Every stay of Rahu in Aries from 1990 to 2050 as this app computes it (mean node), with Ketu opposite in Libra. A 12-row table of the house each node occupies from your Moon sign and the engine's Gochara verdict.

In short

In this app's computation Rahu was last in sidereal Aries, with Ketu in Libra, from 12 April 2022 to 30 October 2023 (UTC), and returns from 16 November 2040 to 6 June 2042. The engine reads it as testing for Aries, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn Moons and favourable for Gemini, Scorpio, Aquarius and Pisces.

Rahu and Ketu are not bodies but the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's, always opposite each other. When Rahu stands in Aries, Mars's fiery cardinal sign, Ketu stands in Libra, the Venus-ruled sign across the zodiac, so this page reads one axis, not one point. For the nodes themselves see Rahu in Vedic astrology and Ketu in Vedic astrology; for the signs, Aries, Mesha rashi and Libra, Tula rashi.

Each pass of the axis over Aries and Libra lasts a little over a year and a half in the table below. Nothing on this page says what will happen to you; it states the rule this app applies and the positions it applies it to. The Gochar calculator runs the same rule for your own Moon sign on any date.

Dates: when Rahu is in Aries and Ketu in Libra

Rahu here is the mean node, the averaged position of the Moon's ascending node, which moves steadily backwards through the zodiac. Because the mean node never stations or turns direct, it never backs out of Aries and re-enters: each row is one clean stay, and there are no re-entry rows. Ketu is the point exactly opposite, so it occupies Libra for the same interval. The table covers 1990 to 2050.

This app's computation (mean lunar node, Lahiri ayanamsa; transit-ingresses.mjs rahu aries and engine-facts.mjs rahu-transit-in-aries, run 2026-10-14), to the minute in UTC. Ketu enters and leaves Libra at the same moments, exactly opposite. Other software, or one that uses the true node, may differ by hours to a day or two near an ingress.

Read the first row with the time zone in mind: Rahu enters Aries at 22:31 UTC on 5 September 2003, which is already 6 September in India. The most recent pass, 12 April 2022 to 30 October 2023, followed Rahu's stay in Taurus and handed over to Pisces; the next one does not begin until November 2040. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, but for a backward-moving node it is where a pass round the circle ends, not where it starts: Rahu reaches Aries from Taurus and goes on to Pisces.

Counted from your Moon: the house Rahu and Ketu fall in

Gochara (the term) counts from the natal Moon sign, not the Lagna. Count your Moon sign as 1 and step forward to Aries: that is Rahu's house for you. Ketu is always six signs further on. The engine treats both nodes as natural malefics and gives them the same verdicts: the 1st, 8th and 12th are "testing", so is the 4th; the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 11th are "favourable"; the 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th, where its source is silent, are "neutral". It also has a short "intensified" list that pairs Rahu with the 9th and Ketu with the 2nd.

Houses, verdicts and flags from computeGochara() in server/src/services/kundaliEngine.js, run 2026-10-14 with Rahu in Aries and Ketu in Libra; the Rahu column matches engine-facts.mjs rahu-transit-in-aries fromEachMoonSign.

Three rows stand out. A Libra Moon has Ketu on its own Moon sign (1st, testing) with Rahu in the 7th (neutral), the mirror of the Aries Moon, which has Rahu over the Moon sign and Ketu in the 7th. A Leo Moon gets Rahu in the 9th, the house the engine marks "intensified" for Rahu, although its verdict there is only neutral. A Virgo Moon has Rahu in the 8th (testing) while Ketu sits in the 2nd, which is favourable and also flagged as Ketu's intensified house - a row where one node is read as testing and the other as favourable at the same time.

What the classical texts say about the nodes in transit

Advanced Predictive Astrology Vol. II has a short section, "Transit effects of Rahu and Ketu" (pp. 317-318). It says Rahu "produces good results" in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th from the Moon, Sun or Ascendant, and calls it "very bad" over the Moon sign or in the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 12th. Applied to Rahu in Aries, the book's good list is the Gemini, Cancer, Scorpio and Aquarius Moons and its bad list is the Aries, Taurus, Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius, Capricorn and Pisces Moons. The engine agrees on most rows but not all: for a Pisces Moon Aries is the 2nd, which the engine calls favourable and the book calls bad, and for a Cancer Moon it is the 10th, which the book calls good and the engine leaves neutral. The two sources follow different lists, and this page shows the engine's.

