Planet in house

Rahu in the 5th house from the books themselves: the shared Bhrigu sutra, the separate Phaladeepika and Chamatkar Chintamani lines, the Lajjit state BPHS defines by this house, what the Dasha and Antardasha chapters say for a node in a trikona, and how the app reads the placement.

The 5th is a trikona, one of the houses of fortune, and the house of children, learning and judgement. Rahu, the Moon's ascending node, owns no sign and has no dignity in this app, so in the 5th it is read through the house and the grahas around it. The books are not silent here, but they are uneven: one harsh shared sutra, two short lines written for Rahu alone, a BPHS rule about the house rather than the node, and a set of Dasha passages that favour a node in a trikona. This page sets out what each says, where they disagree, what they do not say, and what the app prints. For the node, see Rahu in Vedic astrology; for the house, the 5th house (Putra Bhava); for the other node in the same house, Ketu in the 5th house.

Where these citations come from

Every classical line here was read in the corpus texts this app is written from: the English Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS), Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras, S. S. Chatterjee's Advanced Predictive Astrology and Rama R. Rao's Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara. Phaladeepika, Chamatkar Chintamani and Uttara Kalamrita are not in that corpus; their lines are cited as the Bhrigu Sutras quote them. Short phrases are quoted; the rest is paraphrase.

The house Rahu occupies here

BPHS Ch. 11 Sl. 6 tells the learned to deduce from Putr Bhava "amulets, sacred spells, learning, knowledge, sons, royalty (or authority), fall of position etc." Only one of those items is children. Three concern the mind and its tools, and two concern standing, including its loss. A reading of Rahu in the 5th that talks only about children has dropped most of the house.

The house is also a trine. BPHS Ch. 32 Sl. 35-37 call the kendras and konas (it names Putr and Dharm) auspicious houses, "the association with which turns even evil into auspiciousness", and the same passage groups the 5th with the 2nd, 8th and 11th as a panaphara. Rama R. Rao's Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (pp. 116-117) repeats the same groupings: trikonas 5 and 9, panaparas 2, 5, 8 and 11. The 5th is neither a dusthana (6, 8, 12) nor an upachaya (3, 6, 10, 11), and that matters, because most node rules in the books are written for those two groups. The 5th falls between them.

The main rule for a node in any house is BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 16: Rahu and Ketu "give predominantly the effects, as due to their yuti with a Bhava Lord, or, as due to the Bhava they occupy." The next sloka, the node Yoga Karaka rule, needs the node in a kendra with or aspected by a kona or kendra lord. The 5th is a kona, not a kendra, so Sl. 17 does not reach a Rahu here, however well connected.

The Bhrigu sutra, and why it is shared

The Bhrigu Sutras give the nodes one chapter, Ch. 8 of the edition in the corpus, "Effects of Rahu and Ketu in the Twelve Houses". The translator's note at its head says the author gives the same effects for both nodes, presumably because they are always 7th from each other, while "the other authorities" give separate effects. So the sutra for the 5th is said of Rahu or Ketu. It is not a Rahu reading, and a page on Rahu that quoted it as one would be overstating the text.

Sutras 11-13 (p. 111) read, in summary: no children or loss of children, attributed in the text to the wrath of the Serpent God; children after a ritual the sutra names; windy diseases; sinful deeds; the "wrath of the king"; and living in undesirable places. That is the whole block. This app does not prescribe rituals, so the ritual is named only as part of what the sutra says, and the children clause is reported, not applied: the sutra gives no condition under which it holds or fails, and the BPHS chapters on the 5th, below, test the house in ways that can point the other way.

Two items in the sutra line up with BPHS. The "wrath of the king" sits beside Ch. 11 Sl. 6's royalty and fall of position: both texts attach authority, and its loss, to this house. The "windy diseases" sit beside BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 30, which calls Rahu windy in temperament and intelligent. These are classical associations, not medical advice.

The separate lines for Rahu: Phaladeepika and Chamatkar Chintamani

Under "Other Views" for the 5th, the Bhrigu Sutras print two older authorities, each with a line for Rahu and a different line for Ketu. These, unlike the sutra, are Rahu's own.

