In plain words
- For a Pisces Moon, Saturn's 7½-year phase (Sade Sati) is Saturn's time in Aquarius, Pisces and Aries. It tends to ask for patience and steady habits.
- The phase comes in three parts of about two and a half years. In the first, Saturn is in Aquarius, your 12th house (expenses, rest, letting go). In the middle, Saturn is in Pisces, over your Moon sign (your mind and emotions). In the last, Saturn is in Aries, your 2nd house (money, family, speech). In 2027 this phase is already under way.
- The app reads the first two parts as testing and the last as steadier: slow, disciplined progress. The phase tends to bring a wish to save money, read agreements twice, keep targets in writing and avoid rash moves in work and money. Saturn can also pause for a few months and return, because it moves backwards for part of each year.
- In daily life, you may feel more tired or serious than usual. You may want fewer, more important commitments.
- Under strain you may feel low or lose interest in things. Regular sleep, regular meals and time with people you trust help, and a doctor is the right person for any health worry.
- Why: Saturn (discipline, patience, responsibility) moves through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign and the sign after it. The Moon stands for mind, mood and emotions, so Saturn near it tends to slow and sober your inner life.
- Keep a money reserve for the whole phase and write your work or study targets down.
- This phase is a later tradition and is not named in the oldest texts. It is a period asking for steadiness, not a prediction of bad events or an omen.
For a Moon in Pisces (Meena), Sade Sati is Saturn's passage through Aquarius, Pisces and Aries, the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the Moon sign. The rule, with the dates for all twelve Moon signs, is on the Sade Sati page; the sign is described in Pisces, Meena rashi.
Nothing here says what will happen to anyone. Everyone born with the Moon in sidereal Pisces shares these dates, whatever their ascendant, dasha or circumstances. The Sade Sati calculator checks a birth date.
Dates: every stay of Saturn in Aquarius, Pisces and Aries
The table lists each stay of Saturn in the three signs during the cycle that begins in 2022. Where Saturn turns retrograde (vakri) near a sign boundary it leaves a sign and returns, and each crossing is its own row.
| Saturn in | From (UTC) | To (UTC) | Days | Phase for a Pisces Moon |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aquarius | 27 Apr 2022 | 13 Jul 2022 | 77 | Rising (12th) |
| Capricorn (turned back) | 13 Jul 2022 | 16 Jan 2023 | 187 | Not active |
| Aquarius | 16 Jan 2023 | 29 Mar 2025 | 802 | Rising (12th) |
| Pisces | 29 Mar 2025 | 2 Jun 2027 | 795 | Peak (1st) |
| Aries | 2 Jun 2027 | 21 Oct 2027 | 141 | Setting (2nd) |
| Pisces (re-entered retrograde) | 21 Oct 2027 | 22 Feb 2028 | 125 | Peak again (1st) |
| Aries | 22 Feb 2028 | 6 Aug 2029 | 531 | Setting (2nd) |
| Taurus (turned back) | 6 Aug 2029 | 6 Oct 2029 | 61 | Not active |
| Aries (re-entered retrograde) | 6 Oct 2029 | 16 Apr 2030 | 192 | Setting again (2nd) |
Three details matter more than the round figure of seven and a half years.
- The cycle starts in two steps. Saturn touches Aquarius on 27 April 2022, falls back into Capricorn on 13 July 2022 for 187 days, and re-enters on 16 January 2023.
- The peak is not one block. Saturn leaves Pisces on 2 June 2027, spends 141 days in Aries, returns on 21 October 2027 and leaves for good on 22 February 2028.
- The cycle ends in two steps too: Saturn enters Taurus on 6 August 2029, is back in Aries on 6 October 2029 and leaves for good on 16 April 2030.
Dates are UTC. Four changes fall after 18:30 UTC, and so on the following calendar day in India: 13 July 2022 at 19:27, 16 January 2023 at 21:14, 6 August 2029 at 23:54 and 6 October 2029 at 19:39. Two more fall within 20 minutes of midnight in India: 27 April 2022 at 18:11 and 22 February 2028 at 18:19 UTC. Other software can differ by hours to a day or two near an ingress; why Sade Sati dates differ between sources explains why.
