In short
A Taurus Moon with a Leo Moon scores between 15.5 and 28 out of 36 across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app, median 20.5, with Taurus entered first; Leo first lowers each pairing by one Varna point. Venus and the Sun count each other as enemies, so Graha Maitri is 0, but the 4/10 distance keeps the full 7 for Bhakoot.
Taurus and Leo belong to a small group of sign pairs whose lords are each other's natural enemies; Leo with Libra, Capricorn or Aquarius are the others, all involving the Sun. Venus counts the Sun as an enemy and the Sun returns the favour. In Guna Milan that makes Graha Maitri, the koota built on lordship, a flat 0. It is worth knowing that this zero is new: until October 2026 the engine gave an enemy-enemy pair 1. And it is worth knowing that the rest of the sign half is fairly strong, so the pair's total is decided, as usual, by the stars.
The signs are covered on Taurus, Vrishabha rashi and Leo, Simha rashi. The nakshatra matching hub explains each koota and links all 78 sign pairs; the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.
Vrishabh and Simh: two fixed quadrupeds
BPHS Ch. 4 gives these signs more in common than their lords' relationship would suggest. Both are fixed (Sl. 5-5.5) and both are quadrupeds. Vrishabh (Sl. 8) is white in complexion; Simh (Sl. 12) has "a large, white body". They part ways elsewhere: Vrishabh is earthy, strong at night, of the South, ruled by Shukr and associated with villages and businessmen, while Simh is ruled by Surya, Sattvic, "a royal Rasi", strong by day, of the East and of forests. The engine draws its Varna values from exactly these descriptions.
A Taurus Moon falls in Krittika padas 2-4, Rohini or Mrigashira padas 1-2. A Leo Moon falls in Magha, Purva Phalguni or Uttara Phalguni pada 1. That is 81 pairings.
Which kootas the signs fix, and the score
| Koota | Out of | Reads | Taurus first, Leo second | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | Sign | 1 (0 if Leo is first) | Vaishya and Kshatriya values compared in entry order |
| Vashya | 2 | Sign | 1 | Adjacent Vashya groups |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | Sign | 0 | Venus and the Sun are mutual enemies |
| Bhakoot | 7 | Sign | 7 | 4/10 is not a penalised distance |
| Tara | 3 | Nakshatra | 1.5 or 3 | Depends on the two birth stars |
| Yoni | 4 | Nakshatra | 2 | The same in all 81 pairings |
| Gana | 6 | Nakshatra | 0, 3 or 6 | Depends on the two birth stars |
| Nadi | 8 | Nakshatra | 0 or 8 | Depends on the two birth stars |
The signs fix 9 of 15 points with Taurus first, 8 with Leo first. Over the 81 pairings the total is 15.5 to 28 out of 36 (median 20.5) in the first order and 14.5 to 27 (median 19.5) in the second. The 12.5-point spread is wide, and the median sits much nearer the bottom than the top, which says that most combinations lose at least one of the heavy nakshatra kootas.
Graha Maitri: mutual enemies
The engine's lists, following BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, give the Sun two enemies, Saturn and Venus, and give Venus two, the Sun and the Moon. Each lord sees the other as an enemy. The Graha Maitri value for an enemy-enemy pair was lowered from 1 to 0 in October 2026, when the four references the engine consulted turned out to agree on 0. Of all the changes recorded in the engine's header, this is the one that touches this pair: every Taurus-Leo pairing lost a point.
Bhakoot: the square
Leo is the 4th sign from Taurus counted inclusively, and Taurus the 10th from Leo. The engine's Bhakoot rule penalises only 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8, so all 81 pairings keep 7. The rule comes from two web references named in the engine; the books in this library have no Bhakoot rule.
Varna and Vashya
The engine reads BPHS's "villages and businessmen" as Vaishya for Vrishabh and "a royal Rasi" as Kshatriya for Simh. Its Varna rule gives the point when the first entry's class value is at least the second's, and in the engine's numbering the Vaishya value is the higher, so Taurus first scores 1 and Leo first 0. The header calls the order dependence unresolved. Varna is used as a koota name only. Vashya puts Leo alone in its own group, next to the one holding Taurus, for 1 of 2.
