The 6th house carries two labels that pull in opposite directions. It is an upachaya, a house of growth where malefics are classically allowed to do well, and it is a dusthana, one of the three difficult houses with the 8th and 12th. For Rahu, the Moon’s ascending node, that double label shows up as a real disagreement in the sources, including inside BPHS itself. This page sets the sources side by side, quotes what each actually says, and shows what this app prints. For the node, see Rahu in Vedic astrology; for the house, the 6th house (Ari Bhava).
Where these citations come from
Every classical line on this page was re-read in the source books: the Bhrigu Sutras (Part II Ch. 8, pp. 111-115, and the Mars chapter, pp. 52-53), Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS), Saravali, S. S. Chatterjee’s Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II, and Rama R. Rao’s Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara. Phaldeepika, Chamatkar Chintamani and Uttara Kalamrita are not on our shelf; their lines are given as the Bhrigu Sutras quote them. Health entries are what the texts say, not medical advice, and BPHS’s remedial measures are not repeated.
The house Rahu occupies here
BPHS Ch. 11 Sl. 7 gives Ari Bhava, the 6th: the maternal uncle, doubts about death, enemies, ulcers and the step-mother. Ch. 17 is the house’s own chapter and opens with diseases, ulcers and bruises; its Sl. 3-5 assign a body part to each graha for a relative whose significator is tied to the 6th or 8th, and give the abdomen to Rahu and Ketu. Later writers add debt, service and competition. The general rule for any house, Ch. 11 Sl. 14-16, makes a bhava prosper when a benefic joins or aspects it and suffer when its lord is with a malefic or with the lord of an evil house, a list in which the text names the 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th.
BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 16 governs the node: Rahu and Ketu give mainly the effects of the bhava lord they join or of the bhava they occupy. In the 6th that second clause matters, because the house is about opposition. A node that gives the results of the house of enemies can be read as a person who meets opposition or as one who overcomes it, and the sources take both readings. Rao’s Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (p. 142, rule 10) states the same principle in modern form: the nodes own no houses and give results by position, association and the ruler of the house they occupy.
The Bhrigu sutra for the 6th, shared by both nodes
The Bhrigu Sutras’ chapter on the nodes opens with a translator’s note that matters for every page in this series: the author gives the same effects for Rahu and Ketu in each house, presumably because the two are always seventh from each other, while "the other authorities" give separate effects. So the sutra below is not Rahu’s alone. It is printed under the heading "Rahu or Ketu in the Sixth House" and applies word for word to a Ketu in the 6th.
Sutras 14-16 (p. 111) have two parts. The first is short and wholly favourable: the person will be tolerant and very happy. The second is a condition. If the Moon is associated with the node, the sutra describes an improper liaison with women of a royal household and says the person will be poor and a thief. The earlier version of this page compressed that to "poor if the Moon joins"; the full clause is harsher, and it is reported here only as what the text says, not as a prediction about anyone. What matters for reading a chart is the structure: the favourable result is the default, and one specific conjunction reverses it.
The other views: Phaldeepika and Chamatkar Chintamani
Under "Other Views" on p. 112 the Bhrigu Sutras quote two further authorities, and these give Rahu and Ketu different lines. The Rahu lines are these. Phaldeepika: the person will be wealthy and long-lived, but will suffer from diseases of the anus, from enemies and from the evil effect of malefic planets. Chamatkar Chintamani: the person’s enemies will be destroyed, and he will be powerful, virile and wealthy.
The earlier version of this page shortened Phaldeepika to a single word, "wealthy". That dropped half the line. Read whole, Phaldeepika is mixed: material prosperity and a long life on one side, a named ailment and trouble from opponents on the other. Chamatkar Chintamani is the most favourable of the three, and it is the one that reads the house of enemies as a house of victory over them. The two authorities therefore disagree on the very matter the 6th is about: one says the enemies trouble the person, the other that they are destroyed.
For comparison, the same page gives Ketu in the 6th different lines: Phaldeepika makes the person generous, determined, famous and in authority, and Chamatkar Chintamani gives cattle and health, with a loss of reputation through the maternal uncle and a narrow mind. Those are on Ketu in the 6th house; they are mentioned here only to show that the "other authorities" really do separate the nodes where the sutra does not.
