In short
Two Scorpio Moons score between 28 and 32.5 out of 36 in this app across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings, with a median of 28 - no pairing falls below it. The four sign kootas are full at 15, and Scorpio's three stars trade Gana against Nadi so evenly that every combination lands at 28, 30 or 32.5.
Two Scorpio Moons make an unusual case in Guna Milan. The sign half of the score is full, as it is for any same-sign pair. What is unusual is the nakshatra half: Scorpio's three stars are arranged so that whenever one koota is lost, another is gained. The result is a range that never drops below 28 out of 36 and has only three possible values. This page shows how that happens in the engine.
The sign is described at Scorpio, Vrishchika rashi. The nakshatra matching guide covers all eight kootas and links every Moon-sign pair; the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.
Vrischik in BPHS
BPHS Ch. 4 describes Vrischik in a short unnumbered passage after Sl. 16.5. It has "a slender physique", is a centipede sign that "resides in holes", has the North as its direction, is strong in daytime, reddish-brown, resorts to water and land, has a hairy physique and is "very sharp (or passionate)". Mangal (Mars) is its ruler. Sl. 5-5.5 places it among the phlegmatic signs. The engine draws on two things only: Mars as the lord, and the sign's Varna and Vashya classifications.
A Scorpio Moon falls in one of nine padas: the last pada of Vishakha, the four of Anuradha, or the four of Jyeshtha. Two Scorpio Moons give 81 combinations, with a sign distance of 1 in each direction.
The kootas this sign pair fixes: a full 15
| Koota | Out of | Scorpio with Scorpio | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Same class value, order cannot matter |
| Vashya | 2 | 2 | Same group |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 5 | Mars rules both Moon signs |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | 1/1 is not a failing distance |
All four follow from sharing a sign. The engine scores Graha Maitri 5 whenever the two lords are the same graha. Bhakoot is zeroed only at 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 - a rule taken from two agreeing web references, since no book in this library contains one - so 1/1 keeps 7. Varna compares the first person's class value with the second's; with identical values it is 1 in either order, and the scratch run gave the same totals both ways. Varna is only the koota's name.
The kootas the nakshatras decide
The key is how Scorpio's three stars sit in the engine's tables:
- Vishakha (one pada): Antya Nadi, Rakshasa Gana, Tiger Yoni.
- Anuradha (four padas): Madhya Nadi, Deva Gana, Deer Yoni.
- Jyeshtha (four padas): Aadi Nadi, Rakshasa Gana, Deer Yoni.
Each star has its own Nadi, so Nadi is 0 only when both Moons are in the same star (33 pairings) and 8 otherwise (48). Gana has no Manushya star to soften it: two Rakshasa stars or two Deva score 6 (41 pairings), Anuradha against either Rakshasa star scores 0 (40). Yoni is 4 whenever both Moons share an animal - Deer with Deer covers Anuradha and Jyeshtha in any mix - which happens in 65 pairings; Vishakha's Tiger against a Deer gives 2. Tara is 3 in 73 pairings and 1.5 in 8.
Why the floor is 28
With the sign kootas fixed at 15, the stars produce only three outcomes for two Scorpio Moons, which can be worked out from the engine's tables:
- Same star (any of the three): Tara 3, Yoni 4, Gana 6, Nadi 0 - total 28.
- Anuradha with Vishakha: Tara 3, Yoni 2, Gana 0, Nadi 8 - total 28.
- Anuradha with Jyeshtha: Tara 3, Yoni 4, Gana 0, Nadi 8 - total 30.
- Vishakha with Jyeshtha: Tara 1.5, Yoni 2, Gana 6, Nadi 8 - total 32.5.
The structure is a seesaw. Sharing a star wins Gana and Yoni but loses Nadi. Different stars win Nadi, but if one of them is Anuradha, the only Deva star, Gana is lost instead. No combination loses both Nadi and Gana, so no pairing falls below 28. Because the same-star and Anuradha pairings make up more than half of the 81, the median sits exactly on that floor.
The top value, 32.5, needs the rarest star: Vishakha has only one pada in Scorpio, so a Vishakha-Jyeshtha pairing is uncommon. Its Tara is 1.5 because the inclusive count from Vishakha to Jyeshtha is 3, a remainder the engine treats as unfavourable, while the count back, 26, leaves 8 and passes.
