In short

Two Sagittarius Moons score between 28 and 34 out of 36 in this app, median 29.5, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings. The sign kootas are full at 15, Gana never falls below 3 because the sign holds no Deva star, and the only large loss is Nadi when both Moons share a star.

Two Sagittarius Moons have one of the highest floors in Guna Milan. Sharing the sign fills all four sign kootas, as it does for any same-sign pair. What lifts this particular pair is the make-up of its stars: Sagittarius contains no Deva nakshatra, so the Deva-Rakshasa clash that zeroes Gana for many pairs cannot happen here. Every pairing collects at least 3 on Gana, and most of the variation comes down to whether the two Moons share a star.

The sign is described at Sagittarius, Dhanu rashi. The nakshatra matching guide explains every koota and links all 78 Moon-sign pairs; the Kundli matching calculator scores two actual charts.

Dhanu in BPHS

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 17-18.5 describes Dhanu as rising with its head and "lorded by Guru". It is Sattvic, tawny, strong at night and fiery; "A royal Rasi", it is biped in its first half and quadruped in its second, of even build, and "splendourous". Sl. 5-5.5 places it with Mesh and Simh among the bilious signs. The engine takes only three things from this: Jupiter as lord, and the sign's Varna and Vashya classifications.

A Sagittarius Moon is in Mula (four padas), Purva Ashadha (four) or the first pada of Uttara Ashadha, whose other three padas lie in Capricorn. Two Sagittarius Moons give 81 combinations, with a sign distance of 1 each way.

The kootas this sign pair fixes: 15 of 15

KootaOut ofSagittarius with SagittariusWhy
Varna11Same class value; order cannot matter
Vashya22Same group
Graha Maitri55Jupiter rules both
Bhakoot771/1 is not a failing distance
Fixed for all 81 pairings (engine-facts.mjs sagittarius-and-sagittarius-moon-sign-compatibility, run 2026-10-14).

With one sign on both sides the result is mechanical. Graha Maitri is 5 because the engine gives 5 whenever the two lords are the same graha. Bhakoot is 7 because the engine fails only 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8, a rule taken from two agreeing web references since no book in this library contains one. Varna compares the first-entered value with the second, which can depend on order for mixed pairs; with identical values it is 1 either way, and the scratch run confirmed identical totals in both orders. Varna is used only as the koota's name.

The kootas the nakshatras decide

The three Sagittarius stars sit like this in the engine's tables:

  • Mula (four padas): Aadi Nadi, Rakshasa Gana, Dog Yoni.
  • Purva Ashadha (four padas): Madhya Nadi, Manushya Gana, Monkey Yoni.
  • Uttara Ashadha (one pada): Antya Nadi, Manushya Gana, Mongoose Yoni.

Each star has its own Nadi, so Nadi is lost only when both Moons share a star: 33 pairings at 0, 48 at 8. Gana is 6 when both stars are of the same type (41 pairings) and 3 when Mula meets either Ashadha (40); with no Deva star, 0 never occurs. Yoni is 4 for a shared animal (33 pairings) and 2 otherwise (48) - the Dog, Monkey and Mongoose include no enemy pair. Tara is 3 in 73 pairings and 1.5 in 8.

The four possible totals

Because the sign kootas are fixed, every pairing of two Sagittarius Moons ends in one of four totals, which can be worked out from the engine's tables:

  • Same star (Mula-Mula, Purva Ashadha-Purva Ashadha, or the Uttara Ashadha pada twice): Tara 3, Yoni 4, Gana 6, Nadi 0 - 28. These are 33 pairings.
  • Mula with Uttara Ashadha: Tara 1.5, Yoni 2, Gana 3, Nadi 8 - 29.5. These are 8 pairings.
  • Mula with Purva Ashadha: Tara 3, Yoni 2, Gana 3, Nadi 8 - 31. These are 32 pairings.
  • Purva Ashadha with Uttara Ashadha: Tara 3, Yoni 2, Gana 6, Nadi 8 - 34. These are 8 pairings.

