In short
The 11th lord in the 6th house is the ruler of gains placed in the house of illness, rivals and debt. BPHS Ch. 24 Sl. 126 is one of the chapter's harsh verses: illness, cruelty, living abroad and trouble from enemies, reported here as the text's claim. For Gemini and Sagittarius rising the 11th lord also owns the 6th, sits in its own sign there, and the engine reports Harsha Yoga.
What the placement means
"The 11th lord in the 6th house" is the lord of gains, income and elder siblings standing in the house of illness, enemies, debts, litigation and service.
The 6th is a dusthana, and both houses are upachayas. Counted from the 11th, the 6th is the 8th: the house of obstacles relative to gains. Both houses are also among the three whose lords Ch. 34 calls evil. Houses are whole-sign from the Ascendant (whole-sign houses).
The two houses involved
The 11th house (Labha Bhava) governs gains, income, friends and elder siblings.
The 6th house (Ari Bhava) governs enemies, illness, debts and service.
What BPHS says about the 11th lord in the 6th
Ch. 24 Sl. 126: if the lord of Labh is in the Ari Bhava, the native "will be afflicted by diseases", be cruel, live in foreign places and be troubled by enemies. The bphs-alt text agrees. It is one of the plainest negative verses in the 11th lord's set. This app reports it as the text's claim about a configuration; it is not a forecast for a person, and the illness clause is not medical advice.
Each clause comes from the 6th house's own list (illness, enmity) or from the idea of displacement ("foreign places"); none mentions gains at all. BPHS then qualifies it in Sl. 145-148: results come in full, half or a quarter by strength, a planet owning two houses gives both lordships' results, and contrary results cancel. For this placement the second rule is decisive, as the table shows.
When the 11th lord also owns the 6th
For Gemini rising Mars owns both the 6th (Scorpio) and the 11th (Aries); for Sagittarius rising Venus owns the 6th (Taurus) and the 11th (Libra). In those rows the 11th lord in the 6th is a 6th lord in its own sign, and the engine reports Harsha Yoga, one of the three Vipareeta Raja Yogas: the 6th lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th. The engine cites the modern case book Advanced Predictive Astrology for that family of yogas; BPHS Ch. 24 itself reads the 6th lord in the 6th (Sl. 66) as enmity with kinsmen but friendship with others and middling happiness in wealth.
Ch. 42 Sl. 13 adds a rule about association: a graha joined with the 6th, 8th or 12th lord, without a Kon lord's aspect, harms finances in its Dasha. The 11th lord in the 6th meets the 6th lord whenever that lord is at home. The engine does not test Sl. 13. Saravali and the Bhrigu Sutras in this corpus give no verse here.
Which planet it is, Ascendant by Ascendant
The engine's table with sign-only dignity from natural relationships (a real chart can shift the tier).
| Ascendant | 11th lord | 6th house sign | Sign-only dignity there | Other house it rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Saturn | Virgo | Friendly sign | 10th |
| Taurus | Jupiter | Libra | Enemy sign | 8th |
| Gemini | Mars | Scorpio | Own sign | 6th |
| Cancer | Venus | Sagittarius | Neutral | 4th |
| Leo | Mercury | Capricorn | Neutral | 2nd |
| Virgo | Moon | Aquarius | Neutral | None (a luminary rules one sign) |
| Libra | Sun | Pisces | Friendly sign | None (a luminary rules one sign) |
| Scorpio | Mercury | Aries | Neutral | 8th |
| Sagittarius | Venus | Taurus | Own sign | 6th |
| Capricorn | Mars | Gemini | Enemy sign | 4th |
| Aquarius | Jupiter | Cancer | Exalted | 2nd |
| Pisces | Saturn | Leo | Enemy sign | 12th |
Aquarius rising puts Jupiter, owner of the 2nd and 11th, exalted in Cancer. Gemini and Sagittarius rising are the own-sign (Harsha) rows. No row is debilitated. Three are enemy signs: Jupiter in Libra (Taurus rising), Mars in Gemini (Capricorn) and Saturn in Leo (Pisces). Aries and Libra rising give friendly signs (Saturn in Virgo, the Sun in Pisces).
A strong planet in an unfavourable verse
Because Sl. 126 is unfavourable, a strong 11th lord here gives it more fully, not less. Aquarius rising is the clearest example: an exalted Jupiter in the 6th is, on Sl. 145-148's scale, the full-strength case of the verse, and its second lordship, the 2nd, a wealth house, brings results that may vary or offset it. In the Harsha rows the offset is the yoga reading the engine gives, which comes from a different source; in BPHS's own terms, Sl. 66 for the 6th lord at home and Sl. 126 for the 11th lord in the 6th both apply.