SourceRahu in the 5thApplies to
Bhrigu Sutras Ch. 8, Sutras 11-13 (p. 111)No children or loss of children; windy diseases; sinful deeds; wrath of the king; undesirable placesEither node

Chamatkar Chintamani, as quoted there (p. 111)Will get a son; always worried on account of his wife; stomach ailmentsRahu
Saravali Ch. 30No verse for the nodes in any house-
BPHS Ch. 45 Sl. 11-29 (Lajjit Avastha)A planet in the 5th associated with Rahu is Lajjit; a Lajjit planet in the 5th harms progenyThe companion, not Rahu
Read in the corpus: bhrigu-sutras.txt lines 4403-4416; saravali.txt Ch. 30, lines 4608-5013; bphs.txt lines 4447-4472. Phaladeepika and Chamatkar Chintamani are not themselves in the corpus.

An earlier version of this page, written without the books, said no Phaladeepika line existed for Rahu in the 5th and summarised Chamatkar Chintamani as "a son, though with worry". Both were wrong. Phaladeepika does have a line, and it agrees with the sutra on children. Chamatkar Chintamani gives a son, and the worry it attaches is about the wife, not the son.

So the authorities split on the one subject a reader usually brings to this placement. The sutra and Phaladeepika lean to childlessness; Chamatkar Chintamani gives a son. All three agree on something less often quoted: two of the three name stomach ailments, and the sutra names windy diseases. BPHS Ch. 17 Sl. 3-5, in a list of body parts for a relative whose karaka or lord joins the 6th lord or sits in the 6th or 8th, gives Rahu and Ketu the abdomen. That is a consistent classical association across separate texts, reported as what they say and not as medical advice.

None of these lines carries a condition. The tradition's own commentary, quoted in the next sections, says a node acts for its company and its sign lord, and BPHS's 5th-house tests weigh the lord and the benefics. A flat line with no condition, read against a framework that is all conditions, is the weakest kind of evidence in these books. This page reports the lines and does not apply them to anyone.

What the books do not say

Saravali's Ch. 30, "Effects of Planets in Bhavas", has no line on Rahu or Ketu in any house; a search of the whole chapter finds neither name. The Bhrigu Sutras say so at the start of their node chapter: "Brihat Jatak and Saravali have not dealt with the effects of Rahu and Ketu in the various houses." BPHS has no node-in-house chapter either; its bhava chapters (Ch. 11-23) mention the nodes only inside combinations. This page does not fill that gap from anywhere else.

BPHS on the 5th: the house tests, and the Lajjit state

The Lajjit state: a rule about the house, not the node

BPHS Ch. 45, on the avasthas of the grahas, defines one state by this house. Sl. 11-18: placed in Putr Bhava, "if a Grah is associated with Rahu, or Ketu, or with Sūrya, Śani, or Mangal, it is in Lajjit Avastha". Sl. 19-23 give the house result for a Lajjit graha in the 5th (destruction of progeny, or one surviving child), and Sl. 24-29 give the general result of the state: aversion to God, loss of intelligence, loss of child, evil speech and listlessness in good things. The list touches learning as well as children, which matches the house.

Note what the rule is about: the other planet in the 5th, not Rahu. Rahu alone in the 5th puts nothing in Lajjit state. Rahu with Jupiter, Venus, the Moon or Mercury in the 5th does, and so does Rahu with the Sun, Saturn or Mars, which are themselves Lajjit triggers. The same chapter weights everything by strength (Sl. 19-23: weak grahas reduce good effects, strong ones give greater effects), and the app does not compute avasthas at all.

A modern author makes the same point from practice. S. S. Chatterjee's Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, 2000), in its list of aphorisms on good and bad Dasha periods (pp. 123-125), gives as no. 13 that a planet in close company of Rahu or Ketu will not give good results in its Dasha. Read together with the Lajjit rule, a companion of Rahu in the 5th is the graha both an old and a modern text single out.

The Bhrigu Sutras' own planet chapters add the missing condition. The Sun in the 5th with Rahu or Ketu (Sutras 51-58, p. 22) and Jupiter in the 5th with either node (Sutras 24-31, p. 78) carry the children line, and both lift it when that planet is aspected by a benefic.

What the 5th-house chapters test instead

BPHS Ch. 16, the Putr Bhava chapter, rarely tests an occupant. It tests the 5th lord. Sl. 8: if the lord of the 5th is in the 6th, 8th or 12th, in an enemy's sign, in fall, or in the 5th itself, issue comes "with difficulty". The chapter's only node lines name Ketu, with Mercury, beside a fallen 5th lord (Sl. 5 and 7). Rahu does not appear in it. Ch. 32 Sl. 31-34 make Jupiter the karaka of the 5th.