What the classical sources say, side by side
| Source | Rahu in the 6th |
|---|---|
| Bhrigu Sutras, Sutras 14-16 (p. 111; shared with Ketu) | Tolerant and very happy; with the Moon joined, poor and a thief, with an improper liaison |
| Phaldeepika, as quoted in the Bhrigu Sutras (p. 112) | Wealthy and long-lived; disease of the anus; trouble from enemies and from malefics |
| Chamatkar Chintamani, as quoted there (p. 112) | Enemies destroyed; powerful, virile and wealthy |
| Saravali Ch. 12 Sl. 3-5 | Rahu in the 3rd, 6th or 11th from the Ascendant, aspected by benefics, destroys "all evils" (a chapter on evils cancelled at birth) |
| Saravali Ch. 30 | No line for Rahu or Ketu in any house |
| BPHS Ch. 48 Sl. 18-20 | Dashas of grahas in the 3rd, 6th and 11th unfavourable; bracketed: Rahu and Ketu give favourable results in Sahaj, Ari and Labh |
| BPHS Ch. 55 Sl. 1-4 | Rahu’s own sub-period good in the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th if Rahu is also in Cancer, Scorpio, Virgo or Sagittarius |
| BPHS Ch. 44 Sl. 22-24 | Rahu in Ari, Randhr or Vyaya gives difficulties in its Dasha, but not if a benefic joins or aspects it |
| BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6 | Any Dasha lord in Ari, Randhr or Vyaya: unfavourable |
| BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 34-43 | Good Rahu houses listed as 1, 4, 7, 10, 11 and 3; troubled houses the 8th and 12th; the 6th in neither list |
| Chatterjee, Vol. II p. 121, rule 8 | Rahu in the 3rd, 6th or 11th from Lagna or Moon: material wealth in its periods, more with a benefic or kendra-lord aspect |
Count the lines. The sutra’s default, Chamatkar Chintamani, Saravali’s benefic-aspect clause, BPHS Ch. 48 and Chatterjee read the placement well. Phaldeepika is mixed. BPHS Ch. 55 reads it well only in four signs. BPHS Ch. 44 lists the 6th with the 8th and 12th as difficult, with a release clause, and the general Dasha test of Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6 puts it on the unfavourable side. Rahu’s own Dasha passage, Ch. 47 Sl. 34-43, leaves the 6th out of both its good and its bad list. The weight is favourable, but less one-sided than a quick summary suggests.
The conflict inside BPHS, and the clause that resolves it
The rahu-mahadasha page calls the 6th "contested inside one book", and the wording is fair. Ch. 48 says the nodes do well in the 3rd, 6th and 11th. Ch. 55 names the 6th as good for Rahu’s own sub-period, in four signs. Ch. 44 names it with the 8th and 12th for difficulty, and Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6 does the same for every Dasha lord. But the Ch. 44 passage carries its own exit: Rahu will not give those difficulties if it receives a drishti from, or is joined with, a benefic. Saravali’s favourable line carries the same condition from the other side, a benefic aspect, and so does Chatterjee’s rule 8 in its stronger form. Read together, the sources converge on a single test: a Rahu in the 6th reached by a benefic is read well by every source here, and one with no benefic contact is the case on which they split.
The same chapter, Ch. 44 Sl. 22-24, also lists the houses in which the nodes act as marakas, and for Capricorn and Scorpio rising it names Rahu a maraka outright. The 6th is not one of the maraka houses. The label is named here because the sloka is the source of the 6th-house caution; this app does not compute lifespan and this page does not read the maraka clause further.
The commentator: upachaya logic, and what he saw in practice
The Bhrigu Sutras’ translator-commentator works the problem through in the Mars chapter (pp. 52-53), and his argument applies to Rahu directly. Malefics in the upachaya houses are believed to give good results, he writes, on the logic that a malefic destroys the significations of the house it occupies; in the 6th that means destroying enemies and obstacles. He cites Jataka Desmarga for the rule that malefics are strong in the 3rd, 6th and 11th. Then he objects. The 6th also signifies disease, and if a malefic there freed the person from enemies it should free him from illness too, which the sutras themselves do not claim for Mars. In practice, he says, Mars or any other malefic in the 6th tends to bring illness.
His illustration is a chart with Mars and Rahu together in the 6th, a person in poor health throughout life and troubled by enemies. The 6th, he concludes, "while being an Upachaya house is also a Dusthana", and the Bhrigu Sutras "have apparently not taken this into account". He then quotes Jataka Desmarga again, this time declaring the 6th, 8th and 12th evil houses whose occupants produce evil results. So the commentary contains both halves of the argument, and it leans, on the evidence of one chart, toward the cautious reading when a malefic joins Rahu there. That is one example, not a rule; but it is the only case in the corpus that shows Rahu in the 6th in an actual chart.
