In short

This app scores a Libra Moon with a Scorpio Moon from 8.5 to 24.5 out of 36, median 18, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings with Libra entered first, one point lower with Scorpio first. As neighbouring signs they lose Bhakoot at the 2/12 distance; Venus and Mars are neutral to each other, giving Graha Maitri 3.

Libra and Scorpio are adjacent signs ruled by Venus and Mars, a pairing that popular astrology loves to dramatise. Ashtakoot matching treats it more drily. The two lords are simply neutral to one another in the classical table, the adjacency costs the seven Bhakoot points, and the result is a modest fixed contribution from the signs. Everything else depends on the stars, and here the stars divide sharply.

The signs: Libra, Tula rashi and Scorpio, Vrishchika rashi. The nakshatra matching guide explains all eight kootas, and the Kundli matching calculator scores real charts.

Tula and Vrischik in BPHS

BPHS Ch. 4 describes Tula (Sl. 15-16.5) as rising with its head, strong in daytime, of Rajo-Gun and medium build, a biped with Shukr as its lord. Vrischik follows immediately: "a slender physique", a centipede sign that "resides in holes", strong in daytime, reddish-brown, "very sharp (or passionate)", ruled by Mangal. Both are day-strong; beyond that the text gives them different bodies, habitats and lords. Sl. 5-5.5 counts Tula as mixed and Vrischik as phlegmatic.

The two signs share a star. Vishakha has three padas in Libra and its fourth in Scorpio, so a Libra Moon in late Libra and a Scorpio Moon in early Scorpio can both be in Vishakha. Otherwise a Libra Moon is in Chitra (two padas) or Swati (four), and a Scorpio Moon in Anuradha or Jyeshtha (four each).

Graha Maitri (the koota): in the engine's lists from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, Venus's friends are Mercury and Saturn and its enemies the Sun and Moon; Mars's friends are the Sun, Moon and Jupiter and its enemy Mercury. Neither names the other, so each is neutral. Neutral-neutral scores 3 of 5 - a value raised from 1 in the engine's October 2026 revision, where four web references agreed.

Bhakoot (the koota) counts Scorpio as the 2nd from Libra and Libra as the 12th from Scorpio. The engine scores 2/12 as 0, alongside 5/9 and 6/8, on the basis of two published references; the books in this library contain no such rule. A 2/12 zero is one of the cases called Bhakoot dosha.

Varna (the koota) gives its point only when the first-entered value is not lower than the second. That holds with Libra first and fails with Scorpio first, so the order shifts each total by one; the engine lists this as unresolved. Varna is the koota's technical name and nothing more here.

The kootas the nakshatras decide

The six stars in play have no Manushya member: Chitra, Vishakha and Jyeshtha are Rakshasa, Swati and Anuradha Deva. Gana therefore never gives 3. It is 6 when the two stars are of the same kind (41 pairings) and 0 when one is Deva and the other Rakshasa (40). That even split is the largest single source of variation for this pair.

Nadi is kinder: 8 in 66 pairings. It drops to 0 in two situations - a Chitra Moon with an Anuradha Moon (both Madhya), and any Swati or Vishakha Moon from Libra facing the Scorpio pada of Vishakha (all Antya). Yoni is 2 almost everywhere; it reaches 4 only when a Libra Moon in Chitra or Vishakha (the Tiger) meets the Scorpio Vishakha pada (also the Tiger), 5 pairings. Tara gives 1.5 in 62 pairings and 3 in 19.

The range of totals

With Libra first the engine's totals run from 8.5 to 24.5 out of 36, median 18. With Scorpio first: 7.5 to 23.5, median 17. The sign kootas fix only 5 (or 4) of their 15 points, so the nakshatras have to do most of the work.