Saravali Ch. 34 Sl. 25-26 give the simplest test of all: if the 5th contains a benefic, is aspected by a benefic, or is a benefic's sign, the native "will surely beget children", and the 5th may be counted from the Moon or the Ascendant, "the stronger prevailing". None of these names Rahu, but all apply to a chart that has Rahu in the 5th, and they are conditional where the node lines are flat. A benefic sign on the 5th, a benefic aspect, a strong 5th lord and a well-placed Jupiter are the factors these chapters weigh, and Rahu's presence does not remove them.

Two BPHS combinations that use Rahu in the 5th

BPHS names Rahu in the 5th in two combinations outside the 5th-house chapter, both counted from another house. Ch. 20 Sl. 30, in the Dharm Bhava chapter, headed "Lack of Fortunes": if Rahu is in the 9th from the 9th, which is the 5th, while his dispositor is in the 8th and the 9th lord is in fall, the native will be "devoid of fortunes". It needs all three conditions. Ch. 18 Sl. 33, in the Yuvati Bhava chapter, times marriage to the 31st or 33rd year when Venus is in the 5th and Rahu is in the 5th or the 9th. Both are narrow; neither is a reading of Rahu in the 5th on its own.

And BPHS Ch. 21 Sl. 3, in the Karm Bhava chapter, has one of the few plainly favourable lines for the node in its houses: "If Rahu is in an angle, or in a trine, he will perform religious sacrifices, like Jyotishtoma." A trine includes the 5th. The line concerns religious practice, not children or wealth.

Rahu speaks for others: the agent rule in the 5th

The commentary closing the Bhrigu Sutras' node chapter (pp. 114-115) reports "a strong school of thought" that the nodes own no signs and act as agents: for the planet they are conjoined with; if none, for the planet that aspects them; only when neither, for the lord of the house they occupy. Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (p. 142, rule 10) says much the same in one line: the nodes, not owning houses, give results by their position, association and the rulers of the houses they occupy. In whole-sign houses the lord of Rahu's sign is the 5th lord itself, so the last step of the rule points straight at the planet that rules children and learning.

  • A graha joined with Rahu in the 5th is the node's first voice, and it is also the graha the Lajjit rule puts in the ashamed state. The two rules read the same conjunction in opposite directions: one says Rahu speaks for that graha, the other that the graha is compromised by Rahu.
  • With no companion, an aspecting graha comes next. In this app that means a graha in the 11th (7th aspect), Mars in the 2nd or 10th, Jupiter in the 1st or 9th, or Saturn in the 3rd or 8th, plus Ketu, which the engine always lists as aspecting Rahu. Whether a node's aspect on its own partner counts for this rule the commentary does not say.
  • With Rahu alone and unaspected, the 5th lord carries the reading: its house, its company, its strength. BPHS Ch. 16 Sl. 8 then applies to Rahu's agent as well as to the house.

Uttara Kalamrita, applied to the 5th

The same commentary recommends Kalidasa's Uttara Kalamrita and gives three of its points. Point (3) is the one written for houses like this: the nodes "become auspicious when they occupy a Trikona or Kendra position or when they are associated with the lord of that particular kendra or kona house in which they are posited", and they also prove beneficial when joined with the lord of any kendra or kona. For the 5th, that gives two layers. Rahu in a trine qualifies by position alone; Rahu in the 5th joined with the 5th lord, which means the 5th lord in its own sign, meets the stronger form of the condition.

Point (1) qualifies it: the nodes, "if endowed with strength", give effects like the planet owning the house they occupy or join. Point (2) is about the 9th and 10th and does not reach the 5th, except through its general clause that a node joined with the lord of a trikona proves beneficial. The point (3) passage ends with a spoiler: the auspiciousness is lost if the 9th lord also owns the 8th or 12th. That condition turns on the rising sign, not on Rahu.

So within one book the 5th is read two ways. The sutra gives the node in the 5th a harsh list; the commentary's Uttara Kalamrita points make a node in a trine auspicious. The book does not reconcile them. The likeliest reading, and it is only a reading, is that the sutra describes the node unsupported and the Uttara Kalamrita points describe it strong and well connected.