Saravali: one line, and a silence
Saravali’s chapter on planets in the houses, Ch. 30, does not mention Rahu or Ketu at all; a search of the whole chapter finds neither name. The Bhrigu Sutras say so too, at the head of their node chapter: Brihat Jataka and Saravali "have not dealt with" the nodes in the houses. Nothing on this page fills that gap.
Saravali does mention Rahu in the 6th once, in a different context. Ch. 12 is about evils cancelled at birth, and Sl. 3-5 say that Rahu in the 3rd, 6th or 11th from the Ascendant, aspected by benefics, destroys all evils, as the wind carries away a heap of cotton. The line is protective rather than descriptive: it says nothing about character or career, only that this placement, with a benefic aspect, cancels other bad indications in the chart. Earlier pages on this site paraphrased it as a general favourable reading; the context is narrower than that. Sl. 10-11 of the same chapter give the other Rahu line, about Rahu in the Ascendant in three signs, which does not touch the 6th.
BPHS on the sub-periods: every rule that names the 6th
The Antar Dasha chapters of BPHS (Ch. 52-60) set out Rahu’s sub-period inside each Mahadasha, each with its own house conditions. Some count Rahu from the Lagna, some from the Mahadasha lord. The rows below are the ones in which the 6th from the Lagna is named, by house name or as an upachaya. Where the text prescribes remedial measures for the bad cases, this app does not repeat them.
| Mahadasha | BPHS | What the rule says about Rahu’s sub-period with Rahu in the 6th |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Ch. 52 Sl. 23-26 | Rahu in an upachaya from Lagna: recognition from the ruler, good fortune, name and fame, a son, happiness in the family, with some distress to wife and children |
| Moon | Ch. 53 Sl. 15-16 | Rahu in Sahaj, Ari, Karm or Labh, or aspected by benefics: success in ventures, conveyances and garments from the ruler, gains "in the South-West direction" |
| Rahu (own) | Ch. 55 Sl. 1-4 | Rahu in Sahaj, Ari, Karm or Labh AND in Cancer, Scorpio, Virgo or Sagittarius: a kingdom, family happiness, increase in property |
| Mercury | Ch. 58 Sl. 54-55 | Rahu in Dhan or Ari: the gravest wording in the set (the text names a danger to life), followed by remedial measures |
| Venus | Ch. 60 Sl. 38-39 | Rahu in Sahaj, Ari, Karm or Labh: enjoyment, destruction of enemies, enthusiasm, the ruler’s favour; good for about five months, then fevers and indigestion toward the end |
Four of the five rules are favourable, and three of them use the same four-house group, Sahaj, Ari, Karm and Labh: the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th, the upachayas. The exception is the Mercury chapter, which pairs the 6th with the 2nd for its harshest line. That one sloka is the strongest single statement against a 6th-house Rahu anywhere in BPHS, and it applies only to Rahu’s sub-period inside Mercury’s Mahadasha. Elsewhere the chapters count from the Mahadasha lord: almost every one treats Rahu in the 8th or 12th from the Dasha lord as adverse, and Rahu in the 2nd or 7th from the Lagna as a cause of physical distress. A 6th-house Rahu is in neither of those Lagna houses, and its distance from the Dasha lord changes with each Mahadasha.
Two BPHS rules reach the 6th only through a sign. Ch. 55 Sl. 1-4, Rahu’s own sub-period, needs Cancer, Scorpio, Virgo or Sagittarius as well as an upachaya. Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 give Rahu’s exaltation in Taurus, moolatrikona in Gemini and own sign in Aquarius, with "some sages" adding Virgo, and promise wealth, conveyances, a new house and recognition from foreign governments in the Dasha of a Rahu so placed. A Rahu in the 6th in one of those signs qualifies under that clause regardless of house.