The same section of that book adds two rules that do not depend on the sign at all and so are not computed here: the nodes are said to give poor results while passing over the houses they aspect in the birth chart and over the signs they occupied at birth, and yet the 1.5-year return of transit Rahu to its natal place is called "quite rewarding" when that natal Rahu is strongly placed. The two statements sit side by side in the text. Anyone born with Rahu in Aries had that return during the stays in the table; whether it reads as rewarding depends on the rest of the chart, which this page cannot see.

The sign itself: Aries with Libra opposite

Aries is ruled by Mars and Libra by Venus, so the axis joins the two signs whose lords the classical scheme treats as rivals in temperament. BPHS Ch. 47 Sl. 34-39 1/2 gives the nodes an exaltation, a moolatrikona and own signs, and none of them is Aries or Libra; on that text neither node has any special standing on this axis. This app goes further and gives Rahu and Ketu no exaltation or debilitation anywhere, because, as its code notes, the sources disagree on the nodes' signs. The Bhrigu Sutras say the same thing in their own words: "quite a controversy" among the ancients.

In practice the engine therefore reads Rahu in Aries purely by house from the Moon. For a birth chart with Rahu in this sign the natal reading is on Rahu in Aries, and for the other end of the axis, Ketu in Libra. Those are natal placements; a transit borrows only the house count.

Worked example: a Libra Moon across three passes of the axis

Take a natal Moon in Libra. Aries is the 7th sign from it and Libra itself the 1st. The dates come from the Aries table above and the neighbouring-sign runs of the same tool:

  1. From 23 September 2020 to 12 April 2022 Rahu is in Taurus, the 8th from this Moon (testing), and Ketu in Scorpio, the 2nd (favourable, and Ketu's intensified house).
  2. From 12 April 2022 to 30 October 2023 Rahu is in Aries, the 7th (neutral), and Ketu is on the Moon sign itself, Libra, the 1st (testing).
  3. From 30 October 2023 to 18 May 2025 Rahu is in Pisces, the 6th (favourable), and Ketu in Virgo, the 12th (testing).

Across four and a half years the two nodes never agree for this Moon: in every step one is testing and the other is favourable or neutral. That is normal for an axis and is the reason the Gochar calculator lists Rahu and Ketu as separate rows instead of merging them. Advanced Predictive Astrology would add that the middle step, Rahu in the 7th, is on its "very bad" list, where the engine says neutral. For the long-period context, the transit is read alongside the running dasha - see the Rahu Mahadasha.

Because the node runs backwards, the pass before this one is Rahu transit in Taurus and the one after is Rahu transit in Pisces. The slower transits through the same sign are on Saturn transit in Aries and Jupiter transit in Aries. A birth-chart pattern built on the same axis is explained in Kaal Sarp dosha explained.

When was Rahu last in Aries?
In this app's computation, from 12 April 2022 to 30 October 2023 (UTC), with Ketu in Libra for the same span. The next stay is 16 November 2040 to 6 June 2042.
Does Rahu go retrograde out of Aries and come back?
Not in this app. It uses the mean node, which moves backwards at a steady rate and never stations, so each stay is one interval. Software using the true node can show small back-and-forth movement near a boundary.
Why does the page talk about Ketu when the title says Rahu?
Ketu is the point opposite Rahu, so every Rahu-in-Aries period is also a Ketu-in-Libra period. This site has one page per axis instead of separate Ketu transit pages.
Is Rahu in Aries good for an Aries Moon?
The engine calls it testing: Rahu is on the Moon sign itself, the 1st, and Ketu is in the 7th (neutral). Advanced Predictive Astrology also lists the Moon sign as a "very bad" place for transiting Rahu. It is a rule, not a forecast; check your own chart in the Gochar calculator.
Why might another site give a different date?
Other software may use the true node, a different ayanamsa or local time. This app uses the mean node, the Lahiri ayanamsa and UTC, which can differ by hours to a day or two near an ingress.