Ketu in the 11th and the single aspect

This app gives Rahu the 7th aspect only, following BPHS Ch. 26 Sl. 2-5, which name special aspects for Saturn, Jupiter and Mars and not the nodes. From the 5th it falls on the 11th, the house of gains, where Ketu always is, and Ketu's aspect returns to the 5th. The 11th-house side is on Ketu in the 11th house, and the reverse axis on Rahu in the 11th house, one of the placements the sources read best. The Bhrigu sutra for the 11th is the same text for either node, so the 11th-house reading that goes with this chart is the shared one.

Not every book agrees on the aspect. Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (pp. 82-83) gives Rahu aspects on the 3rd, 7th and 10th houses from itself. On that scheme a Rahu in the 5th would also aspect the 7th and the 2nd. The app does not use it, and the BPHS chapter on aspects does not support it. The same pages disagree with BPHS Ch. 47 on Rahu's own sign (JSS: Capricorn; BPHS: Aquarius, with "some sages" giving Virgo) and add Gemini to Taurus as exaltation. For a 5th-house Rahu this changes which rising signs count as "Rahu in own sign": Aquarius in the 5th means Gemini rising on the BPHS reckoning, Capricorn in the 5th means Virgo rising on the JSS one.

Both nodes count as malefics in the engine, following BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 11. A graha in the 5th or 11th is aspected by both, which lowers its aspect score in the Shad Bala calculator and rules a benefic there out of Adhi and Amala Yoga in the yogas calculator. Saravali Ch. 12 Sl. 3-5, on evils cancelled at birth, gives the nodes' good houses as the 3rd, 6th or 11th from the Ascendant, with benefic aspect; the 5th is not on that list, though the 11th, where Ketu sits, is.

What BPHS's Dasha chapters say for Rahu in the 5th

Rahu's Mahadasha passage, BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 34-43, has a favourable house list and an unfavourable one. The favourable list, for a Rahu joined or aspected by benefics in a benefic sign, is Tanu, Bandhu, Yuvati, Karm, Labh and Sahaj: the 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th, 11th and 3rd. The unfavourable houses are Randhr and Vyaya, the 8th and 12th. The 5th is in neither. What does reach a 5th-house Rahu is the passage's sign and company clauses. Rahu exalted (Taurus in BPHS), in moolatrikona (Gemini) or own sign brings, among other things, birth of sons and recognition from foreign governments; Rahu with a malefic or Maraka, or debilitated, brings loss of position and trouble to wife and children.

For a 5th-house Rahu the exaltation clause applies to one rising sign: Virgo, which puts Taurus in the 5th. Libra rising puts Aquarius in the 5th, Rahu's BPHS own sign, and Aries rising puts Leo there. Those conditions are about the sign, and the house only decides which ascendants meet them.

Ch. 48 adds two general rules. Sl. 5-8: a graha placed in an auspicious house, "like Trikon etc.", at the commencement of its Dasha gives favourable results, and the natal placement and the placement at the start of the Dasha should both be weighed. Sl. 18-20 make Dashas of grahas in the 3rd, 6th and 11th unfavourable, with a bracketed exception: Rahu and Ketu give favourable results there. The 5th is outside that exception but inside the "Trikon" of Sl. 5-8. Ch. 44 Sl. 22-24 list the houses where the nodes become Marakas (the 1st, 7th, 8th and 12th) and where Rahu gives difficulties in its Dasha (the 6th, 8th and 12th); the 5th is in neither list. This app computes no life-span.

Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 time a Dasha by the lord's decanate (first third of the sign at the start, second in the middle, third at the end) and say the nodes, "who are always retrograde", deliver in reverse order. Ch. 50 Sl. 51-52, which belong to the rashi (Char) Dashas rather than Vimshottari, add that the natural significations of the house Rahu occupies are harmed at the commencement of the Dasha. For the 5th that would be its learning, children and standing, but the line is written for a different Dasha system and this app's Chara Dasha calculator gives the periods' dates only, without this reading.

Rahu's sub-periods: where the 5th is named

The Antar Dasha chapters (BPHS Ch. 52-60) give a condition list for Rahu's sub-period inside each Mahadasha. Most count from the Lagna; some count from the Mahadasha lord. Read for a Rahu in the 5th from the Lagna, they fall into a clear pattern.