All three cycles between 1990 and 2060
A Pisces Moon has three Sade Sati cycles in this app's 1990-2060 scan, and none is cut off by either end.
| Cycle (first entry to final exit, UTC) | Span | Days inside | Pauses |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 Mar 1993 to 7 Jun 2000 | 7.26 years | 2,619 of 2,651 | One, of 32 days |
| 27 Apr 2022 to 16 Apr 2030 | 7.97 years | 2,663 of 2,911 | Two, of 187 and 61 days |
| 25 Feb 2052 to 29 May 2059 | 7.25 years | 2,650 of 2,650 | None |
No cycle is exactly seven and a half years. The 2022 cycle has the longest span because its two pauses add 248 days; the days actually spent in the three signs, 2,663, are close to the other two (2,619 and 2,650). The 1993 cycle had a short pause at the start (32 days) and a shuffle in the middle as well: Saturn reached Pisces on 4 June 1995, fell back into Aquarius on 7 August 1995 and returned on 17 February 1996. The 2052 cycle shuffles the same way between 16 May 2054 and 6 February 2055.
The three phases for a Pisces Moon
The engine names the phases after the three dhaiyas (two-and-a-half-year portions) and shows one sentence beside whichever is active: "A classical ~7.5-year period of intensified pressure and restructuring - traditionally read as a time to consolidate rather than expand, not as an omen" (the engine's wording; the period is not named in BPHS or Saravali, as shown below). The Gochar calculator adds a verdict for Saturn in each sign.
- Rising, Saturn in Aquarius (12th): 879 days in the 2022-2030 cycle. Gochara verdict: testing. Aquarius is Saturn's own sign (BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 21). See Saturn transit in Aquarius.
- Peak, Saturn in Pisces (1st): 920 days across two stays in that cycle. Gochara verdict: testing, and the engine raises its "intensified" flag, because its table pairs Saturn with the 1st from the Moon; Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, p. 311) gives the same pairing from a Tamil palm-leaf reading. See Saturn transit in Pisces.
- Setting, Saturn in Aries (2nd): 864 days across three stays in that cycle. Gochara verdict: favourable, "steady, disciplined progress". The two rule sets part here, and the app shows both. BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 places Saturn's debilitation in Aries. See Saturn transit in Aries.
Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 312) also reports a North Indian school that names the portion of each Moon sign's Sade Sati said to weigh most; for Pisces it is the last five years. The engine ignores the list. House by house, the passage is on Saturn transit for Pisces Moon sign.
What the texts say, and what they do not
A search of BPHS (both copies in the library), Saravali and the Bhrigu Sutras for "sade", "sadhe", "seven and a half" and "dhaiya" finds no passage that names Sade Sati. What they hold is narrower, and does not count from the Moon in the Sade Sati way.
- BPHS Ch. 66 Sl. 70-72 says a graha passing in transit through the Bhavas dot-marked in its own Ashtakavarga table gives unfavourable results, and through the others favourable ones. Ch. 70 Sl. 43-44 applies that to Saturn: favourable through signs with more Rekhas in its own table, evil through signs with more dots.
- Saravali Ch. 53 Sl. 1 and 9-10 read transits the same way (Saravali's "benefic dots" are BPHS's Rekhas), and add that Saturn, like the Moon, gives its transit results while in the end portion of a sign. The text does not say how large that portion is; Saturn's return to Pisces from 21 October 2027 to 22 February 2028 keeps it in the last degrees of the sign, since it turns direct at Pisces 26.85 on 24 December 2027.
- BPHS Ch. 57 Sl. 24-27 says that if Sani "is favourable in transit" the Venus sub-period in Saturn's Mahadasha gives Raj Yog effects: transit modifies a running dasha.
The corpus book that does name the period is the modern Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, Ch. 7, "Research on Transits", pp. 311-313). It defines Sade Sati as Saturn in the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon "once in 30 yrs", sets the rule aside for a yogakaraka Saturn well placed with benefic association or aspect, and says it "will bring unpleasant situations and circumstances". It gives a 45-degree variant boundary, which this app does not use, and says that once Saturn enters the 3rd sign the person turns "a new leaf". For a Pisces Moon that sign is Taurus, which Saturn holds from 16 April 2030 to 30 May 2032 in this app's computation.