Those counts reproduce the engine's figures exactly: a minimum of 28, a maximum of 34, and a median - the 41st value in order - of 29.5, since the first 33 sorted totals are 28 and the next 8 are 29.5.

Tara explains the one half-point. The engine counts from one star to the other inclusively, both ways, and treats a remainder of 3, 5 or 7 after dividing by 9 as unfavourable. Mula to Uttara Ashadha is a count of 3, so one direction fails and Tara is 1.5. Mula to Purva Ashadha (2) and Purva to Uttara Ashadha (2) pass in both directions.

Mula is the star that shapes this distribution. It is the only Rakshasa star in the sign and the only Aadi one, so a Mula Moon always differs from an Ashadha Moon on both Gana and Nadi. Those two differences pull in opposite directions - Gana drops from 6 to 3, Nadi rises from 0 to 8, and Yoni slips from 4 to 2 because the animals differ - so the net effect is a gain of three points over a shared star. That is why the largest single group of mixed pairings, Mula with Purva Ashadha, lands at 31.

The arrangement resembles the one on the Scorpio and Scorpio page, where three stars also trade Gana against Nadi so that no pairing loses both. The difference is in the details. Scorpio has a Deva star, so some of its mixed pairings lose Gana entirely; Sagittarius does not, so its mixed pairings always keep at least 3, and the totals sit a little higher as a result.

The range of totals

Across all 81 pairings two Sagittarius Moons score 28 to 34 out of 36, median 29.5. The spread of six points is small, and the worst case is already a high number by the standards of the system. Still, the stars matter: a couple sharing a star sits at 28, while a Purva Ashadha Moon with the rare Uttara Ashadha pada sits at 34. The nakshatra calculator gives the exact star from a birth time, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains how sign and star relate.

Worked example: Sagittarius 1 degree with Sagittarius 1 degree

Both Moons at 1 degree of Sagittarius are in Mula. ashtakoot() returns:

A shared star always produces this shape: everything full except Nadi. The engine reports the zero as "Same Nadi - traditionally flagged; worth discussing openly", and that is the extent of its comment. Some practitioners make exceptions for two Moons in one star or sign; neither the engine nor the books in this library contain such an exception, so none is applied here.

Move one Moon from Mula into Purva Ashadha, a few degrees later, and Nadi becomes 8 while Gana and Yoni each give up some ground; the total rises to 31. Nadi dosha explains the same-Nadi rule in more depth.

What the classical texts say

BPHS describes Dhanu and supplies the planetary relationships the engine uses elsewhere; it does not contain Ashtakoot. Neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology - a search for bhakoot, koota, kuta, nadi, gana and yoni finds no matching rule. Nothing in the corpus comments on two Sagittarius Moons.

What a score does not tell you

A floor of 28 is a property of how the scheme treats two Sagittarius Moons, not a forecast for any couple. This app does not give verdicts on marriage. Mars placement is a separate traditional check, explained in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not. For a lighter comparison that does not use Ashtakoot, try the love compatibility calculator.

What is the Guna Milan score for two Sagittarius Moons?
From 28 to 34 out of 36, median 29.5, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
Why is Gana never 0 for two Sagittarius Moons?
A Gana of 0 needs one Deva star and one Rakshasa star. Sagittarius holds Mula (Rakshasa) and the two Ashadhas (Manushya) but no Deva star.
What is the highest-scoring pairing?
Purva Ashadha with Uttara Ashadha, at 34: both Manushya, different Nadi, Tara favourable both ways. It is rare because only one pada of Uttara Ashadha falls in Sagittarius.
Why is the worked example at the bottom of the range?
Both Moons at 1 degree are in Mula, the same star, and two Moons in one star always share a Nadi. That costs 8 points; every other koota is full, giving 28.
Does the order of entry matter?
No. Both Moons carry the same Varna value, so the order-sensitive koota scores 1 either way.
How do we find our actual score?
Enter both birth details in the match tool. For this pair the stars decide between 28, 29.5, 31 and 34.