Counting the padas makes the distribution concrete. Same-star pairings number 33 (one Vishakha pada squared, plus sixteen each for Anuradha and Jyeshtha). Anuradha with Vishakha, in either position, adds 8 more at 28 - so 41 of the 81 pairings land exactly on the floor. Anuradha with Jyeshtha accounts for 32 pairings at 30, and Vishakha with Jyeshtha for the remaining 8 at 32.5. These counts agree with the per-koota tallies from the engine run: 33 Nadi zeroes, 40 Gana zeroes, 8 Tara values of 1.5.
Anuradha is therefore the star that decides most outcomes. As the sole Deva star in the sign it costs Gana against either neighbour, and as the sole Madhya star it never costs Nadi except against itself. An Anuradha Moon paired with a Scorpio Moon of any other star lands on 28 or 30; only the two Rakshasa stars together, Vishakha and Jyeshtha, reach the top of the range.
The range of totals
Across the 81 pairings, two Scorpio Moons score from 28 to 32.5 out of 36, median 28. It is the narrowest range on these Scorpio pages and the highest floor. That does not make the stars irrelevant - they still move the total by four and a half points - but it does mean the sign pair alone says more here than usual. The nakshatra calculator gives your exact star, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains the relationship between the two layers.
Worked example: Scorpio 1 degree with Scorpio 1 degree
Both Moons at 1 degree of Scorpio are in Vishakha's single Scorpio pada. ashtakoot() returns:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: same value |
| Vashya | 2 | 2 | Sign: same group |
| Tara | 3 | 3 | Nakshatra: same star, favourable both ways |
| Yoni | 4 | 4 | Nakshatra: Tiger and Tiger |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 5 | Sign: Mars and Mars |
| Gana | 6 | 6 | Nakshatra: Rakshasa and Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | Sign: 1/1 |
| Nadi | 0 | 8 | Nakshatra: same Nadi (Antya) |
| Total | 28 | 36 |
Seven kootas at their maximum and Nadi at zero: the signature of any two Moons in one star. The engine labels the Nadi result "traditionally flagged; worth discussing openly". Some practitioners apply exceptions when two people share a star or a sign; neither the books in this library nor the engine contain such an exception, so this page applies none.
Move one Moon a few degrees on, into Anuradha, and Nadi becomes 8 while Gana falls to 0 and Yoni to 2 - the total stays at 28. Move it further, into Jyeshtha, and Gana returns: 32.5. The Nadi dosha page discusses the zero in context.
What the classical texts say
BPHS describes Vrischik and gives the planetary relationships the engine uses; it does not contain Ashtakoot. Nor do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology - a search for bhakoot, koota, kuta, nadi, gana and yoni finds no matching rule. Nothing in the corpus addresses two Scorpio Moons. The engine's rules are its own implementation of the system as commonly practised, with web sources named in the code.
What a score does not tell you
A high floor is a property of the scoring scheme, not a promise about two people. This app does not give a verdict on marriage. Because Mars rules Scorpio, readers often connect this pair with Mangal dosha, but that is a separate check on where Mars sits in each chart, not on the Moon sign; Mangal dosha: what it is and is not explains it. The love compatibility calculator gives a non-Ashtakoot comparison.

- What is the Guna Milan score for two Scorpio Moons?
- From 28 to 32.5 out of 36, median 28, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app. No pairing scores below 28.
- Why can two Scorpio Moons never score below 28?
- The sign kootas are full at 15, and Scorpio's stars are arranged so that a pairing loses either Nadi or Gana, never both. Each outcome works out to 28, 30 or 32.5.
- Which star pairing scores highest?
- Vishakha with Jyeshtha, at 32.5: both Rakshasa, different Nadi. It is uncommon because Vishakha has only one pada in Scorpio.
- Does Mars ruling both signs mean Mangal dosha?
- No. Mangal dosha is a separate check on where Mars sits in each chart. The Moon sign lord only affects Graha Maitri, which is 5 here.
- How do we find our actual score?
- Enter both birth details in the match tool. For two Scorpio Moons the stars decide between 28, 30 and 32.5.