The other rows sort by what the 11th lord brings with it. For Taurus and Scorpio rising it also owns the 8th, so two dusthana-related lordships, the 8th and the 6th by placement, meet in one planet; Jupiter for Taurus is in Libra, an enemy sign, and Mercury for Scorpio is in Aries, neutral. For Cancer and Capricorn rising it owns the 4th, an angle: Venus in Sagittarius (neutral) and Mars in Gemini (enemy). For Leo and Aquarius rising it owns the 2nd, a wealth house: Mercury in Capricorn (neutral) and Jupiter exalted in Cancer. For Aries rising it owns the 10th: Saturn in Virgo, friendly. For Virgo and Libra rising the 11th lord is a luminary with no second house. Each pairing changes what Sl. 145-148's "both lordships" rule adds to Sl. 126.
Strength changes the reading
After dignity, look at company and combustion. Benefics joining the lord in the 6th are the relief BPHS mentions in neighbouring 6th-house verses (Sl. 18, the 2nd lord in the 6th with a benefic, gains through enemies).
From the 6th, every graha aspects the 12th. A Mars 11th lord also aspects the 9th and the 1st; a Jupiter the 10th and the 2nd; a Saturn the 8th and the 3rd. None of them aspects the 11th from here.
How it sits beside the neighbouring placements
The reverse, the 6th lord in the 11th (Sl. 71), is milder: gain of wealth through enemies, virtue and adventure, with somewhat less happiness from children. Both together are a parivartana between two of Ch. 34's evil houses. The 11th lord in the 5th (Sl. 125) is favourable and the 11th lord in the 7th (Sl. 127) gives gains through the spouse's relatives.
Worked example: Gemini rising, Mars in its own Scorpio
The engine's deterministic search found: 14 March 1986, 11:36 IST, New Delhi, Ascendant Gemini 0.72. Anyone can re-enter it in the birth chart calculator.
- With Gemini rising the 11th house is Aries and the 11th lord is Mars, which also owns Scorpio, the 6th.
- Mars is in Scorpio at 29.07 degrees, Jyeshtha pada 4, in the 6th, "Own sign"; not retrograde, not combust.
- Saturn shares Scorpio at 16.0, "Enemy sign"; for Gemini rising Saturn owns the 8th and 9th.
- The engine reports Harsha Yoga (Mars, the 6th lord, in the 6th) and Sarala Yoga (Saturn, the 8th lord, in the 6th).
This is the Harsha row in practice: an own-sign 6th-and-11th lord at home in the 6th. Saturn beside it is the 8th lord, so the 6th holds two dusthana lords, and Ch. 42 Sl. 13's association rule would ask whether a Kon lord aspects them. The Lagna lord Mercury is in Pisces in the 10th, debilitated, retrograde and combust; Venus is exalted beside it, and the engine reports Malavya Yoga and a Kendra-Kona link between Mercury and Venus. On Sl. 145-148's scale an own-sign Mars gives Sl. 126 fully, with its 6th lordship's own verse (Sl. 66) alongside.
How often the placement occurs
Of 3,000 sampled birth moments 1985-2060, the engine found the 11th lord in the 6th house in 228, or 7.6%. That is a count of moments, not people.

Questions about the 11th lord in the 6th
- What does BPHS say about the 11th lord in the 6th house?
- Ch. 24 Sl. 126: illness, cruelty, living in foreign places and trouble from enemies. Sl. 145-148 scale this by strength and by the other lordship. It is the text's claim, not a forecast or medical advice.
- When does it form Harsha Yoga?
- When the 11th lord also owns the 6th: Mars for Gemini rising and Venus for Sagittarius rising. The engine reports Harsha Yoga whenever the 6th lord is in the 6th, 8th or 12th.
- Does it mean living abroad?
- The verse includes "living in foreign places" as a classical clause. This app does not predict relocation from a placement.
- Is a strong 11th lord in the 6th better?
- BPHS Sl. 145-148 say a strong planet gives its results fully, and this verse is unfavourable. What can offset it is the second lordship, such as the 2nd for Aquarius rising.
- What does the reverse placement say?
- The 6th lord in the 11th (Sl. 71): gains through enemies, virtue and adventure, with somewhat less happiness from children.
- How common is it?
- It occurred in 228 of 3,000 sampled birth moments 1985-2060, 7.6%.
