In short

Two Libra Moons score between 20 and 34.5 out of 36 in this app, with a median of 28, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings. Varna, Vashya, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot are full at 15; the spread comes from Gana, which is all-or-nothing here, and from Nadi, which Swati and Vishakha share.

Two Moons in Libra share a sign, a lord and a Vashya group, so the sign half of Guna Milan is complete before anyone looks at a nakshatra. What makes the Libra-Libra case worth a page of its own is the nakshatra half. Libra's three stars split cleanly on two of the big kootas, and that split produces a range from 20 up to 34.5 - a near-maximum that few sign pairs can reach at all.

The sign is described at Libra, Tula rashi. The nakshatra matching guide is the hub for all 78 Moon-sign pairs, and the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.

Tula in BPHS

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 15-16.5 describes Tula as "a Seershodaya Rasi, rising with its head", strong in daytime, "predominant with Rajo-Gun", related to the western direction, a biped of medium build, with Shukr (Venus) as its lord. Sl. 5-5.5 groups it with Mithun and Kumbh as the mixed signs. Those are the sign's traits in the text; the engine uses only its lord and its Varna and Vashya classifications.

A Libra Moon is in one of nine padas: the last two of Chitra, the four of Swati, or the first three of Vishakha. Pair every one with every other and you get the 81 combinations scored below. Because the sign is shared, the Bhakoot count is 1 in both directions.

The kootas this sign pair fixes: all 15 points

KootaOut ofLibra with LibraWhy
Varna11Identical class value, so order cannot matter
Vashya22Same group
Graha Maitri55Venus rules both Moon signs
Bhakoot77Distance 1/1 is not a failing distance

Each of these is a direct consequence of sharing a sign. The engine scores Graha Maitri 5 whenever the two lords are the same graha. Bhakoot fails only at 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 - a rule it takes from two agreeing web references, since no book in this library contains one - so 1/1 keeps 7. Varna compares the first person's class value with the second's, which can make entry order matter for mixed pairs; with identical values it is 1 either way, and the scratch run confirmed the same totals in both orders. Varna is only the koota's technical name.

The kootas the nakshatras decide

Libra's stars sort neatly. In the engine's tables Chitra is Madhya in Nadi, Rakshasa in Gana and the Tiger in Yoni. Swati is Antya, Deva and the Buffalo. Vishakha is Antya, Rakshasa and the Tiger. So Chitra and Vishakha agree on Gana and Yoni but differ on Nadi, while Swati and Vishakha agree on Nadi but differ on Gana and Yoni. That pattern explains almost everything about this pair.

Gana is all or nothing. Two Rakshasa stars or two Deva stars score 6; a Deva star with a Rakshasa star scores 0. There is no Manushya star in Libra, so the middle value of 3 never occurs - 6 in 41 pairings, 0 in 40. Yoni follows the same split, 4 in 41 and 2 in 40, since a Tiger meeting a Buffalo is neither a match nor an enemy pair.

Nadi is 0 whenever both Moons are in the Antya stars (Swati or Vishakha, seven padas on each side) or both in Chitra. That is 53 of the 81 pairings; the 28 that score 8 all involve exactly one Chitra Moon. Tara gives 3 in 69 pairings and 1.5 in 12.

The range of totals for two Libra Moons

The engine's totals run from 20 to 34.5 out of 36, median 28. The two ends can be traced to specific star pairs. The ceiling of 34.5 is a Chitra Moon with a Vishakha Moon: both Rakshasa, both Tiger, different Nadi, with only Tara (1.5) short of full. The floor of 20 is a Swati Moon with a Vishakha Moon: they share the Antya Nadi, clash on Gana, and score 2 on Yoni, so even a full Tara and the fixed 15 only reach 20.

Tara explains the half-point at the top. The engine counts from one birth star to the other inclusively, in both directions, and treats a count with remainder 3, 5 or 7 after division by 9 as unfavourable. Chitra to Vishakha is a count of 3, so one direction fails, and Tara is 1.5 for that pair of stars. That one combination accounts for all 12 pairings where Tara drops below 3: Chitra's two padas against Vishakha's three, in either position. Every other combination of Libra stars - including the same star twice, or Swati with either neighbour - passes both ways.

Swati, the only Deva star in the sign, is the pivot of the Gana result. Two Swati Moons score Gana 6 and Yoni 4 together, but share the Antya Nadi; a Swati Moon with a Chitra Moon gets Nadi 8 but loses Gana entirely. So a Swati Moon trades one big koota for another depending on its partner, and it never reaches the top of the range. Worked through from the engine's tables, a Swati Moon totals 28 against another Swati Moon (Nadi lost) and 28 against a Chitra Moon (Gana lost), and falls to the floor of 20 against a Vishakha Moon, where Nadi and Gana are both lost at once.

There is a lesson in that. Vishakha appears at both ends - which end depends entirely on the other Moon. A Vishakha Moon is neither a "good" nor a "bad" placement for a Libra-Libra match; it is a placement whose score depends on its partner's star. That is true of every nakshatra, and it is why the sign alone cannot answer the question.

Finding your star needs a birth time; the nakshatra calculator does it. Moon sign and nakshatra explains how the 27 stars sit across the 12 signs.

Worked example: Libra 1 degree with Libra 1 degree

Both Moons at 1 degree of Libra are in Chitra - the same star and the same pada. ashtakoot() returns:

Seven kootas full, one empty. That shape - everything except Nadi - is what happens whenever two Moons share a star, because a star has exactly one Nadi. The engine records it as "traditionally flagged; worth discussing openly" and leaves the matter there. The total equals the median for two Libra Moons.

Some practitioners make exceptions for a shared star or sign. No such exception is in the books in this library or in the engine, so this page does not apply one. Nadi dosha explains the zero in more detail.

What the classical texts say

BPHS describes Tula and lists the natural relationships the engine uses. It does not contain the Ashtakoot system, and neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology; a search for bhakoot, koota, kuta, nadi, gana and yoni turns up no matching rule. Nothing in the corpus addresses two Libra Moons. The engine's matching rules are its own implementation of common practice, with its web sources named in the code.

What a score does not tell you

Even 34.5 is not a guarantee, and 20 is not a warning. The total describes how two Moon positions fit a traditional scheme; it does not describe either person and this app does not convert it into advice about marriage. Mars placement is a separate traditional check, discussed in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not. For a lighter comparison, see the love compatibility calculator.

What is the Guna Milan score for two Libra Moons?
From 20 to 34.5 out of 36, median 28, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app. The sign kootas give the full 15 every time.
Why is Gana either 0 or 6, never 3?
Libra's stars are Rakshasa (Chitra, Vishakha) or Deva (Swati) in the engine's Gana list, with no Manushya star. Same gana scores 6, Deva with Rakshasa scores 0, and the in-between 3 needs a Manushya star.
Which pairing scores highest?
A Chitra Moon with a Vishakha Moon, at 34.5: same Gana, same Yoni animal, different Nadi. Only Tara falls short of full.
Does it matter who is entered first?
No. Both Moons have the same Varna value, so the one order-sensitive koota scores 1 either way.
How do we find our actual score?
Enter both birth details in the match tool. For two Libra Moons the stars decide between 20 and 34.5.