Jyeshtha, the last Scorpio star, is the steadiest partner for a Libra Moon. It is Aadi in the engine's Nadi table, and none of Libra's stars is, so a Jyeshtha Moon always collects the full 8 on Nadi. Its Gana is Rakshasa, which pairs at 6 with a Libra Moon in Chitra or Vishakha and at 0 with one in Swati; its Yoni animal, the Deer, has no enemy among Libra's Tiger and Buffalo, so Yoni stays at 2. Anuradha is the more variable partner: Deva in Gana and Madhya in Nadi, it gains or loses both depending on the Libra star opposite.

The shared star, Vishakha, is a special case. Two Moons in Vishakha - one in its Libra padas, one in its Scorpio pada - have the same Nadi, Gana and Yoni, so they collect Gana 6 and Yoni 4 but lose Nadi entirely. Sharing a birth star always works this way in the engine, whichever signs the two Moons are in.

The floor is a Chitra Moon with an Anuradha Moon. They share the Madhya Nadi (0), clash on Gana as Rakshasa and Deva (0), score 2 on Yoni (Tiger and Deer) and 1.5 on Tara. Add the fixed 5 and the total is 8.5. The ceiling is the opposite case, shown in the worked example: two Tiger stars of the same Gana and different Nadi.

A sixteen-point spread means that "Libra and Scorpio" by itself says very little. The nakshatra calculator finds the star from a birth time, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains why matching needs both layers.

Worked example: Libra 1 degree with Scorpio 1 degree

A Libra Moon at 1 degree is in Chitra; a Scorpio Moon at 1 degree is in the Scorpio pada of Vishakha. Libra entered first:

KootaScoreOut ofWhat decided it
Varna11Sign: first value not lower

Total24.536
ashtakoot() for Libra 1 deg with Scorpio 1 deg (engine-facts.mjs, run 2026-10-14). Scorpio first: 23.5.

This is the best a Libra-Scorpio pairing does in the engine: 24.5, the maximum of the range. Yoni, Gana and Nadi are all full. On Tara, Chitra to Vishakha counts 3 inclusively - an unfavourable remainder - while Vishakha back to Chitra counts 26, remainder 8, which passes, so Tara is 1.5. What keeps the total in the mid-twenties is the sign side: no Bhakoot and only 5 of 15 sign points.

Contrast the floor pairing. Move the Scorpio Moon a few degrees on, into Anuradha, and keep the Libra Moon in Chitra: Gana flips to a Deva-Rakshasa 0, Nadi becomes a shared Madhya 0, and Yoni falls to 2. Sixteen points vanish without either Moon leaving its sign.

What the classical texts say

The library's classical books describe Tula and Vrischik and give the natural relationships behind Graha Maitri. None contains Ashtakoot: BPHS, Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras and Advanced Predictive Astrology were searched for bhakoot, koota, kuta, nadi, gana and yoni without finding a matching rule, and none discusses a Libra Moon with a Scorpio Moon. The Bhakoot and Graha Maitri values used here come from web references named in the engine.

What a score does not tell you

Neither 8.5 nor 24.5 is a verdict on two people, and this app does not give one. The number records how two Moon positions meet a traditional scheme. Because Mars rules Scorpio, readers often ask about Mars here; Mars placement is a separate check explained in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not, unrelated to the Moon sign. Nadi dosha explains a same-Nadi zero; the love compatibility calculator gives a lighter comparison.

What is the Guna Milan score for a Libra Moon and a Scorpio Moon?
From 8.5 to 24.5 out of 36 with Libra entered first (median 18), and 7.5 to 23.5 with Scorpio first (median 17), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
Are Venus and Mars enemies?
Not in the engine's table from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55. Each is neutral to the other, which scores 3 of 5 on Graha Maitri.
Why is Bhakoot 0?
The signs are next to each other: 2 and 12 apart. The engine scores 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 as 0, following two published references.
Why does Gana never score 3 for this pair?
All six stars involved are either Deva or Rakshasa in the engine's list. The middle value needs a Manushya star.
Does entry order matter?
Yes, by one point, through Varna. For the full picture enter both birth details in the match tool.