Rahu in the 6th by rising sign
| Rising sign | Rahu in | Rahu’s dispositor (6th lord) | What the texts attach to that sign |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Virgo | Mercury | Own sign ("some sages", BPHS Ch. 47; Sanketnidhi); in the Ch. 55 list |
| Taurus | Libra | Venus | - |
| Gemini | Scorpio | Mars | Debilitated (Uttara Kalamrita; JSS); in the Ch. 55 list |
| Cancer | Sagittarius | Jupiter | Debilitated (JSS); in the Ch. 55 list |
| Leo | Capricorn | Saturn | Own sign (JSS) |
| Virgo | Aquarius | Saturn | Own sign (BPHS Ch. 47; Uttara Kalamrita) |
| Libra | Pisces | Jupiter | - |
| Scorpio | Aries | Mars | - |
| Sagittarius | Taurus | Venus | Exalted (BPHS Ch. 47; Uttara Kalamrita; JSS) |
| Capricorn | Gemini | Mercury | Moolatrikona (BPHS; Uttara Kalamrita); exalted (Sanketnidhi; JSS) |
| Aquarius | Cancer | Moon | In the Ch. 55 list |
| Pisces | Leo | Sun | - |
The table shows how badly the schemes disagree. Gemini rising puts Rahu in Scorpio, which Uttara Kalamrita and Rao call its debilitation, yet Scorpio is one of the four signs in which BPHS Ch. 55 makes Rahu’s own sub-period excellent from the 6th. Sagittarius rising gives the one sign all three of BPHS, Uttara Kalamrita and Rao agree is Rahu’s exaltation, Taurus. Capricorn rising puts Rahu in Gemini, its moolatrikona in BPHS and its exaltation in Sanketnidhi and Rao. And Leo rising puts it in Capricorn, which only Rao calls Rahu’s own sign. A writer who says "Rahu is strong in the 6th" without naming the scheme is saying less than it sounds.
Rahu speaks for others: the agent rule
The lord of Rahu’s sign is the 6th lord, so Ch. 34 Sl. 16 sends the reading to the planet that rules enemies, illness and debt. The commentary closing the Bhrigu Sutras’ node chapter (p. 115) ranks the voices on behalf of a "strong school of thought" that the nodes own no signs: a graha conjoined with Rahu first, a graha aspecting it second, and the lord of the house only when Rahu is neither joined nor aspected.
- A benefic joined with Rahu in the 6th is the strongest single factor on this page: it is Rahu’s first voice by the commentary, the release in Ch. 44, the condition in Saravali, and the stronger form of Chatterjee’s rule 8.
- The Moon joined with Rahu is the one conjunction the Bhrigu sutra singles out against the placement.
- A malefic joined with Rahu is the commentator’s own example chart, Mars and Rahu in the 6th, read as lifelong ill health and enemies.
- Ketu is always in the 12th and always aspects the 6th, so Rahu is never wholly unaspected in this app’s scheme; the commentary’s third step, the house lord, applies only if Ketu’s aspect is not counted.
Uttara Kalamrita, as the Bhrigu Sutras summarise it (p. 115), adds three points. A node "endowed with strength" gives effects like the planet owning the house it occupies or the planet it joins. A node with a trikona lord, or the two nodes in the 9th and 10th, gives prosperity. And the nodes become auspicious in a kendra or trikona or when associated with the lord of one. The 6th is neither, so the second and third routes are closed; only the first, the 6th lord’s own condition, applies. Neither the Yoga Karaka rule of BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 17, which needs Rahu in a kendra, nor Ch. 21’s line on Rahu in an angle or trine applies here. Rahu works in the 6th, if it works, by the upachaya route alone.
BPHS Ch. 11 Sl. 14-16 add one caution: a house is harmed when its lord is joined with the lord of an evil house. That rule concerns the company of other house lords, not Rahu, but the 6th lord it names is the same planet Ch. 34 Sl. 16 makes Rahu’s dispositor here. Its house, its company and its other sign are worth checking on both counts.
Ketu in the 12th and the question of aspects
This app gives Rahu the 7th aspect only, following BPHS Ch. 26 Sl. 2-5, which name special aspects for Saturn, Jupiter and Mars and do not mention the nodes. From the 6th the aspect falls on the 12th, where Ketu always is. So both nodes sit in dusthanas, on the 6th-12th axis. The 12th-house side is on Ketu in the 12th house, and the reverse arrangement on Rahu in the 12th house, which BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 40-43 read far less kindly.
Rao’s Jyotisha Siddhanta Sara (pp. 82-83) disagrees: it gives Rahu the 3rd, 7th and 10th aspects, like Saturn’s. Under that scheme a 6th-house Rahu would also aspect the 8th and the 3rd, putting a second dusthana and the house of effort under Rahu’s glance. The same book says that a well-placed Rahu bestows power and material success, which is close to Chamatkar Chintamani’s line, but it gives no per-house reading of its own. The app follows BPHS, so its aspect counts and yoga tests ignore the 3rd and 10th aspects entirely.