What the nakshatras add
The Yoni koota is fixed at 2: Magha and Purva Phalguni are Rats and Uttara Phalguni a Cow in the engine's table, and none matches or opposes the Sheep and Serpents of the Taurus stars. The variation comes from Tara, Gana and Nadi.
The Nadi groups explain the low median. Krittika and Rohini are both Antya, and so is Magha, which covers the first 13 degrees and 20 minutes of Leo. Any pairing of those loses 8. Mrigashira (Madhya) loses Nadi against Purva Phalguni (Madhya). On the Gana side, Krittika and Magha are both Rakshasa, so that pairing scores a full 6 in Gana while losing Nadi, as the worked example below shows. These labels are categories for stars and say nothing about people.
At pada midpoints, the engine's lowest pairing is a Taurus Moon in Rohini (about 11 degrees) with a Leo Moon in Magha (about 1 degree), 15.5: Gana 3, Nadi 0. The highest is a Taurus Moon in Rohini (about 21 degrees) with a Leo Moon in Uttara Phalguni (about 28 degrees), 28: Tara 3, Gana 6, Nadi 8. The same Taurus star sits at both ends; only the Leo star differs.
The nakshatra calculator gives the exact star from a birth time; Moon sign and nakshatra explains the two layers.
Worked example: Taurus 1 degree with Leo 1 degree
At 1 degree of Taurus the Moon is in Krittika, second pada. At 1 degree of Leo it is in Magha, first pada. With Taurus entered first:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: Vaishya first, Kshatriya second |
| Vashya | 1 | 2 | Sign: adjacent groups |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: favourable one way |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Sheep and Rat |
| Graha Maitri | 0 | 5 | Sign: Venus and Sun, mutual enemies |
| Gana | 6 | 6 | Nakshatra: both Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | Sign: 4/10 distance |
| Nadi | 0 | 8 | Nakshatra: both Antya |
| Total | 18.5 | 36 |
Two empty rows, Graha Maitri and Nadi, cost 13 points; two full ones, Gana and Bhakoot, supply 13. The total of 18.5 is two points below the median. The Gana row deserves a note: two Rakshasa stars score the full 6, because the engine rewards matching Ganas whatever they are. The label is not a penalty in itself.
It is also a useful example of how the order effect and the October 2026 changes interact. Entered Leo first, the same two Moons score 17.5. Under the engine's rules before October 2026, when an enemy-enemy Graha Maitri still scored 1, each figure would have been one point higher. So the same couple could, depending on order and on when they checked, have seen 17.5, 18.5 or 19.5 for identical birth data. That spread is a property of the rule set, not of the people, and it is one more reason to read every row rather than the total alone.
An 18.5 describes two Moon placements under one rule set and nothing more. It is not a judgement on a couple, and this app offers no remedies for any koota. Nadi dosha explains the Nadi 0 calmly; Mangal dosha: what it is and is not covers the separate Mars check.
What the texts say about Taurus and Leo
BPHS describes Vrishabh and Simh and records the enmity of Venus and the Sun. It does not contain Ashtakoot, and neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology in this library. None of them comments on the pair as a match. The scoring is the engine's, from a rule set whose web sources it names.

- What do Taurus and Leo Moons score in Guna Milan?
- From 15.5 to 28 out of 36 with Taurus entered first (median 20.5) and from 14.5 to 27 with Leo first (median 19.5), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
- Why is Graha Maitri 0?
- Venus and the Sun list each other as natural enemies in BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 as the engine uses it. An enemy-enemy pair scores 0; it scored 1 before October 2026.
- Is Yoni the same for every Taurus-Leo pairing?
- Yes, 2 of 4. No Taurus star shares an animal with a Leo star, and none of their animals are listed as enemies.
- How do I see our real score?
- Gana, Tara and Nadi need the exact nakshatras. The match tool computes them from birth details.
- Do enemy sign lords doom a match?
- No. Graha Maitri is one koota worth 5 of 36 points, applied to two Moon signs. This app does not give a verdict on whether two people should marry.
