In short

Of the 93 windows this app samples in January 2027, eight pass every general marriage rule: 3:30 PM IST on Friday 8 January, all three windows on Thursday 14 January, 6:40 AM on Friday 15 January and all three on Wednesday 20 January. Each has a favoured nakshatra, an unavoided tithi, the waxing Moon, a favoured weekday and no Rahu Kaal overlap at its start. This is a filter on five general factors, not a score and not a promise.

This page applies this app's marriage muhurat rules to January 2027. The engine behind the Muhurat calculator and the Muhurat feature scores three 90-minute windows a day, at 06:40, 09:15 and 15:30 IST, so January has 93. Of those, 40 have a nakshatra the engine favours for marriage, 23 overlap Rahu Kaal, and 8 pass every general rule.

This app's muhurat engine (a check script), run 2026-10-22. Nakshatra and tithi are read at each window's start.

No other window passes every rule. Another 20 miss by exactly one factor: the nakshatra list (9), the waxing Moon (5), the weekday (3), Rahu Kaal (2) or the tithi list (1). The ones that touch a junction span are named below.

How the days are chosen: the five general factors

A window "passes every rule" when all five are favourable: the Moon's nakshatra, tithi and paksha at the start of the window, Rahu Kaal and the weekday. That counts factors on the engine's lists; it is neither the engine's score nor a ruling from any text.

RuleFavourable for marriage in this engineWhere it comes from
Moon nakshatraRohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada or RevatiThe engine's list; no text in the library holds it.
TithiNot the 4th, 8th, 9th or 14th tithi of either half (the engine counts 1 to 30: 4, 8, 9, 14 in the bright half, 19, 23, 24, 29 in the dark half)The engine's list. Its comment calls 4, 9, 14 (and 19, 24, 29) Rikta and 8 and 23 Ashtami, and says no source book lists tithis to avoid. BPHS Ch. 89 Sl. 1-7 asks for a day without Rikta-Bhadra Dosha but does not say which tithis are Rikta.
PakshaShukla, the waxing MoonBPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 11 and Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 9 call the waning Moon a malefic; Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 36 has benefics strong in the bright half. Reading that as good for a beginning is the engine's step.
WeekdayMonday, Wednesday, Thursday or FridayThe engine's list; no citation.
Rahu KaalThe window does not overlap itThe engine's weekday table, after Drik Panchang as its comment records. No text in the library mentions Rahu Kaal.

Two personal factors, the Moon's house from your ascendant (or Moon sign) and your Personal Day number, are added only in the calculator and the in-app feature; the engine's marriage house list (1, 5, 7, 9, 11) cites no book either.

What the texts name for weddings

BPHS Ch. 70 Sl. 19-20 says functions like marriage are not to be held while the Sun or mean Jupiter transits a rashi with many dots in the Sun's Ashtakavarga, and are to be held when it has many rekhas; Sl. 21-23 bars the Moon's transit through a rashi with many dots in the Moon's. Ch. 72 Sl. 30-31 makes a rashi's Samudaya total the first check. The Ashtakavarga calculator counts the favourable marks, which this BPHS translation calls Rekhas, as bindus. Saravali Ch. 7 Sl. 7-13 lists marriage among the matters Venus rules, with no weekday, nakshatra or tithi.

A third rule is gandanta. BPHS Ch. 92 Sl. 1 reads birth, travel and auspicious functions such as marriage at a junction of tithis, nakshatras or lagnas as inauspicious; this site does not repeat the outcome it names. Sl. 2 puts the tithi junctions at the last two ghatikas of tithis 5, 10 and 15 and the first two of tithis 1, 6 and 11; this page reads those numbers within each half of the month (20, 25, 30 and 16, 21, 26 in the engine's 1-30 count). Sl. 3 puts the nakshatra junctions between Revati and Ashwini, Ashlesha and Magha, Jyeshtha and Mula. A ghati is 24 minutes (Ch. 5 Sl. 6-8), so two is 48. The engine tests none of this, though Magha, Mula and Revati are on its marriage list.

