rahu's Mahadasha began, and links it to Rahu joined with a trika lord.
Rahu crossing the 10th in transit
In transit the Gochar calculator counts from the natal Moon, and its source gives the malefics no rule for the 10th from the Moon, so Rahu there is shown as classically unremarkable. Chatterjee (p. 317) reads it differently: Rahu is good in transit through the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th from the Moon, Sun or Ascendant, and the 18-month transit of Rahu over a well-placed natal 2nd, 6th or 10th-house Rahu is "quite rewarding". That is one modern author's view. The natal 10th from the Lagna is a separate count from either.
A worked chart
We ran the engine for 10 March 1995, 03:50 IST, New Delhi (re-run on 9 October 2026; no figure changed). Capricorn rises at 1.46 degrees, so Libra is the 10th. Rahu is at 14.38 Libra in Swati pada 3, in the 10th house; Ketu is at 14.38 Aries in the 4th. Rahu's dispositor Venus, lord of the 5th and 10th for Capricorn rising, is at 14.46 Capricorn on the Lagna with Mercury. Mars, retrograde and debilitated at 20.75 Cancer in the 7th, aspects the 10th by its special 4th-house aspect. Jupiter is in Scorpio in the 11th, the Sun and Saturn in Aquarius in the 2nd, and the Moon at 0.56 Gemini in the 6th.
- Placement line: Neutral, favourable false, the 10th-house testing sentence.
- Mahadasha line: testing; quality neutral.
- Dates: a Mars balance to 23 May 1998, then Rahu's Mahadasha to 22 May 2016.
- Career and Money: "Rahu sits in your 10th house", so the unconventional-work signal is counted. Kaal Sarp: not present.
Checked by hand against the texts. Nothing joins Rahu, so by the agent rule Rahu speaks first for Mars, its one aspecting planet besides Ketu. For Capricorn rising Mars rules the 4th (Aries), a kendra, and the 11th. A kendra lord aspecting a node in a kendra meets BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 17 for a Yoga Karaka. Against that, Mars is debilitated, and BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 40-43 read Rahu associated with a malefic badly; whether an aspect counts as association is the open question noted above, and this chart sits on it.
No benefic joins Rahu, so the Bhrigu Sutras' condition for good dwellings is not met, nor the Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 association condition. Uttara Kalamrita point (3) is met by position (a kendra) but not by association, since Venus, lord of the 10th, sits in the 1st and not with Rahu. Point (2) needs a trikona lord in the 10th with Rahu; Venus rules the 5th, but is not there. The dispositor Venus itself sits in the 1st, a kendra and trikona, joined by Mercury, a benefic: as the 10th lord, that meets BPHS Ch. 21 Sl. 4. Ch. 21 Sl. 5 is not met: Jupiter in the 11th is a benefic.
Rahu at 14.38 degrees is in the middle third, so by Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 its results fall mid-period whichever way round they run. Libra is not one of the Ch. 55 Sl. 1-4 signs, so Rahu's own sub-period at the start of the Mahadasha does not meet that sloka's condition. Aphorism 22 is not met: Rahu is 10th from Venus, not 6th, 8th or 12th. The app prints testing on both lines; by hand the chart meets the Yoga Karaka rule through a debilitated planet and the house conditions through the dispositor, but not the benefic one.

- List grahas in the 10th with Rahu. A benefic there is the Bhrigu Sutras' condition; a 5th or 9th lord there is Uttara Kalamrita's prosperity case.
- List the grahas aspecting the 10th and work out your kendra and trikona lords: one of them joining or aspecting Rahu meets BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 17.
- Find the 10th lord, Rahu's dispositor, and test it by BPHS Ch. 21 Sl. 2-4. The Dashamsa (D10) shows Rahu's sign in the career chart, without a dignity score.
- Check Rahu's sign against the table above, then its degree for the reversed Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 timing, and read the dates and sub-periods.
- Is Rahu in the 10th house good for career?
- The texts split. BPHS Ch. 21 Sl. 3 and Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 lean favourable, Phaladeepika gives fame alongside few children and no good deeds, Chamatkar Chintamani is harsh, and the Bhrigu Sutras make the good reading depend on a benefic. Chatterjee says both "cruel deeds" and "innovative genius". None of them is a career forecast.
- Do the Bhrigu Sutras say the same for Rahu and Ketu in the 10th?
- Yes. The translator's note says the author gives one set of effects for both nodes. Only the Phaladeepika and Chamatkar Chintamani lines printed after the sutra are separate for each node.
- Can Rahu in the 10th be a Yoga Karaka?
- By BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 17, yes, if a kendra or trikona lord joins or aspects it. Uttara Kalamrita, as the Bhrigu Sutras quote it, also counts a node with a trikona lord in the 10th as a prosperity yoga. The app does not test either rule.
- Why does the app show testing?
- Its favourable line needs a dignity the engine never gives Rahu, and its Dasha rule passes for Rahu only in the 1st. The Rahu Mahadasha page names the 10th and 11th as the clearest cases of this gap.
- What does Career and Money do with it?
- It counts Rahu in or aspecting the 10th or 7th as a sign of unconventional or self-created work, at weight 1.25. It does not predict success or failure.
- Does BPHS Ch. 21 say anything about Rahu in the 10th?
- Yes, Sl. 3: Rahu in an angle or trine performs religious sacrifices such as Jyotishtoma. Sl. 6 and Sl. 11 name Rahu in the 8th and 11th, which are different placements.
- What does Saravali say?
- Nothing for this house. Its chapter on planets in the bhavas has no node verses, and its Ch. 12 lines on Rahu cover the 3rd, 6th, 11th and 1st only.
- What does Ketu in the 4th add?
- It is always opposite and aspects the 10th. See Ketu in the 4th house.