Mahadasha (BPHS)Rahu sub-period condition that reaches the 5thResult as the text gives it

Three things stand out. First, the Mars chapter is the only one that names Putr, the 5th, as a house by name, and it ties it to "happiness from son". Second, six of the nine chapters put the trikonas on the good side, and only the Moon chapter reverses that. Third, the conditions that turn a sub-period bad (Rahu in the 8th or 12th from the Dasha lord, Rahu weak, Rahu with malefics, Rahu in or ruling the 2nd or 7th) are about relations and companions, which a 5th-house Rahu may or may not have. The Dasha chapters, in other words, are kinder to this placement than the house lines are.

Dates come from the Vimshottari Dasha calculator; the period as a whole is on the Rahu Mahadasha page.

A modern view: the shrewd 5th-house Rahu

Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 148) has the one sentence in the corpus that reads Rahu in the 5th as a trait of mind. The paragraph opens with the 5th controlling intelligence, then says Rahu in the 5th "produces a very shrewd, calculating person", and that Rahu with the 5th lord helps a person gamble with their own fate and others'. It adds that the Moon or Mercury in the 5th with Rahu makes impaired mental ability likely, especially in their Dashas, and closes on a description of perceptiveness that can turn exploitative. The scan prints the house as "Sth", an OCR error the book shares for both the 5th and the 8th; the opening sentence on intelligence fixes it as the 5th here.

This is one modern author, not a classical text, and it is the source of a theme people often attach to this placement. It fits BPHS's description of Rahu as intelligent and the 5th as the house of judgement, and it fits the Lajjit rule's "loss of intelligence" for a companion. It is also, notably, the only line in the corpus that connects a 5th-house Rahu with speculation. The app's own testing sentence uses that word too; that is the app's modern framing, not a classical one.

How this app reads Rahu in the 5th

The engine returns Neutral for Rahu's dignity in every sign, and its favourable planet-in-house line on the Kundali page needs an exalted, moolatrikona, own or friendly sign. So every Rahu in the 5th gets the testing line: "real anxiety around children or speculation under affliction". The favourable line written for this house, "unconventional creative or intellectual breakthroughs - genuinely auspicious in this Trikona per classical rules", draws on the Uttara Kalamrita trikona rule but is never shown, because no Rahu passes the dignity test. Read the row as the house's theme under affliction, not a finding about your Rahu: it does not look at Rahu's company, which every source above treats as decisive.

The Mahadasha line applies BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6, which for Rahu passes only in the 1st, so in the 5th it reads testing; the quality label reads neutral, because only the 6th, 8th and 12th turn it to challenging. Career and Money adds Rahu to its risk-appetite reading at a fixed weight of 0.75 when it is in the 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th or 12th, and says the weight is fixed because Rahu has no Shad Bala. The app does not compute Lajjit or any other avastha, does not run the Antar Dasha condition lists above, and does not apply the agent rule.

In transit the Gochar calculator counts from the natal Moon. Its rule for malefics gives the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 11th from the Moon as favourable and the 1st, 8th and 12th as testing; the 5th gets no rule, so Rahu there is shown as classically unremarkable: silent, not favourable. Advanced Predictive Astrology's transit chapter (pp. 317-318) gives Rahu good transits through the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th, which again leaves the 5th out.

A worked chart, and a lesson about birth time

We ran the engine for 10 March 1995, 11:50 IST, New Delhi, an illustrative birth, not a real person. Gemini rises at 0.02 degrees, so Libra is the 5th. Rahu is at 14.36 Libra in Swati pada 3, in the 5th house; Ketu is in Aries in the 11th. Rahu's dispositor Venus, lord of the 5th and 12th for Gemini rising, is in Capricorn in the 8th. Mars, retrograde and debilitated in Cancer, is in the 2nd and aspects the 5th by its 4th-house aspect. The Moon is in Gemini in the 1st, Jupiter in Scorpio in the 6th, and the Sun and Saturn (in its own sign, combust) in Aquarius in the 9th. A run on the 2026-10-09 engine gave the same figures as the earlier run this page was first written from.

  • Placement line: Neutral, favourable false, the 5th-house testing sentence.
  • Mahadasha line: testing; quality neutral.
  • Dates: a Mars balance to 21 April 1996, then Rahu's Mahadasha to 21 April 2014.
  • Career and Money: Rahu on the money axis, at the fixed weight. Kaal Sarp: not present.