On the engine's change times, none of the eight passing windows overlaps a 48-minute span, and seven keep one nakshatra and one tithi throughout. The eighth, 3:30 PM on 20 January, passes on Mrigashira at its start, but the Moon enters Ardra, off the list, at 16:18, 48 minutes in. Two near misses, each failing only the nakshatra rule, touch or sit beside a span: 9:15 AM on 18 January overlaps the last 48 minutes of Shukla 10 and the first 48 of Shukla 11 (9:41 to 11:17 AM), and 3:30 PM on 22 January ends one minute before the last 48 minutes of Shukla 15 begin. The Rahu Kaal near miss at 9:15 AM on 8 January opens the minute the Moon passes from Purva Ashadha, off the list, into Uttara Ashadha. A panchang computed for your city can place those changes some minutes differently, which is worth checking for a window this close. The Moon crosses the Jyeshtha-Mula junction at 03:09 IST on 6 January, and Sl. 5 names a wider span at this junction, Abhukta Mula (the last six ghatikas of Jyeshtha and the first eight of Mula); on 6 January that runs from about 00:45 to 06:21 IST. No listed window falls inside it.

Worked example: the same month ranked for one reference chart

With the two personal factors added, the engine ranks the month for a fixed reference chart (1985-01-01 06:00 IST, New Delhi, 28.6139 N, 77.2090 E). These five are that chart's alone.

One reference chart, ranked by the engine.

Three of the five pass every rule; the 14 January windows print the same 89, the 3:30 PM one listed first. The 19 January pair misses the weekday rule yet outranks the sixth, 6:40 AM on 15 January, which passes every rule and prints 80. All three days have a listed Moon house (the 5th on 14 and 15 January, the 7th on 19 January) and the waxing Moon, so neither separates them. On 14 January both the Personal Day (1) and the listed weekday add support; on 19 January only the Personal Day (6) does; on 15 January only the weekday does, as Personal Day 2 adds none, and a supportive Personal Day outweighs the weekday bonus. The other four passing windows rank outside the top eight: the Moon is in this chart's 2nd house on 8 January (not listed) and its 8th on 20 January (penalised).

Limits: what these windows cannot tell you

  • They are not a verdict on any couple. A wedding involves two charts; the Kundli matching calculator compares them.
  • Windows are a sample: 8 of January's 93 change nakshatra or tithi inside their 90 minutes. Times are IST on a fixed 06:00 to 18:00 Rahu Kaal grid, so a sunrise-based panchang can differ; the panchang, Choghadiya and Rahu Kaal calculators cover the whole day or a place.
  • No window, whether it passes every rule or not, is a promise about a marriage. The Muhurat calculator takes your birth date, time, place and one activity and returns the top three windows of the 30 days from the day you use it. See also December 2026 and February 2027.
Why does only the afternoon of 8 January pass every rule?
The Moon is in Purva Ashadha, off the list, until 09:15 IST, which fails 6:40 AM; the 9:15 AM window overlaps Friday's Rahu Kaal (10:30 to 12:00 on the engine's grid).
Why does no window from 21 to 31 January pass every rule?
On 21 and 22 January the Moon is in Ardra, Punarvasu and Pushya, none on the list, and 21 January is also Shukla 14, an avoided tithi. From 17:49 IST on 22 January the Moon is waning.
Why is no Mula window on 6 January listed?
Mula is on the marriage list, but each window misses two rules: Krishna 14 (29 in the engine's count) is an avoided tithi and the Moon is waning. The Abhukta Mula span ends 19 minutes before the first opens.
Does a window that passes every rule guarantee a good marriage?
No. It means five factors are on the favourable side of this app's lists, not a forecast.

What it needs

Date, time and place + What the muhurat is for

That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