The engine's own source, Kannan's Fundamentals of Hindu Astrology (Ch. XXXI, pp. 117-118), is not in the corpus; the engine quotes it only for "immense troubles, worries, quarrels and impediments".
What changes the reading for one chart
A phase is a calendar position computed from the Moon sign alone. The sources name more.
- Saturn's own condition. Advanced Predictive Astrology sets the rule aside for a yogakaraka Saturn and says it "does not make much difference" when the Moon is with Saturn at birth (p. 312). Both depend on the birth chart; see Saturn in Vedic astrology.
- Saturn's Ashtakavarga table (BPHS Ch. 70 Sl. 43-44). The counts for Aquarius, Pisces and Aries are chart-specific. This BPHS translation calls the favourable marks Rekhas and the unfavourable ones dots; the Ashtakavarga calculator counts the favourable ones and calls them bindus.
- The dignity of the sign. Saravali Ch. 53 Sl. 9-10 says benefic results predominate in a sign of exaltation, own or friendly, and malefic results in debilitation or an enemy's sign. Saturn spends the rising phase in its own sign and the setting phase in its debilitation sign. Pisces, Jupiter's sign (BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 22-24), is neither Saturn's own sign nor its exaltation or debilitation. The Sade Sati check does not apply this.
- The running dasha. Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 312) treats a Saturn Mahadasha together with Sade Sati as the heavier combination. The Vimshottari Dasha calculator and the Timing feature show the periods.
What to take care of
BPHS does not name Sade Sati, but the later transit writing reads it as a testing period and names the areas. Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, pp. 311-312) lists depression and lack of interest; trouble concentrating on studies; delays, a disliked transfer and quarrels at work in a career just begun; financial loss; ill health; and tension and travel. Phaladeepika Ch. 26 Sl. 9, as quoted there (p. 312), adds fatigue, loss of wealth and anger for Saturn's passage through the Janma Rasi. The book's list goes on to graver events and to named people's lives; this page leaves those out, as this app does not forecast such events.
- Money: keep savings for the period, avoid large unsecured loans, and read contracts twice before signing.
- Work and study: write down agreed targets, raise a misunderstanding with a senior early and calmly, think a transfer or job change through before accepting it, and keep a steady study routine.
- Health and travel: get the check-up you have been postponing, drive with care on long trips and keep documents and valuables safe when travelling. This is not a diagnosis - see a doctor for any symptom.
- Mind: the book names depression. If you feel low for more than two weeks, talk to someone you trust or call Tele-MANAS 14416 (free, 24x7, India).
Saturn's other two named positions from a Pisces Moon have their own pages: Ardha Ashtama Shani and Ashtama Shani. The same movements through 2027, with Jupiter and Rahu, are in 2027 for Pisces Moon sign; the term is in the glossary as Sade Sati.
- When does Sade Sati end for a Pisces Moon?
- In this app's computation the final exit is 16 April 2030. It appears to end on 6 August 2029, when Saturn enters Taurus, but Saturn is back in Aries from 6 October 2029. Dates are UTC and may differ elsewhere by hours to a day or two.
- Is Saturn's return to Pisces from 21 October 2027 part of Sade Sati?
- Yes. Saturn re-enters Pisces, the Moon sign itself, on 21 October 2027 in this app's computation and stays until 22 February 2028, so the peak phase resumes for those four months. It is the same cycle, not a new one.
- When were the previous and the following Sade Sati for a Pisces Moon?
- In this app's 1990-2060 scan: 6 March 1993 to 7 June 2000, and 25 February 2052 to 29 May 2059, each about seven and a quarter years from first entry to final exit, against 7.97 years for the 2022-2030 cycle.
- Why did Sade Sati for a Pisces Moon seem to pause in 2022?
- Saturn entered Aquarius on 27 April 2022 and fell back into Capricorn from 13 July 2022 to 16 January 2023, 187 days in which a Pisces Moon was outside Sade Sati by the engine's rule.