Since both nodes count as malefics in the engine (BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 11), a graha in the 6th or 12th is aspected by both, which lowers its aspect score in the Shad Bala calculator and rules a benefic there out of Adhi and Amala Yoga in the yogas calculator.
A modern view: Chatterjee’s rules
S. S. Chatterjee’s Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II (2000) is the one modern book on our shelf with several lines on this placement. It is one author’s collection, partly drawn from magazine articles, and is labelled as such here. On p. 116, discussing the 6th, he writes that the nodes there give good results: physical and mental strength, though the early life will be "under shadow". On the same page, for Taurus rising, Venus as 6th lord in the 6th is good, but Mars or Rahu should not join it.
His list of rules for good and bad periods (pp. 121-125) has four that bear on a 6th-house Rahu. Rule 8 is favourable: Rahu in the 3rd, 6th or 11th from the Lagna or the Moon brings material wealth in its Dasha or Bhukti, more so with a benefic or kendra-lord aspect. Rule 13 warns that a planet closely conjunct a node gives poor results in its own Dasha, the closer the worse. Rule 14 is the hard one: Rahu in the 6th, 8th or 12th and aspected by the lords of those houses makes its Dasha very adverse. Rule 22 adds that nodes placed 6th, 8th or 12th from their own dispositors give very bad results.
Rule 22 has an odd consequence in this house. Rahu’s dispositor is the 6th lord; if that lord is in the 11th, 1st or 7th of the chart, Rahu falls 8th, 6th or 12th from it and trips the rule. Rule 14 needs a 6th, 8th or 12th lord to aspect Rahu, so those three lords are worth locating. Finally, on p. 318, Chatterjee says that Rahu in the 2nd, 6th or 10th generally helps service, profession and success, provided it is strong and preferably friendly to the Ascendant lord, which he takes to mean Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius rising.
How this app reads Rahu in the 6th
The engine treats the 6th as a dusthana in its readings, and it gives Rahu no dignity in any sign, so the 6th is where the app is furthest from the sources. On the Kundali page the planet-in-house line is the testing one: "entanglement in real disputes under affliction". The favourable line written for the 6th, "real strength against rivals and obstacles - Rahu does well as a natural malefic in this upachaya house", is close to Chamatkar Chintamani, but it can never be shown: it needs a strong dignity, and it is barred in the 6th, 8th and 12th in any case.
The Mahadasha line applies BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6, which puts the 6th, 8th and 12th on the unfavourable side for every Dasha lord, so it reads testing. The quality label goes further: it reads challenging, because the 6th is a dusthana. That is the bare Sl. 5-6 rule. The Ch. 48 exception for the nodes, the Ch. 55 reading, the four favourable sub-period rules and the benefic release of Ch. 44 are not coded. The rahu-mahadasha page states the gap plainly: a Rahu in the 6th shows challenging although several BPHS passages favour it.
Timing: the Mahadasha and the transit
For Rahu’s 18-year Vimshottari period, the practical reading follows the convergence above. With a benefic joining or aspecting Rahu, Ch. 44’s difficulties are released and Ch. 48 stands. Without one, the sources split. Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 add that a Dasha lord in the first third of its sign gives its results at the start of the period, in the second third in the middle, in the last third at the end, and that the order is always reversed for the nodes. Dates come from the Vimshottari Dasha calculator; the sub-periods are on the Rahu Mahadasha page.
BPHS also has a rashi-dasha chapter, Ch. 50, which is a different system from Vimshottari. Its Sl. 51-52 say that the natural significations of the house Rahu occupies are harmed at the start of the Dasha. Applied to the 6th, whose significations are enemies, disease and debt, that is one more line that can be read in either direction, and the text does not resolve it. This app does not compute that Dasha.
In transit the Gochar calculator counts from the natal Moon. For the natural malefics, Rahu included, the 3rd, 6th and 11th from the Moon are among the good positions, so Rahu in the 6th from the Moon is shown as favourable, described as gains through direct effort. Chatterjee (p. 318) agrees for transits through the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th from the Moon, Sun or Ascendant. That transit rule has no dusthana caveat; the natal app rule has nothing else.
