Dates: when Rahu is in Sagittarius and Ketu in Gemini

The node used is the mean node, not the true (oscillating) one. The mean node's motion is uniform and always retrograde, which is why the rows below have no re-entries: Rahu crosses into Sagittarius from the sign after it and leaves into the sign before it, once per pass. Ketu holds Gemini for exactly the same span. Window: 1990 to 2050.

There are four Sagittarius stays in the window: 12 April 1991 to 30 October 1992, 17 November 2009 to 6 June 2011, 23 June 2028 to 11 January 2030, and 29 January 2047 to 17 August 2048. The 2028 ingress is at 21:57 UTC on 23 June, which is 03:27 on 24 June in India - a case where the Indian calendar date is a day later than the UTC one. Each stay follows Capricorn and leads into Scorpio.

Counted from your Moon: the house Rahu and Ketu fall in

Every row below starts from a natal Moon sign. Counting that sign as the 1st, Sagittarius gives Rahu's house and Gemini gives Ketu's, always six houses apart. The engine's verdicts follow one rule for both nodes, the malefic set from its Gochara source: 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th testing; 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 11th favourable; 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th neutral. The Aries Moon carries Rahu's intensified flag (Sagittarius is its 9th, neutral) and the Taurus Moon carries Ketu's (Gemini is its 2nd, favourable) with Rahu in its 8th, testing. For a Pisces Moon Rahu is in the 10th (neutral) and Ketu in the 4th (testing); a Virgo Moon has the reverse, Rahu testing in the 4th. Sagittarius and Gemini Moons each have a node on the Moon sign.

What the classical texts say about the nodes in transit

Of the books in this library, Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II gives the clearest Rahu transit rule ("Transit effects of Rahu and Ketu", pp. 317-318): the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th from the Moon, Sun or Ascendant are good for Rahu, and the Moon sign itself plus the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 12th are "very bad". For Rahu in Sagittarius the good list reads Cancer, Libra, Aquarius and Pisces, the bad list Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn. Where it parts from the engine is specific: the Scorpio Moon, for whom Sagittarius is the 2nd (engine favourable, book bad), and the Pisces Moon, for whom it is the 10th (book good, engine neutral). The 9th is on neither of the book's lists.

Neither BPHS nor Saravali in this library gives a transit reading for Rahu in Sagittarius. Advanced Predictive Astrology's case notes mention Rahu transiting various signs in individual charts, but each such remark is tied to that chart's natal positions - the 9th from natal Rahu, the natal Venus - and none is a rule about the sign.

The sign itself: Sagittarius with Gemini opposite

BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 1/2: "The Multrikonas of Rahu and Ketu are Mithun and Dhanu." Gemini is Rahu's, Sagittarius Ketu's - so on this axis each node sits in the other's moolatrikona, the reverse of the Gemini-Sagittarius arrangement nine years either side. The Bhrigu Sutras record the old dispute over node signs; this app sets them aside and engine-facts gives Rahu in Sagittarius and Ketu in Gemini as neutral. The lords are Jupiter (Sagittarius) and Mercury (Gemini).

The Virgo Moon is the row where the sources agree most plainly on this axis: Sagittarius is its 4th, testing in the engine and "very bad" in Advanced Predictive Astrology, while Ketu in Gemini is its 10th, neutral. The Pisces Moon in the worked example below is the mirror case, with Ketu in the 4th and Rahu in the 10th - and there the sources part, because the book counts Rahu's 10th as good.

The 2028-2030 stay sits close to the present. Rahu enters Capricorn on 5 December 2026, stays 566 days, and then crosses into Sagittarius on 23 June 2028; the Sagittarius stay is also 566 days. For anyone tracking a run of passes, the dates chain without gaps: each exit time in this app's output is the next sign's entry time, to the minute.

For people born during the 2009-2011 stay - natal Rahu in Sagittarius - the 2028-2030 pass is their first nodal return. Advanced Predictive Astrology calls that 1.5-year return "quite rewarding" when natal Rahu is strong, while in the same section saying the nodes give poor results over their natal signs. Both statements are the book's; the engine computes neither, and it cannot tell from a Moon sign alone where anyone's natal Rahu lies. The birth chart shows that; the transit tables on this page do not depend on it.

Worked example: a Pisces Moon from 2026 to 2031

Take a natal Moon in Pisces. Sagittarius is the 10th sign from it and Gemini the 4th. The three passes from December 2026:

1. 1.5 December 2026 to 23 June 2028: Rahu in Capricorn, the 11th from this Moon (favourable, as the 11th is for every planet); Ketu in Cancer, the 5th (neutral).
2. 2.23 June 2028 to 11 January 2030: Rahu in Sagittarius, the 10th (neutral); Ketu in Gemini, the 4th (testing).
3. 3.11 January 2030 to 31 July 2031: Rahu in Scorpio, the 9th (neutral, flagged intensified for Rahu); Ketu in Taurus, the 3rd (favourable).

In the Sagittarius step the only testing verdict comes from Ketu in the 4th. Rahu's 10th is neutral in the engine and good in Advanced Predictive Astrology - one of the two rows on this page where the sources part.