Checked by hand against the books. The agent rule: nothing joins Rahu, but the engine lists Mars and Ketu as aspecting it, so on the commentary's order Mars, a debilitated malefic, is Rahu's voice before the sign lord. (An earlier version of this page skipped that step and went straight to Venus.) BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 40-43 speak of Rahu "associated with" a malefic; whether an aspect counts as association there the text does not say. The sign lord, Venus, is the 5th lord in the 8th, which is a Ch. 16 Sl. 8 condition for issue "with difficulty".

The Ch. 20 Sl. 30 combination is worth testing here because two of its three parts are met: Rahu is in the 9th from the 9th, and its dispositor is in the 8th. The third part fails: the 9th lord for Gemini is Saturn, in its own sign, not in fall. So the "lack of fortunes" line does not apply. On the other side, Libra is a benefic's sign, one of Saravali Ch. 34's three conditions, and with the Moon in the 1st the count from the Moon and from the Ascendant is the same 5th. No graha shares the 5th, so nothing is put in Lajjit state, and no benefic aspects the house. Rahu at 14.36 degrees is in the middle third of its sign, which reversed is still the middle of the period.

The bigger lesson is the ascendant. At 0.02 degrees it has only just entered Gemini. Ten minutes earlier, at 11:40, the same engine gives Taurus rising at 27.63, Rahu in the 6th, the quality label challenging, and Rahu's Mahadasha starting on 7 May 1996 instead of 21 April. The 6th is one of the houses the books read well for the nodes. A birth time rounded to the nearest quarter-hour would leave this chart's Rahu house undecided. The Lagna calculator shows how close your ascendant is to a boundary, and what to do when the birth time is uncertain is its own article.

Checking Rahu in your own 5th house

  1. Cast the chart in the birth chart calculator and check the ascendant degree. Within a degree or two of a sign edge, the house is uncertain.
  2. Note any graha joined with Rahu in the 5th. It is Rahu's first voice, by Ch. 45 it is in Lajjit state, and by the modern aphorism its own Dasha is weakened.
  3. Note the grahas aspecting Rahu; with no companion, the first of them is the next voice.
  4. Find the 5th lord, Rahu's dispositor, and note its house and company; Ch. 16 Sl. 8 tests exactly that.
  5. Note any benefic aspect on the 5th, whether its sign belongs to a benefic, and where Jupiter is.
  6. Count the 5th from the Moon as well; Saravali lets the stronger of the two counts prevail.
  7. Check the sign: Taurus, Gemini or Aquarius in the 5th brings in Ch. 47's sign clauses.
  8. Read the dates against the sub-period table, keeping in mind that the Rahu Mahadasha passage names neither the 5th nor its opposite as a good or bad house.
Does Rahu in the 5th house mean problems with children?
The shared Bhrigu sutra and Phaladeepika read childlessness; Chamatkar Chintamani gives a son. None of the three states a condition, while BPHS and Saravali test the 5th lord, benefics and Jupiter. This app makes no prediction about children.
Is the Bhrigu Sutras line written for Rahu?
No. The Bhrigu Sutras give one set of sutras for Rahu or Ketu in each house. Only the Phaladeepika and Chamatkar Chintamani lines they quote are separate for each node.
What is Lajjit Avastha?
A state BPHS Ch. 45 assigns to a planet in the 5th associated with Rahu, Ketu, the Sun, Saturn or Mars. It concerns the other planet, not Rahu. The app does not compute it.
Is the 5th a good house for Rahu because it is a trikona?
Uttara Kalamrita, as the Bhrigu Sutras commentary quotes it, says the nodes become auspicious in a trikona or kendra, more so with the lord of that house. BPHS Ch. 21 Sl. 3 gives Rahu in a trine religious sacrifices. The Yoga Karaka rule of BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 17 needs a kendra and does not apply.
Why does the app say testing?
Its favourable line needs a dignity the engine never gives Rahu, and its Dasha rule passes for Rahu only in the 1st house.
Does BPHS say anything about the Rahu Dasha with Rahu in the 5th?
The Mahadasha passage names the 5th neither among the good nor the troubled houses. Ch. 48 Sl. 5-8 favour a graha in a trikona at the start of its Dasha, and most sub-period chapters put a trikona Rahu on the good side, the Mars chapter naming the 5th outright.
Does Rahu in the 5th make a person shrewd?
One modern book, Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 148), says so. No classical text in the corpus does; BPHS only calls Rahu intelligent in general.
What does Ketu in the 11th add?
It is always opposite and aspects the 5th. See Ketu in the 11th house.