A worked chart
We ran the engine for 10 March 1995, 10:00 IST, New Delhi (re-run on 9 October 2026; every figure below matches the earlier run). Taurus rises at 1.53 degrees, so Libra is the 6th. Rahu is at 14.37 Libra in Swati pada 3, in the 6th house; Ketu is at the same degree of Aries in the 12th. Rahu’s dispositor Venus rules both the 1st and the 6th for Taurus rising, and is at 14.77 Capricorn in the 9th, a trikona. Mars, retrograde and debilitated in Cancer in the 3rd, aspects the 6th by its 4th-house aspect. Jupiter is in Scorpio in the 7th, and its aspects fall on Pisces, Taurus and Cancer, not on Libra. The Moon is at 3.63 Gemini in the 2nd.
- Placement line: Neutral, favourable false, the 6th-house testing sentence.
- Mahadasha line: testing; quality challenging.
- Dates: a Mars balance to 13 October 1996, then Rahu’s Mahadasha to 13 October 2014.
- Kaal Sarp: not present.
Checked by hand against the sources. The house meets Ch. 48. The Moon does not join Rahu, so the sutra’s reversal does not apply and its default, tolerant and very happy, stands. Libra is not one of Ch. 55’s four signs, so Rahu’s own sub-period does not get that sloka’s promise. The dispositor, here also the Lagna lord, is in a trikona, the better side of Ch. 34 Sl. 16, and Rahu falls 10th from it, so Chatterjee’s rule 22 is not triggered. Taurus is one of the rising signs for which Chatterjee’s p. 318 line applies.
Against that, no benefic joins or aspects Rahu; Mars and Ketu are the only influences, so Ch. 44’s release and Saravali’s condition are not met, and by the commentary’s order Rahu speaks first for Mars, a malefic, debilitated, ruling the 7th and 12th for Taurus rising. That is close to the commentator’s own example of Mars with Rahu, though here Mars aspects rather than joins. Counted from the Moon in Gemini, Rahu in Libra is in the 5th, not one of Chatterjee’s houses. Rahu at 14.37 degrees is in the middle third of its sign, so Ch. 47 Sl. 3-4 put its main results in the middle of the period, reversed or not. This is exactly the case on which the sources split, and the app’s "challenging" takes one side of it without saying so.
Checking Rahu in your own 6th house
- Cast the chart in the birth chart calculator with an exact time and confirm Rahu’s house.
- List grahas joined with Rahu and those aspecting the 6th. A benefic is the condition that settles the conflict.
- Check whether the Moon joins Rahu; that is the condition on which the shared sutra reverses.
- Find the 6th lord, Rahu’s dispositor, note its house, and count Rahu from it for Chatterjee’s rule 22.
- Note Rahu’s sign against the table above, and whether it is one of Ch. 55’s four signs.
- Count Rahu from the Moon too, for Chatterjee’s second count, then read the dates and the sub-period rows.
- Is Rahu in the 6th house good?
- Most sources read it well: the shared Bhrigu sutra (unless the Moon joins), Chamatkar Chintamani, Saravali with a benefic aspect, BPHS Ch. 48 and Chatterjee. Phaldeepika is mixed. BPHS Ch. 44 lists it as difficult unless a benefic joins or aspects Rahu.
- Why does the app say challenging for the Rahu Mahadasha?
- Its quality label marks any Dasha lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th as challenging, following BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 5-6. The node exceptions in Ch. 48, Ch. 55 and the sub-period chapters are not coded. It is a known gap, stated on the Rahu Mahadasha page.
- Is the Bhrigu sutra for Rahu in the 6th the same as for Ketu?
- Yes. The Bhrigu Sutras give one set of sutras for both nodes in each house. Only the quoted authorities, Phaldeepika and Chamatkar Chintamani, give the two nodes separate lines.
- What does the commentator say about the 6th?
- That it is both an upachaya and a dusthana, that the sutras appear not to have taken the second label into account, and that in practice a malefic in the 6th tends to bring illness, shown with a chart that has Mars and Rahu there.
- Does Saravali say anything about Rahu in the 6th?
- Its house chapter, Ch. 30, does not mention the nodes. Ch. 12 says that Rahu in the 3rd, 6th or 11th aspected by benefics cancels evils at birth, which is a protective rule rather than a description.
- Does Rahu in the 6th mean illness?
- The house covers illness in BPHS Ch. 11 and Ch. 17, Phaldeepika names one ailment, and the commentator links malefics in the 6th to disease. Chamatkar Chintamani and the sutra do not. Nothing on this page is medical advice.
- What does Ketu in the 12th add?
- It is always opposite and aspects the 6th. See Ketu in the 12th house.
- How does the 6th compare with the 3rd and 11th?
